This movie was genuinely the best theater experience I've ever had. From the theater singing Lets Go Rider Kick and people wanting to take a picture with my budget cosplay, I had a smile the whole time.
My experience was a little strange. So before the film played, they we’re playing some ads. That went on for 50 minutes (me some fellow fans were just discussing kamen rider that that point), and once that was done, they accidentally played the new fast and furious movie, and everyone collectively went to the front desk area to tell them about it. It was pretty funny. After they fixed it, everyone was having a blast. At the end, we all got up and clapped.
Man. Anno absolutely cooked up some five star cuisine with this film. Beautifully combined elements from the show and Ishinomori's manga with his own twist. God I need the Blu-ray soon.
I convinced my dad to watch this movie even though he never watched Kamen rider or anything that’s in Japanese and after the movie he was genuinely surprised and gave the movie an 8/10 while I gave the movie a 9/10 it’s a great movie I love how they took most of the inspiration from the manga and I can’t wait for the next shin Kamen Rider movie
I really liked how we were given breadcrumbs about Ruriko's situation over the course of the film and learning about how isolated she felt. She desperately wanted that sense of family that her brother and father lost and she never got to experience. She gave the Rider's their scarves because it was iconography for an ideal she wanted to achieve; clinging to the family that gives joy and not working to destroy the humanity that causes pain. She adopted the riders when she did this. Even though it was condensed for time, I really liked when Ichimonji and Hongo fought as the Double Riders. Ichimonji got Hongo to loosen up and work together, while at the same time Ichimonji took Hongo's lead in showing respect for killing the Shocker Riders. I thought that Shin Ultraman felt like a miniseries condensed into a movie, and Shin Kamen Rider feels the same way in a lot of respects, but I think it flows more naturally than the last Shin film because the focus felt more subtle in terms of how the characters developed.
Kamen rider fan here: this was the HYPEST theater experience i ever had, hideki anno really snapped when he directed this, the whole cast did, like i thought Shin Ultraman was good but MAN!
What makes Shin Kamen Rider Epic it doesn't literally reboot the whole thing it literally makes things modern and very much appeal to veteran fans, the story is as same as the original but makes it interesting for the viewers to watch. The movie is very much a Love Letter to Shotaro Ishinomori(Rip) and also the fans of the original series as well. And the movie took a lot of inspiration from the Manga and the Show itself. This is what a close to the Source to the movie itself and Hollywood just failed to understand.
Love the idea that they explain 1 and 2 are solitary grasshopper while the shocker riders are swarm of locusts that act like a hive mind, man never thought of that

These shin Hero films really encapsulate what is so great about Tokusatsu Heroes. The ability to have a great story, meaningful characters, and some darker edgier plots WHILE STILL Having an important meaning to it all.
Shin Kamen Rider is my favorite film out of the Shin trilogy But man I wished Hongo lived in the end, I wanna see more of both riders together. Not just fighting and posing, but also bonding, to see how their friendship goes
To make you feel better, Hongo may return in potential sequel 仮面の世界(Masked World) if Toei allowed it Because the plot will based on Ishinomori sensei'manga last chapter arc with the same name, and in the end of the chapter, Hongo come back as a Cyborg

Because in the manga, the last boss is literally the supercomputer itself. And since they already namedropped Professor Shinigami as the creator of KK aug, they can also use him as a plot to revive Hongo
While I don't think it was intended as so, a man fighting a cult while struggling not to kill has a huge resonance with modern day Japan, considering Shinzo Abe, a former prime minister, was assassinated because of his alleged ties to a cult (Unification Church).
The thing I love when Kamen rider goes mature is that it has no problem showing that Kamen riders are living WMD’s in comparison to regular squishy humans. Seriously the weakest Kamen rider can punch in around the tons

