Great video! FYI Instead of using a wood plug, cover the end with plastic wrap and cover with masking tape. Then pour 1.5-2 oz of food grade epoxy into the base while it is sitting flat on a table. let it set, pull off the plastic wrap and your done! You can also coat the inside of the horn with the epoxy if you want to use it for hot liquids. Beeswax doesn't taste good with coffee!
While I was in Belize in '92, I saw an old man sitting on the ground next to a fire. The fire was about 2 feet from the highway into Belize City just outside of Ladyville. A couple days later he was there again and and there were several people around him. I finally stopped to see what he was doing. He had a big pile of horns and was making all sorts of crafts. He made dolphins, sharks, birds, and boats. He would put his hand in the horn and put the horn in the fire; he said once his hand got hot, he horn was hot enough to bend. His palms were like elephant skin. He would bend and twist the horns into the most amazing crafts.
Almost done with my Viking Horn Cup and a holder for it to sit nicely on a table. I am using food grade epoxy though for mine. Maybe next horn I purchase I might try the mug. Of course that would mean buying a heat gun since I don’t have that at the moment either.
Honestly though that was going to be way harder but it looked simpleish to do, loved how you made the horn into the handle as well, the whole piece is stunning
I love that your videos always inspire me to get all kinds of dungeon crafty! Also, love the nails! A good way for a druid or rogue to keep their spells handy 😉
@skill tree I just did a build inspired by your beer stein. It came out great. I'm now addicted to your Channel... I'm working on building the leather tunic/ clothes that you did for your Druid, and the Assassins cloak. Congrats. You've broken me. :)
1. I love the energy you exude, and the obvious love you have for what you do. 2. I would love to exchange some ideas and techniques sometime, if you find yourself with the free time. 3. You're exactly my type of people. I'd love to do some adventuring together sometime.
@@SkillTree yup, like wearing eye protection while grinding on a horn, am I right? Edit: Sorry, I just saw you taking off your safety glasses... Maybe something a little closer-fitting next time?
@@SkillTree trust me. If I wasn't working, I would be in my basement cutting leather, burning wood, putting together chainmail, and drinking out of an epic horn lol
I'd love to make one of these, but if I acquired another horn mug my wife would strangle me to death. Then she'd give me cpr so that she could strangle me to death once again. Groenfell meadery (probably spelled incorrectly) has some amazing meads. I normally get Dansk Mjød because it's more accessible to me. Their Viking Blod is amazing and Odin's Skull is great for the holidays because it's very festive tasting. Sour apple juice, hops, and cinnamon.
Ok, is it a bad thing that I knew that was Chaucers Mead without seeing the label? It is my favorite brand when I'm in the mood for a nice clean, not too syrupy mead. 😊
So I bought a horn mug at the PA Ren Faire last year. It supposedly has some food safe resin inside. It started leaking at the bottom a couple weeks back and the sellers could only tell me food grade resin was used. I sealed my daughters copper mug (which might be some small planter actually she got at a thrift store) with our own beeswax (I'm a hobbyist beekeeper) Do you know much about sealing these mugs with food safe resins? I figure if I melt beeswax inside it'll never take the resin after but the seller can't tell me what resin was used. Thoughts?

I looked this up for you. It seems that it is possible to use water but you need to let it boil for several hours. Another way is to put it in the oven, or so I have read.
Towel and put it in the oven just dont turn it on and let it dry for about an hour I know it's been 4 months since you asked this and your probably done but if you do it again theres a good way or you could put it in your backyard for an hour or so (should also work with just a towel)👍

I’ve got a request for you, either the holy grail, or Indiana’ Jones’ journal
Both FANTASTIC! The journal is such a "prop maker's right of passage". Every one I have seen has so much detail and care.

Nicely done Sir!

Now only if that was Mead you made yourself

Don't use bread yeast. All you get is small beer. Get wine yeast from Amazon or somesuch. Otherwise, its remarkably easy for a beginner.
How long has it been on the list sir? I will continue until there is a check mark next to that one on the list
What do you think i can make the " handle making process " if i boiling it up the horn in water ?
I looked this up for you. It seems that it is possible to use water but you need to let it boil for several hours. Another way is to put it in the oven, or so I have read.
So it was related to Vikings and horns after all

Where did you get that horn...
Cairan apa yang panaskan untuk membersihkan bagian dalam tanduk
I had some issues with getting the wax to be smooth inside. It would bubble up and harden, or drip and dry in drip shape. Any advice?
Sure! Your heat gun or torch can help. Just re-heat the wax a bit and let it smooth itself out😁
How are you removing the membrane , tastes pretty bad
This horn is already cleaned. They come that way from tandy leather. I have yet to do a full cleaning myself. Maybe next horn vid?
