    Haha, think the average return rate is about 1 in 15 to 1 in 20 - it happens. Get a uv pen and mark your expensive covered bits before closing, possibly put a date there too inside the lid. Do it off camera :D

    had a similar job, tested the ac adapter it was fine, as soon as i plugged it in, the voltage went to zero - unpluigged tested the adapter again - zero volts - unplugged the adapter, replugged - back to the correct voltage - the port was conducting the correct voltage but shorted as soon as the power button was pressed - upon examination the pins inside the port were bent at such an angle you couldnt see noramlly the port was loose around the adapter (so was not grounding out immidiately), but the adapter was also goosed - replaced both the port and adapter - jobs a good un...shows you can never assume only one fault - a virtually identical machine to this one...another great video Sorin....

    good Video sorin. Thanks :) you should mark items with UV pen on the components you replace. a tiny little deliberate scratch mark on the component to but ALSO, use a dab of tippex. the obvious tippex will be a little distraction from the REAL marks. make and keep a record of your marks offscreen.

      You don't have to!
      That's a power rail capacitor 50V one.. In SMD caps size determinate the approssimate value
      you can use a slightly bigger one to compensate for missing one's..

    Sometimes it's easier to fix the problem as to explain the customer that it wasn't related to the previous fault.
    For instance if you have a faulty MOSFET in a buck converter with 2 MOSFETs, one to VCC the other to ground, you only replace one and the second goes short a month later, lol, I don't know what could protect you in these cases an angel or a demon.

    acer: designed for the low category people, you can use it in a cave, a tent, or anywhere you are. Laptops such as ASUS, SONY, or similar are designed for high end people, only use them in the private helicopter, or else a server will cause malfunctions. The secret is in the acer factory battery, needs 10 discharges in Windows, and one discharge in Bios. Some of these cycles continuously switch on performance functions, then you can transfer your billions in a cave. Other manufacturers attack their devices with a drone, multiple countries pay its price from the tax.

    • @tvelektron

      Well, technically this is clearly another fault. But the customer does not see the difference clearly. The laptop is just dead again in the eyes of an typical customer. So in this case, do you charge the customer again for the repair, or fix it for free, like a warranty job?
    I mean... anybody will realize it's not your fault for this second failure, but the customers will (almost) always try to make it look so...

    • @silvake
      @silvake Год назад

      @Mr Guru
      As L. Rossmann once stated in a yt video about this subject: *"You touched it, you own it!"*
      Of course, recording a video with the actual diagnostics is one way to secure an evidence and build your arguments.
      But even facing that proof, customers will somehow make their best to try to make you responsible for the second (totally unrelated) failure.
      And in those cases, God forbid if you didn't had the means or time to cover yourself with such a video evidence...
      Not everybody records their repairs and post them on yt, that's what I'm saying...

    • @silvake
      @silvake Год назад

      @Mr Guru I'm not trying to troll or anything like that. I was just curious what will Sorin do in this case, with all the evidences that he put up to... And maybe looking for HIS advice for many of us here, who don't have the same means to do it like he does...

      Donor board and replace the exact one that works (not shorted). If the donor board does have a good capacitor you can test the capacitance otherwise you'll need a schematic. The capacity needs to be exactly the same but the voltage can be higher.
