If you cant definitively defeat the champion in a masterclass performance, most of the time if it's a close competitive fight unfortunately the judges hand the win to the defending champion. Many robberies over the years. This is literally the first time I've seen the champion actually scrape out a close win and get robbed by decision. 😂

I really appreciated the great sportsmanship between the two fighters. I think they both handled the outcome with class, and I really respect Sean for how he is dealing with the loss - I’m confident he’ll come back very soon in the title contention

Damn Dricus face is rearranged. Good fight by Dricus he made adjustments. I thought it was even on points going into the 5th round and I thought Sean won the 5th round. I thought Sean won the fight but it was a close fight so its not a robbery to say Dricus won.
Sean was the champion though. Usually you have to CLEARLY win a decision against the champ and idt he did.

I think he is kind of a jerk, but I also think he is the better fighter. Love Strickland but DDP has a lot more depth. Sean has a great defense on the feet and is hard to keep down but he just doesn't have the full skill set it takes to hold a belt.

I really hope we get to see them do a rematch! I really like both guys so I wasn’t too bothered about who won - I just wanted a good fight which we got. But in the rematch I think I’d back Sean since Dricus won the first (just to even the odds 😂)

Both men fought hard and showed great heart. DDP is champion caliber and fights like one.
For me, it's like, Strickland won, but I can't definitively say that DDP lost.
I know it doesn't make sense, but Sean doesn't deserve the loss, and DDP deserves the win, both at the same time.
I love DDP but the numbers make it very obvious. Significant strikes - Head: 157/387 for Sean and 81/283 for DDP, Body: 10/15 vs 32/37 (most were partially blocked jabs), Leg: 6/6 vs 24/34 but almost all of them were checked by Sean. DDP had less significant strikes, zero control time and less damage. Not to mention that historically the challenger has had to TAKE the belt, not barely make it through the fight while looking like a starving tribe mistook him for a pinata.
So in other words a draw?

doesnt matter brother go look at the fight by round. Strickland clearly won the 1 and 5 and the rest was up for grabs. Fights are scored per round. all the higher sig strikes came from round one and 5 and the rest was even. strickland won those rounds, those dont carry over to the other rounds. Duplessis won the rest of the fight based on take down and pressure and equal striking if sean had had more sig strikes in 2-3-4 then you may have a point @@TEAMGETHELP

Why does it matter how the face of a winner looks? Some people just show damage easier. That entire swollen eye was just from a single jab on round 1? Some people get slapped and start bleeding and swelling while other can take a kick to the face and have a light red mark. DDP won cause he took the fight to Sean, multiple takedown attempts, multiple kicks meanwhile Sean was on the backfoot the entire fight just playing the counter game. Jab move back jab move back, jab over hand move back. DDP went in there to take it so its fair he won.@@Brad-pc3bi
I feel like Sean's cut from an elbow or whatever it was lost him the fight. He looked bad, despite not having taken much more damage than that. Meanwhile, DDP got hit dozens and dozens of times in the face, all that damage isn't from one or two good hits. I look forward to seeing some replays and the amounts of hits landed. I felt like Sean landed way more. Those head kicks from DDP were good, and he got some takedowns but he really didn't do any damage with them so I was surprised to see him win.

I honestly thought it was going to be a doctor stoppage in the 3rd or 4th round with his eye getting swollen shut. It was close to that but luckily for him he was able to do enough to not let it get to that. The takedowns had to have been what got it for him but with these close championship fights there seems to be a lot of factors that can be subject to change as well.
Strickland's jab is LETHAL bro. And he kept checking DDP's kicks, got back up after every takedown, so it was a very tough fight to call.
I think the fight could've went either way depending on what your criteria was. Either way phenomenal fight and i wouldn't mind seeing a rematch 🙌

I think for championship fights it needs to go until there's a sub/TKO or KO as many rounds as it takes , no more judges decisions , preferably also get rid of breaks in between rounds the one continuous round until it's done is the best way