There wee a lot of neat references to other Ishinimori works that were subtle and non-obtrusive. Particularly K being a reference to Detective K, their predecessor having the asymmetrical design of Kikaider, and Kamen Rider 0 sharing design influences with Inazuman.
The movie was amazing! I'm honestly glad that I could have seen it on the silver screen first before the tiny screen I'm using to type this comment. And seeing so many people dress up, or just bring any KR merch in general, on social media was awesome! Somebody dressed up as Ichigo at the the theater I attended and it just made my day even better! I hope a physical release is soon cause I want nothing more than to have a copy on my shelf and remember the amazing experience I had when I saw it in theaters! If anyone here hasn't seen the movie yet, I implore you to watch it soon! It still has two more screening dates. The 2nd and 5th of this month, do it soon! You will not regret it!
I have never seen a single episode of KR except a few random episodes of KR Build and this movie slapped me in the face in the best way possible. I could feel the passion oozing out of every single scene.
I loved Shin Godzilla, LOVED Shin Ultraman, and decided Shin Kamen rider should be my first experience. I liked it but I definitely know how my friends feel when I show them Shin Ultraman 😂
There were a few dudes with Drivers when I went. Neo Decadriver with Complete 21, Demons Driver, Ohma Driver, someone had a Rolling Vistamp...it was great.
For those who wants to view Shin Rider again/can't view it in your country, Shin Kamen Rider will be screening in Hong Kong from 22nd to 25th June, you may consider take a trip to Hong Kong to watch it (And don't worries about the seat-a lot of chair in stock, because the criticism from Taiwan/HK/China to this film was bad...... :/ Let me enjoy it)
My theater was packed I think there was only 2 open seats plus the audience ranged alot I saw an older couple with white hair, kids, teenagers, and tons of other different types
Japan will never beat hollywood in term of fantastic movie budget, so in exchange imo japan movie industry should made a better plot and story than hollywood. Unfortunately, not every live action japan perform a better plot and story, Mostly was bad imo ( Especially that attack on titan live action 😅)

Copy and pasted my thoughts from Reddit: From a person who watches more than just Toku stuff and watched even more obscure cult following films, I think it was great. I don’t mind the convoluted stuff as long as it’s done right like a Gaspar Noe or a Lynch film. But it’s hard to recommend the movie for a general audience without prior knowledge to Rider lore. I do appreciate the fact Anno doesn’t dumb stuff down and not holding the masses hands. It definitely is a thought provoking movie since you have to actually pay attention otherwise you’re screwed if you missed one line like a Nolan movie. It wasn’t difficult for me to follow but I can see why it can be a turn off for some folks including the ones that want the reiwa tone and such. Shin Goji is still the best for the general audience but In the end overall, I think this is by far the definition of what a “rider” hero should be by Ishinomori intent especially if you compare it with the manga. The pacing felt fast to me but then again I did mention Lynch so I can handle slooooww burn films lol. For me the Fan boi score is a 9/10 and a general audience score is a 8 or 7/10. The reason why it lost a point on the fan boi section is cause of the scorpion…after reading the prequel manga it was disappointing for her arc. P.S - do read the original manga and Shin Kamen Rider Shocker prequel manga so it’ll help enhance the experience(optional of course). It’s funny too how folks complain about darkness and the shaky cam, I can tell you now they’re way better than the majority of budget horror/martial arts films I’ve seen lol
I'm so happy to see Shin Kamen Rider receiving so much love and affection from the West. T_T Growing up, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai got me into superheroes before I was introduced to Marvel/DC Comics. And the team behind this film!! Ugh, it was done beautifully. Loved the theater experience of Shin Kamen Rider.
Yeah the ending bit with Hongo's soul/subconscious being bonded to Ichimonji is mostly from the 70s Kamen Rider manga along a few other things like the manga having 13 Shocker Riders instead of the 8 Shocker Riders like in the original show

I’m overall mixed on the film. And I’ve noticed other rider fans are too. The fast paced first half and a lot of telling instead of showing being the biggest contributors.
I saw this movie with my mom in theaters... and it was a fucking BLAST. She doesn't get to watch too much toku with me, just because of Toei's lack of distribution... but hopefully this? This might change things.
I went to see the one night screening of Shin Kamen Rider and it was great! I also met not one, but TWO trans girls there. One of them wore a Kamen Rider belt! Its great to meet other trans people like me who are fans of tokusatsu.

