He is amazing at getting to the rim with his athleticism and dribbling ability. People say this is his only way of scoring and he's one-dimensional on offense, but if he can develop his jump-shot (which I think is underrated) he can become a big-time scorer.
Love this kids game. Great work ethic and hustle, has the intangibles which cannot be taught. His jumper might not be on point but with repetition it'll keep getting better. Watch out for him
I think hes honestly happy to be playing in the NBA and being such a high pick. Plus he'll get to know Jordan on a first name basis, and I think MJ is gonna like him because of his competitive nature and desire to win.
He is young so you might be right, but he did showcase those skills you speak of at the collegiate level, and the NBA level is a completely different animal with tons of great athletes.
Between MKG, Brad Beal, Drummond, Barnes, and Robinson, it's so tough to tell which of these guys is gonna have the most success at the next level. It seems as if the top 6 picks in the draft this year might all have really good NBA careers! (I know that won't happen though)
This guy is not a person you judge from a workout like this. You have to watch him play against other guys to appreciate how good he is. He's a guy that will have the opposing coach chewing out his player for getting outworked over...& over...& over again.
He's going to be a top 3 pick, but it would have helped him to go back to school since his game is pretty unorthodox and very raw. He's got a lot of potential though.
i completely agree, that was my point. i've just heard a lot of scouts complaining about his mechanics yet michael kidd gilchrist is projected to go higher than him
Two different players. MKG in my eyes will be really good in the NBA. He attacks the open court like no one i've ever seen and when he's in the fast break he's almost unstoppable
Though his shot does look funny, I like the consistency he shows with it. If he can get rid of that little pause at the top of his jumper and make his release a little faster, he could be a very good NBA jump shooter
his form won't change, but knowing his motor and effort and drive, even with his bad release he will probably become a pretty good shooter. shawn marion has a crazy form and does anyone remember duckworth's shot?
I agree but u also have to consider that he is tired in these workouts. Dont you see his body language after some of those shots. It takes incredible strength in order to put up 1000-2000 shots and still have a good percentage of makes
Good form, doesn't always equal being a better shooter. MKG is a baller and I'm glad we drafted him. He's the player I wanted for sure, he has a great motor and is very sound. I don't think he's a better shooter than Rivers though. His all around game is definately more established without a doubt, and that's coming from a Duke fan.
I've tried his jup shot release out before. Believe it or not, it actually helped me with my shooting game. It does has its disadvantages though, as I've been blocked multiple times using his jump shit release.
I have a feelin' this dude is gonna be a major problem in the league...he speaks through his game on the court and on his release he can tighten that up a lil and he's gonna be a star In my opinion...
no theyve actually been working out in cleveland because thats where mike wanted to work out because its close to his agent rich paul of caa sports and because it was a lowkey place to workout
start from the beggining, one hand only, 90º with your shooting arm, ASIDE from your head, not in front! When you practiced that, advance to including the other arm, start with static shots near the rim, don't even think about jumpshots until you get the technique right in static shots
Who cares about his form, as long as he can make the shot, it shouldn't matter. Anyway, this draft is looking better and better. This guys gonna be a stud
1st of all, the comparsion itself i had no problem with if you read both comments. Only quarrels i had was the thought that MKG was more athletic than CRASH. If u recall gwallace also came into the nba after 1yr of college. He performed off the charts in drills. MKG does not have near the explosion gerald had even as a rookie. He plz dont be so quick to say he has better D. but i will give u he has work ethic, but to think just cuz he works hard hes gonna gain any level of consistency with that
I just hope the Cavs don't pick him, we took a leap of faith last year and got tristan and he didn't turn out to be what we expected, hopefully we make a smart pick this time around.
I hope CLE can land em at 4, if not trade up. Only concern that everyone else has pointed out is his slow release. Fab Melo at 22 would solve two gaping holes for us
The guy's a first-rate athlete, he's fast and he's moving all the time. I don't see why he couldn't keep up with those guys. Minimum, he'll be one of the best defensive stoppers in the league. Disruptive is the word that comes to mind. He'll get tons of steals, blocks and rebounds (on both ends), and he should be a force in all aspects of the open floor game as well.
