      The core issue here is that most professions worldwide typically require some form of apprenticeship or formal education to earn a degree, but this is not the case with acting. Acting allows anyone to pursue it, leading to an overwhelming number of individuals calling themselves actors. In contrast, other professions and businesses are influenced by the principles of supply and demand, which affects pricing. However, the acting industry seems different as the abundance of actors allows studios to select the least expensive ones, ultimately causing actors to undermine their own pay rates. If there were fewer actors, they would likely have more bargaining power.
      Additionally, the question arises as to why actors receive residuals, while contractors who build a hotel do not receive ongoing payments when the hotel generates income. This raises a valid point for consideration.

    • @BelieveInJMH
      @BelieveInJMH Год назад +2

      @@1timeemailaddress811 To your last point, if you saw a 30 min to 2 hr video of just sounds, colorful visuals etc you probably wouldn't pay to watch it. Hence, the actors and the story they tell is the key to that income.
      Hotels, on the other hand, receive their income largely from the ongoing services and amenities no thanks to the contractors. Sure, the look, function, and location of said hotels definitely play a key part as well, but let's not get it confused into thinking it's because of the contractors individually and personally like it is with acting.

    • @1timeemailaddress811
      @1timeemailaddress811 Год назад

      @@BelieveInJMH After posting my comment, I experienced a change of heart, or I should say I suddenly comprehended why a contractor does not receive any residuals, and why this is appropriate. Allow me to explain. Let's consider a scenario where a contractor constructs a hotel for the renowned Four Seasons brand. The hotel's success and profitability are attributed to the Four Seasons' name and reputation, not the contractor's name. Consequently, the contractor's involvement ends once the hotel is built, and they have no responsibility for anything that follows. I now understand this perspective. Similarly, the same applies to an actor. It is their name that sells the movie, not someone else's name.
      However, this understanding raises another question: Why don't actors compensate the studio if a movie results in financial losses? Actors expect to be paid handsomely when a movie becomes a hit, but they do not bear any financial burden when a movie fails, or worse, costs the studio a significant amount of money.
      Thanks for your time.

      SAG AFTRA hs hijacked the WGA strike. This is not something to be proud about. The writers aren't multimillionaires like many of the actors you see in the SAG strike. SAG timed this strike in order to garner public sympathy. If they held a strike without the writers, the public would be crucifying them for being greedy multimillionaires. But since the writers were already on a strike for 2 months before SAG started their strike, they had nothing to lose, but everything to gain from this strike.
      Just look up the demands of SAG AFTRA compared to WGA. You are all being fooled by this populist rhetoric

      The fact independent movies and TV shows have no problems agreeing to the unions terms in order to get a production waver basically tells you the money they ask for shouldn't be a issue and it's just studios being greedy and wanting to use their new billions to buy things up like MGM and Hulu to add to their already massive empires.

    I don't think the ask is high. There are some current union strikes happening around the world where the average salary is $130K yet that is still not enough. Those strikes (not related to safety issues or anything of that nature - just pay/inflation) are harder to support for the average watcher. Yes, you can say the bosses are making a lot, but when you make $130K, most average income earners are not that sympathetic especially if you're holding up the supply chain and thus CONTRIBUTING to inflation. But again, this strike is very different ($26K???) and reasonable re: AI, streaming, etc.

I know this because I discovered dead links to them in my Google Search results for "streaming 2 Broke Girls." The writers and actors of 2 Broke Girls learned from making that show, that they do not want to go broke from streaming services taking away from their residual payments for syndication and buying physical media. Well what's stopping you from pursuing your dream job and getting a career that will generate you money until the end of time? If the answer is along the lines of "it's too hard and I'm taking the easy money" then you have no right to complain. Most of the people in film and TV are struggling artist who chooses passion over profit. There's truth to the saying that millions of people try to pursue the Hollywood dream and millions quit in less than a year. The door is always open if you're willing to grind it through, but most people don't have the patience to do so and just take the easy money done the line.
      It should also be mentioned, many of these people are making less money on base pay vs what it was just 10 years ago. That's not even touching the non existent residuals they get.