For some reason, there are actually mixed opinions about Shin Kamen Rider. Honestly, this is one of the best movies i've ever seen. The only thing I don't really like is that some of the battles feel a bit short.
While I do have a gripe with the Shocker Rider fight being all CGI and in the dark and I wish the fight would’ve been practical with suit actors and fighting somewhere else but the tunnel (I know there’s a deleted scene of that,but it was a deleted scene so….), I love this movie since I am already an old school Kamen Rider fan. I love the new ideas and stuff like Hongo having a traumatic experience of the death of his father or the origin of him and Hayato wearing a scarf being Ruriko giving them those to look more heroic. I did rlly like the suit redesigns for the First and Next movies in the early 2000s but I gotta say I love this movie version’s suits even more bc somehow they managed to remain faithful to the original design with minor modifications and the right amount of added details.
My father grew up on Kamen Rider and Ultraman as a kid in Thailand. He introduced them to me when I was a kid and I've been hooked on it, and Tokusatsu in general, since. Though naturally it's kind of sad living in the US, given it's clearly not popular over here compared to Godzilla and Super Sentai (Power Rangers) all because they failed to kick off. But hey given how Power Rangers is going. Maybe that's for the best. Lol if we had more shows like Saban's Masked Rider. I'd die inside.
I haven’t really enjoyed any of the Reiwa riders with the exception of Saber + They’re starting to fall into some really same-y and predictable trends and they’re just boring + Rintaro/Blades is Reiwa’s Only Good Secondary Rider + I cared about Rintaro more regardless of stuff then the other 3 (Fuwa Dead、Poor Daiji、Keiwa Piece of Shit).
I was personally disappointed in this movie, but I liked the first half of it A LOT. Too much exposition with an emphasis on telling and not showing. The snapcuts made the movie seem chaotic, and the last fight scene was wholly unsatisfying with a villain that felt like he came out of nowhere. I'm glad this will give new fans an entry point, but this movie is a 5/10.

I thought the movie was pretty good my one issue was that I kept getting lost with the pacing of it until the ending where I realized they were remakes of different episodes of the original show complicated into a movie
I'm close to seeing it, but it just doesnt appear in the nearest cinema, but at the farthest cinema, same country, but like sooo far and also doesnt get on the nighttime, but goddamn lunchtime I hate that they restrict a movie to another part of my country even though they teased the movie in the nearest cinema too
I went to the theatre to see this. I enjoyed it, but I was very disappointed by it. The whole movie felt very rushed, and the tone was all over the place. I feel like The First is a much better movie.
Hah, the first has a stupid plot about a love triangle i could care less, and the action is the only thing going for it, to be honest it ruined what the originals is all about, and i hatw the ichimonji on that movie a revived dead fiance turned brainless horn dog ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The First and The Next for that matter change a lot of things for the sake of changing things. I'd say Shin is a far better representation of the original series. However, the pacing in Shin was a mess, the story was a mess, and the action scenes were a mess. The First was a better movie, just maybe not completely accurate to the source material (on purpose).
I also love the movie so much especially the confusing plots yes even if it is confusing its fun as hell and I get why so many people hate the movie (me personally those instant timeskips out of nowhere but it's 50/50 for me) and instantly blame it on hideaki ano's EVA story plot but again this is a reboot story just because this is almost as the same as the original doesnt mean it has be the same at all.

I'm so happy to see Shin Kamen Rider receiving so much love and affection from the West. T_T Growing up, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai got me into superheroes before I was introduced to Marvel/DC Comics. And the team behind this film!! Ugh, it was done beautifully. Loved the theater experience of Shin Kamen Rider.

Yeah the ending bit with Hongo's soul/subconscious being bonded to Ichimonji is mostly from the 70s Kamen Rider manga along a few other things like the manga having 13 Shocker Riders instead of the 8 Shocker Riders like in the original show

I’m overall mixed on the film. And I’ve noticed other rider fans are too. The fast paced first half and a lot of telling instead of showing being the biggest contributors.
Every other review ive seen has been negative for this movie honestly, I enjoyed my time with it. It is really fast paced though.