We'll if we do pick him on the Cavs, I hope he works out. if we can get another scorer to help take the load off Irving then i think we might make the playoffs next year, Remember we still have Anderson varajou who is a beast in the paint, and his motor never stops, Plus we have Tristan, Jamison, And alonzo gee who is an big upcoming player.
your dedass right.... im a kentucky fan nd when we recruited him i was wondering what made so good because he couldnt score like austin rivers but ranked above him..... but trust me all u bobcats fan once u watch him night in night out you will be in awe of this guy his motor is incredible and thats the talent these workout videos cant show you
If I was a gm I the choice would be use you draft the guy that can get easier buckets and that's MKG, it's been proven you dont have to be a dead eye shooter to get points, and that can always be developed and improved, but you can't reach a guy how to finish at the rim and run the floor.
They wont because then he will have to adjust to a new shooting form which will takes weeks to months to get right than have to get it consistent. He already shoots well now so coaches wont risk messing his mid-range game up. If he was in highschool (YES), collage (maybe) but not coming into the NBA draft.
I wonder if MKG can make the bobcats a desent team. At least u gotta good pick my team skipped Perry Jones III for a dude from Mississippi St. Hopefully he's a good addition to the team
true but he is one guy i will say that he can stay at 100% during a game. hopefully his shot will come in time. but he's a hard worker and that'll pay off big
YOur right, his shot release is way too late, but then again if that is what works for him then so be it i guess. Sometimes if you try and correct someones form when they are that old it does more harm then good
This video doesn't show his true strengths, which are his defense and motor. He's a defensive specialist and will be one of the best defenders in the league in a couple years. And he plays hard on every play. He'll be a good pick up for whoever takes him.
his speed will be his best asset, you say he may get blocked more, I think he's faster than most at his position, he may be able to adjust his mechanics after 1 season.
i think kidd-gilchrist is gonna be a hell of a nba player. no dobut he needs to improve his jumper but its not like its that bad just more consistent with it. but one thing is for sure he is gonna put in all the the work times 100 to become a better player in all areas of his game dudes work ethic is unreal for a man his age like the baylor coach said after uk beat baylor "kidd-gilchrist is a man-child"
He's right handed but he brings the ball slightly to the left and then has a bit of a "late release" which of course one in the NBA teams can work on it haha
@cityleaguehoopsTv was this workout in New York at one of Jerry Powell's gyms? A lot of people feel he is the best trainer around that no one knows of.
You laugh at his jump shot. He laughs at your bank account.
you poor bro
He is amazing at getting to the rim with his athleticism and dribbling ability. People say this is his only way of scoring and he's one-dimensional on offense, but if he can develop his jump-shot (which I think is underrated) he can become a big-time scorer.
He has great skill too, especially on defense. He's also incredibly athletic. A great presence in the locker room.
He double pumps on his shot like bill cartwright
Love this kids game. Great work ethic and hustle, has the intangibles which cannot be taught. His jumper might not be on point but with repetition it'll keep getting better. Watch out for him
I think hes honestly happy to be playing in the NBA and being such a high pick. Plus he'll get to know Jordan on a first name basis, and I think MJ is gonna like him because of his competitive nature and desire to win.
He is hard working, high character kid and he will be great at the next level.
ever since high school i always said i dont see whats so great about this kid... he proved me wrong twice lets see how he does in the nba
He is young so you might be right, but he did showcase those skills you speak of at the collegiate level, and the NBA level is a completely different animal with tons of great athletes.
one of my favorite players
His shot has gotton alot better in the workouts. He's been working hard on that.
i wish the best for this kid. great personality and a hard worker. plus i feel bad for the bobcats after last season lol
his shoot off the dribble is cray!
