  • What I find interesting and somewhat accurate is the world my Father lives in versus the world I live in is "One and the Same".

Having stumbled upon you guys just yesterday, I have to say, while I know it's a terribly emotional journey for you, you're touching many of us by sharing. There's hope seen in these video clips, something to hold on to. I really enjoy watching you. And, I'm personally touched because music is a part of my soul and always has been. I've been a singer all my life, whether performing in church, school, or for a few small events and many weddings in the past. I find music to be a real comfort. As they say, "it soothes the soul". Keep singing fellas! Love and blessings from Lake Norman, North Carolina ♡

Adam Hoge Thank You for your comment Adam. When you go to the hardware store how does your Father act?......does he go to a specific aisle?.....does he recognize the store items and what there used for?.....are you there browsing or do you sometimes buy something?........this is very interesting.

      The Journey with ToughKenaMan
The biggest thing for us is walking the isles and being out of the house. He focuses on the drills and hand tools the most but doesn't recognize the store at all. Occasionally something peaks his memory for a second, but its rare lately. Depending on his mood, we will buy something, and I have him pay for it even. I saw your trip out back to the shed in the back yard a few videos back. We have that same thing here, and occasionally that works too.

Your Dad seemed like he understood better on this day. I seen the video when you took him home and he didn't even know it was home, this disease is so heartbreaking.

Nina Reeder He has flash moments. Sometimes I think he may seem though as if he understands but he is only shaking his head and saying yes. I actually experienced some of that today.

You too can certainly my sing well.
Have you asked dad to say what colour each ford car is. Or to look out for a specific colour? Or to do a points score of 1 for silver 5 for red or something like that? :-)

Ah I did wonder. Not easy to tell what someone can and can’t do. I have no idea whether rob knows his colours. Sometimes yes. Sometimes no. Sometimes he just doesn’t understand what I am saying!

When did you know it was time to put your dad in dementia care?

Hi Linda....Im not sure we really knew when the time was right but I know when we did he was really having a hard restraining himself from his talking, singing and understanding that he cannot do certain things that would put himself in harms way. My Mother would not for a second get a break and went into a severe depression. Also, my Father was being more adventurous by going next door and imposing on our neighbors privacy. I have many incidents that I could share that was a real concern for his safety. The good thing about this new living arrangement is now my Mother is now able to sustain a relationship with my Father that is healthy while he is being taken care of and is safe. The day he was admitted in to the veterans senior center my life changed forever. I was devastated and still struggle with it. Making these videos has helped me cope with the reality of it all.
