Love Edmonds! I've been squidding for awhile, squid approach and attack the jig mainly when the jig moves down or at a standstill, so when pulling up 1-3ft every few seconds to test if you got anything I've found that the force you use is pretty key. Pull too hard and you won't be able to detect the weight of the small squid on your line, pull too weak and you won't set the hook. Any subtle change in resistance on a pull should trigger you to set the hook...and the feel can be super subtle depending on the size of the squid. Depth is also super important, it varies from shallow to deep... so if you see someone absolutely slaying it and pulling up squid on every cast, try to copy their depth (using a 2 jig setup can help you cover more depth). The squid also tend to come in waves, so when you see a bunch of other people starting to pull up squid, you best get your jig in the water ASAP because when the waters are hot the waters are HOT and you can pull up squid like every 5-10 seconds :D
I needed all this guidance! Haha my first night was so frustrating cuz I hadn’t figured out all the tricks and had no feel for it at all! I’ve found that everything you mentioned is on point - as I became more aware of these aspects I became more successful at catching the squid, but definitely need more experience to get on the level of the guys I saw out there hauling squids up non-Stop. Can’t wait until the next season comes!!
Omg I’ve been wanting to try squidding! Your video looks so fun and I want to eat them squids lol!! Thank you for sharing your first time experience Anh! Love it!
Great video! I live in Seattle as well, where can I get the license to go squidding? Also possible future video idea, showing us how you cook the squid :)
Thanks for watching! 🤗🙏🏼 you don’t actually need a license for squidding if you plan to stay on the docks to do it! Though squidding season is not open until temperatures get colder so usually late October until late Jan!
I just cook them myself! I cleaned them up and them stuffed them with some ground pork that I seasoned - similar technique to making sausages, but using the squid as the encasing instead of pig intestine. Just pan fry them until the inside is cooked and it's ready to enjoy! :)
Thank you - glad you enjoyed the video! During peak season which I would say was around October through early december there were a TON! More experienced people were just catching one after another non-stop. Many filled up there buckets within 20-40 minutes of being out there! The floating ball is so you can see where your line is at in the water, because squidding is done at night you won't be able to see your fishing line well - without that ball your line might get caught with other people's lines if you don't know to pull the lines away or avoid throwing your line down near there line!
Hi there! What I learned from people around the docks who were catching a ton of squid was that the best rods are the ones used for catching Trout, ideally around 7 ft long with some flexibility (not too much) in the tip as it allows the bait to move similar to shrimp which the squids like to eat! The most important thing though is the squid jigs that you use as bait - I've found that those which are green and/or pink and glow in the dark work the best in attracting the squids! Good luck and have fun! You'll figure it out in no time - it takes a little patience at first to get a hang of it!
Thank you! I actually just used an Iphone X so nothing fancy at all! I just made sure to get good lighting and set the phone's video setting to a sufficient quality setting for making youtube videos (1080 & 60 fps)!
Oh man i'm so stoked! i saw one of your quality vids weeks ago and clicked this thinking nothing. now i know it's gonna be helpful

How did you end up cooking them? at home or do you take it to a specific place?

Great video. That's crazy how many are out there. Stupid question, what is ball looking thing above your jig?

Thanks for your video! Could give me some recommendations on fishing rods? What is the brand of yours please?