That double clutch on his jumper is going to get swatted a lot in the NBA.
those dribbling exercises were looking quite cool.
The guy's an animal, he's versatile, and I think he'll score, too, just not too much on jumpshots.
even without a consistent jumper, he is still a great all around player.
as long as the ball goes into the net on a consistent basis, nothing needs to change at all.
Between MKG, Brad Beal, Drummond, Barnes, and Robinson, it's so tough to tell which of these guys is gonna have the most success at the next level. It seems as if the top 6 picks in the draft this year might all have really good NBA careers! (I know that won't happen though)
totally agree, he will fit perfect with coach dunlaps up tempo offense.
This guy is not a person you judge from a workout like this. You have to watch him play against other guys to appreciate how good he is. He's a guy that will have the opposing coach chewing out his player for getting outworked over...& over...& over again.
Very explosive athlete.
He's going to be a top 3 pick, but it would have helped him to go back to school since his game is pretty unorthodox and very raw. He's got a lot of potential though.
Cant wait 2 see him on the break with kemba walker. That is going 2 be a nice combonation
yeah and the way he jumps so high on his shot reminds me of Jarryd Bayless
i completely agree, that was my point. i've just heard a lot of scouts complaining about his mechanics yet michael kidd gilchrist is projected to go higher than him
this dude has an IMPECCABLE shot and fallow through, the way he snaps his harm in, damn he has a SWEET looking shot! like I said its IMPECCABLE!!!! :)
Looks like he has some good game, hope he does good in the Pros.
Two different players. MKG in my eyes will be really good in the NBA. He attacks the open court like no one i've ever seen and when he's in the fast break he's almost unstoppable
MKG is a killer in the game, if you didn't watch him during his UK season. Then wait till you see him preform in the NBA.
He double clutches or double pumps when he shoots I used to do that but I learned to do it all in one motion without the clutch
It takes more concentration to effectively dribble two like that. If you can master that, you become better at dribbling with both hands individually.
heres someone who master the game of basketball
Though his shot does look funny, I like the consistency he shows with it. If he can get rid of that little pause at the top of his jumper and make his release a little faster, he could be a very good NBA jump shooter
his form won't change, but knowing his motor and effort and drive, even with his bad release he will probably become a pretty good shooter. shawn marion has a crazy form and does anyone remember duckworth's shot?

Turner played some pretty good ball in the playoffs
I've tried his jup shot release out before. Believe it or not, it actually helped me with my shooting game. It does has its disadvantages though, as I've been blocked multiple times using his jump shit release.
Plus with a jumper like that it will get blocked every time unless he's wide open.
That guy at the 3-point line is just, you know, chilling there. No big.
I shoot like him. I'm still only 16, how can I correct this hitch in my shot throughout this summer? I have 5 months till tryouts
he made it easy to be a Kentucky fan
I have a feelin' this dude is gonna be a major problem in the league...he speaks through his game on the court and on his release he can tighten that up a lil and he's gonna be a star In my opinion...
Great Player I think its gonna be a smooth transition from college to NBA but I think He needs to but on just a little more muscle
no theyve actually been working out in cleveland because thats where mike wanted to work out because its close to his agent rich paul of caa sports and because it was a lowkey place to workout
Coaches are def gonna try and change that hitch in his shot
hr does a freakin double clutch on his jumper
He has everything a good penetration he is a good outside shooter he's strong and fast he'll be successful in NBA
start from the beggining, one hand only, 90º with your shooting arm, ASIDE from your head, not in front! When you practiced that, advance to including the other arm, start with static shots near the rim, don't even think about jumpshots until you get the technique right in static shots

He will be a stud. Hopefully he fixes that release. He should just shoot it smoothly. Hopefully he can make Js from NBA range too.
I cant find any combine results of gerald, I was going to try and compare but oh well, I believe you.
as long as the jumper works its fine
His shot reminds me of Evan Turners very slow release but Turner is doing good in the league maybe he will too!
the difference between MKG and gerald wallace is that MKG knows how to win, hes a team player, and has character.
