YELLOWMAN, LOUIE LEPKE, TOYAN, BILLY BOYO, JOSEY WALES, LEE VAN CLIFF AND DANNY DREAD IS THE SELECTOR ON VOLCANO SOUND
Volcano Hi-Power Sound System belonged to music lover, producer, and drug kingpin Henry “Junjo” Lawes, who was shot dead in London in 1999. He single-handedly launched the dancehall style that later morphed into ragga. Teaming up with sound engineer Scientist (another unsung hero), he had the baddest tunes, and the baddest singers, from Barrington Levy to Yellowman to Toyan…
In 1983 Junjo Lawes formed the Sound System Volcano that came to be one of the legendary dance hall sounds in Jamaica. Resident deejays where Buro, Shadowman, Toyan, El Fego Barker. The selector was Danny Dread.
Volcano also was also the name of Junjos label on which he released his own productions. The label was based in Myrie Avenue, Kingston 11. Cocoa Tea, Frankie Paul, Yellowman and many other artists have released on Volcano.
In the early 80's Tero Kaski and Pekka Vuorinnen visited Jamaica to write a book about Junjo and the deejays of the sound. This was published in 1984 as »Reggae Inna Dance Hall Style« (Black Star).

The year is 1984 was only 18 Didn't have children young free and single I am in my early 50s today I wish I had a time machine to take my children back to that time to show them how nice the world was look at it today so much changes those days will never return ever

The birthplace of hip hop is in Jamaica
It's difficult to say, IMHO, and depends on how far you want to go back; FWIW I think you're right, though people far more knowledgeable than I am have traced its heritage back to Africa. As far as I know, toasting is of Jamaican origin, and that counts for a lot. Offhand, if I had to pick a single point of origin, it would be the innovation of Count Matchuki. He's the one, followed closely by King Stitt and U-Roy.
The earliest recording I've heard of something resembling a rap _battle_ is Trinidadian (Calypso) from the 1950s (Picong Duel, Lord Melody/Mighty Sparrow). If you haven't heard that before, I linked to it in this post. Listen to it and you'll quickly see what I'm talking about. As you listen, keep in mind that they didn't write this in advance of the recorded performance. These lyrics are entirely extemporaneous. The whole thing is them insulting each other. Incidentally, they were good friends. This was the art form.
Lord Melody:
You know that I'll be proud and glad
If Sampson and Delilah come back to Trinidad
But when they come, I wouldn't go in the theatre
Because look the jawbone of the ass right here!
Mighty Sparrow:
Well, ladies and gents, to tell you this I'm sure
When the circus was here they had a big uproar
Walking hand in hand, the female chimpanzee
Take Mello for she man!

Thank you many blessings.
Classic 'rub-a-dub' dancehall. Sadly alot of these guys died at the hand of gun violence in politically/socially turbulent jamacia of the 70s/80s. Lepke, Toyan, Lee Van - all shot dead.
Thomas Tucker Not so true. Lee Van Cliff get kill in Vanderveer Projects and Louie Lepki died in the 90’s Area not through politics either. Toyan died in Jamaica when he returned for his own Tool if ya know wi mi meen. R.I.P. Byron(Toyan)