I saw this movie with my mom in theaters... and it was a fucking BLAST. She doesn't get to watch too much toku with me, just because of Toei's lack of distribution... but hopefully this? This might change things.
I went to see the one night screening of Shin Kamen Rider and it was great! I also met not one, but TWO trans girls there. One of them wore a Kamen Rider belt! Its great to meet other trans people like me who are fans of tokusatsu.

For some reason, there are actually mixed opinions about Shin Kamen Rider.
Honestly, this is one of the best movies i've ever seen. The only thing I don't really like is that some of the battles feel a bit short.
My only complaint is that the scorpion and the chameleon augments didn’t have enough screen time. That kinda made me sad.
I liked how scorpion was handled i thought it was funny.

While I do have a gripe with the Shocker Rider fight being all CGI and in the dark and I wish the fight would’ve been practical with suit actors and fighting somewhere else but the tunnel (I know there’s a deleted scene of that,but it was a deleted scene so….), I love this movie since I am already an old school Kamen Rider fan. I love the new ideas and stuff like Hongo having a traumatic experience of the death of his father or the origin of him and Hayato wearing a scarf being Ruriko giving them those to look more heroic. I did rlly like the suit redesigns for the First and Next movies in the early 2000s but I gotta say I love this movie version’s suits even more bc somehow they managed to remain faithful to the original design with minor modifications and the right amount of added details.

My father grew up on Kamen Rider and Ultraman as a kid in Thailand. He introduced them to me when I was a kid and I've been hooked on it, and Tokusatsu in general, since. Though naturally it's kind of sad living in the US, given it's clearly not popular over here compared to Godzilla and Super Sentai (Power Rangers) all because they failed to kick off. But hey given how Power Rangers is going. Maybe that's for the best. Lol if we had more shows like Saban's Masked Rider. I'd die inside.
I haven’t really enjoyed any of the Reiwa riders with the exception of Saber + They’re starting to fall into some really same-y and predictable trends and they’re just boring + Rintaro/Blades is Reiwa’s Only Good Secondary Rider + I cared about Rintaro more regardless of stuff then the other 3 (Fuwa Dead、Poor Daiji、Keiwa Piece of Shit).

I was personally disappointed in this movie, but I liked the first half of it A LOT. Too much exposition with an emphasis on telling and not showing. The snapcuts made the movie seem chaotic, and the last fight scene was wholly unsatisfying with a villain that felt like he came out of nowhere.
I'm glad this will give new fans an entry point, but this movie is a 5/10.

I loved this movie even with somewhat janky cgi. The last fight had some bits that were weak af, but it was still a good watch.

I thought the movie was pretty good my one issue was that I kept getting lost with the pacing of it until the ending where I realized they were remakes of different episodes of the original show complicated into a movie

I went to the theatre to see this. I enjoyed it, but I was very disappointed by it. The whole movie felt very rushed, and the tone was all over the place. I feel like The First is a much better movie.
Hah, the first has a stupid plot about a love triangle i could care less, and the action is the only thing going for it, to be honest it ruined what the originals is all about, and i hatw the ichimonji on that movie a revived dead fiance turned brainless horn dog ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Atleast here he is the smug that i liked in the originals and it carries over on the shin movie, not to mention Better written.

The First and The Next for that matter change a lot of things for the sake of changing things. I'd say Shin is a far better representation of the original series. However, the pacing in Shin was a mess, the story was a mess, and the action scenes were a mess. The First was a better movie, just maybe not completely accurate to the source material (on purpose).
I also love the movie so much especially the confusing plots yes even if it is confusing its fun as hell and I get why so many people hate the movie (me personally those instant timeskips out of nowhere but it's 50/50 for me) and instantly blame it on hideaki ano's EVA story plot but again this is a reboot story just because this is almost as the same as the original doesnt mean it has be the same at all.

@@samuraiblack3496 that would not actually be a bad thing, its a matter of how they use it, stories like these which fall under a "truth" category don't do the intense sexualization or usage of violence as "justice" as much as more modern works do, the first one is not really bad but its used in these works in fitting contexts, the other is much more critical and so violence is never glorified. I hope you get what I mean.