One on none in a quiet gym is completely different than being guarded by one of the best 500 players in the world with millions watching.
he's got a weird pause in his shot, but this guy is gonna be a beast.
I just hope the Cavs don't pick him, we took a leap of faith last year and got tristan and he didn't turn out to be what we expected, hopefully we make a smart pick this time around.
what is the point of taking shots with your foot on the line. if u want the three take a step back, if not shot at the elbow.
Future Kings Baby.
I hope CLE can land em at 4, if not trade up. Only concern that everyone else has pointed out is his slow release. Fab Melo at 22 would solve two gaping holes for us
MKG is great defender so he will be good in NBA
The Bobcats. Damn
Next big star
The guy's a first-rate athlete, he's fast and he's moving all the time. I don't see why he couldn't keep up with those guys. Minimum, he'll be one of the best defensive stoppers in the league. Disruptive is the word that comes to mind. He'll get tons of steals, blocks and rebounds (on both ends), and he should be a force in all aspects of the open floor game as well.
As long as he shoots it the EXACT same way every time I see no problem with the jumpshot.
Awesome Sneakers
he has a really nice handle should have showed more two ball drills
it makes both hands better
reaaaaaaallllllllllyyyyyyy bold statement !
why not the fans? he's gonna be an all star!
i agree, he seems to have a slow release. I am sure he can work on that though
Cavs are in such a great spot right now. if the wizards get MGK, then we get bradley beal or the other way around... cant wait for next season!
Should be a decent 3 in the league
We'll if we do pick him on the Cavs, I hope he works out. if we can get another scorer to help take the load off Irving then i think we might make the playoffs next year, Remember we still have Anderson varajou who is a beast in the paint, and his motor never stops, Plus we have Tristan, Jamison, And alonzo gee who is an big upcoming player.

upload more John Lucus Camp 2012 videos please
They wont because then he will have to adjust to a new shooting form which will takes weeks to months to get right than have to get it consistent. He already shoots well now so coaches wont risk messing his mid-range game up. If he was in highschool (YES), collage (maybe) but not coming into the NBA draft.
He jumpshot is nasty
Bobcats, please draft this kid.
I wonder if MKG can make the bobcats a desent team.
At least u gotta good pick my team skipped Perry Jones III for a dude from Mississippi St. Hopefully he's a good addition to the team
that shooting form...wow...
He's improved it now
Antbeast23 no he hasn't
Alex Rheinharder yea he has look at his release now
Nope the problem is not the release its the elbow
I'll show some vidoes than.
true but he is one guy i will say that he can stay at 100% during a game. hopefully his shot will come in time. but he's a hard worker and that'll pay off big

With that motor, fire and toughness, he'll be a further ranging Kenneth Faried at the very least.
his speed will be his best asset, you say he may get blocked more, I think he's faster than most at his position, he may be able to adjust his mechanics after 1 season.
Totally agree, it's weird but it gets the job done.
Wait.. You're gonna play the BOBCATS? You must be a HUGE fan.
LET THE BALL GO
The shot is not going to change..
i think kidd-gilchrist is gonna be a hell of a nba player. no dobut he needs to improve his jumper but its not like its that bad just more consistent with it. but one thing is for sure he is gonna put in all the the work times 100 to become a better player in all areas of his game dudes work ethic is unreal for a man his age like the baylor coach said after uk beat baylor "kidd-gilchrist is a man-child"
because Shawn Marion and MKG have the same game?
hmmm, whats his position in the NBA gonna be? Is he preparing to be SG now?
He's right handed but he brings the ball slightly to the left and then has a bit of a "late release" which of course one in the NBA teams can work on it haha
@cityleaguehoopsTv was this workout in New York at one of Jerry Powell's gyms? A lot of people feel he is the best trainer around that no one knows of.
More playing time and more of a challenge.
