Lol, ik you guys dont think you're interesting but you both have warm and fun personalities, and its easy to see that you're sincere. I cant speak for everybody who watches but y'all seem like people i would befriend irl. Happy New Years!
Things I love in the vlog 1. no "Hey GUYS.... hello and welcome...bla bla bla" and no "buy my merch" 2. dogs 3. diys 4. down to earth people 5. Genes uncontrollable spending habits (RIP :()
C'mon you guys are interesting. Gene, I love the energy that you radiate and Kari and the whole gang are a mixed of different personalities that makes the whole vlog more awesome. I will be always looking forward to watch your genuine passion, energy and your love with your toys and life in general. Have a great year Gene and the whole gang. And as always, don't forget to be awesome.
Gene turns to Kari: "so data rate is" *clear stare that says 'cmon man you know I don't care* Gene: "So it's....." Don't stop these videos guys. They're great. Genuinely look forward to every upload
Depending on the skill level and experience of the contractor ($150 hour for senior, 8 hour working day, about 8 days total for worse case scenario...) $9600 or $10,000 total just for labor. It really depends on what kind of materials you're selecting. Materials range in prices and usually contractors like to overbid for mistakes (say something breaks on the tile shipment or glass door ). They rather have the owner pay for it than out of their pockets. Hence, the overbidding is to cover their butts. On top of that, millwork time for the cabinets/sink if you want it new and/or custom. Oh then the contractor has to do demolition which includes the fees to remove, dispose, or reuse. Plus possible unseen water damage or mold behind the walls from previous owners - that can be pricey and delay your construction, thus adding more hours on top of the $10,000 estimate. You should really break down the estimate by hours for each segment and cost of material with the contractor so you know he isn't ripping you off or the other way around. Happy bidding!
I’ve got a bathroom renovation I want to do here in NorCal. I’m gonna guess labor is going to cost you around $15k. So with materials a little over $20k sounds about right.
Great vlog as always. We are currently building a house, and my wife and I initially wanted to do a lot of the work ourselves but decided against it, to keep our sanity (and marriage lol) so we are to letting the builder do everything. My guess on your contractor labor costs is that it adds an additional 30% to each project.
Happy new year, Gene and Kari 😀 Well done on all the hard work. The house looks so modern inside! 🥳 Bathroom labour cost? Probably $8 000. Total cost $12 000 - one-third materials + two-thirds labour. The Seinheiser sounds more muffled, I think, maybe a little more wet too. Thanks for a great vlog 🙂 We also bought a house last year, so it's great to watch you "work with" me 🙂 If that makes sense 😅 Love to the doggos!
First off, I work as a contractor in Indiana and would need to know more information! For example, $5,000 can get you supplies but many jobs are labor intensive (such as tile). I would say approximately $12,500 in labor only. I will give you an even better deal. You fly me out and I will help you with your bathroom for a week. Trust me, I know how to do bathrooms. I would absolutely love to meet the whole crew and absolutely love your channel. No creepy things either. I am happily married, have great kids, but would love to help you out! By the way, I have installed toilets that are almost as expensive as your whole bathroom supply list. Think about it! You won't be disappointed. You need some pictures let me know as the proof is in the pudding.
The Senheiser mic sounded worse (not a lot worse, but still worse). It sounded a little muffled and kind of like it’s in a metal tin or something. Not bad though, but I would keep the rode videomic pro+ personally
If the cost is $4-5K for materials, I’m going to guess a licensed contractor with crazy LA prices (I’m in Vancouver, BC, so don’t know for sure) will be approx the same as materials; if not slightly more. So let’s say $5-6K as my guess on your particular quote… Secondly, the Rode sounds better (in my opinion) - that Sennheiser sample seems to have lesser balanced coverage through all the frequencies, seemingly tailing off a bit in both the low and higher frequencies giving it a less “full” and natural sound (also assuming you have the foam on Rode and furry on Sennheiser [which already has built in wind protection with the base capsule]…although not sure that would make a significant difference between those two in that setting). The Rode Videomic NTG is also a wicked option…but I’m more than certain you’ve already explored that… How was the H.265 to edit (on the MacBook M1 Pro)? Still 4:2:2? I’m a LUMIX fan myself (S1H), but really appreciate the content and nuance you show with the awesome Sony lineup! Where in Canada are you guys going? 🤔
Redoing the bathroom, around 12 K with materials. I am redoing my siding of my house now, they quoted me 80K. I hope your sidings are good~! Always another part of the house to fix.
Happy New Years guys!! Huge props to you. If you can hang doors so they close properly, you can do pretty much any home repair/remodel project. When I did all my doors in my house when we bought it in the early 90s, all of my doors slightly rubbed when you closed them. PITA. I finally found out how to fix them last year and the one door I put in since they works perfectly. You're WAY ahead of where I was.
I look forward to seeing what adventures you guys go on in 2022! I think that the newer mic does not sound quite as crisp as the old one. If I had to guess labor price I would say close to $6,279
Love the Vlogs; Hit me up if u want some sweet location POI's in the PNW I've lived in WA for over 20 years and have motorcycled extensivly around WA OR ID
This is totally the best vlog on internet right now. Maybe because I’m also in my 30s (haha) but mostly thanks to your relaxed and honest style. Thank you 💖
i'm guessing he quoted you 6k in labor. Only because you said "just the labor not the material" which makes me feel like the labor is more than the material. always get multiple quotes to make sure they aren't price gouging
Mic. Quality is decent, though a bit more muffle than the Rode Videomic Pro +, I like the Rode much more. For the labour part with the contractor, I am guessing 18.500$
I'm going with $10,000ish for labour. Because: 1. It's LA. 2. From your expression it's more than bill of materials (often is in most places anyway). 3. That's not an inconsiderable amount of work.
I renovated a bathroom that was pretty much 6 feet by 6 feet. The high ticket item was a jacuzzi tub but the whole reno cost $14,000 back in 2004 and that included all of the fixtures. So I wouldn't be surprised if your labor costs were $15,000 in todays prices and LA prices ... I'm in New Hampshire. Oh and Happy New Year! 🥳
The Sennheiser sounds more distant and muffled. Not necessarily in a bad way, though. As for the labour pricing, I'm guessing around the 320$/h mark, hence a full 8h day would be 2560$. Assuming it's a two person job for one day or a one person job for two days it's double, so 5120$ in labour. Plus the parts of 4k$ total cost is 9120$ excl. tax.
I like the old mic more. It may be around 11K$. Gene: "I just bought this 200$ laser for DIY.". Just seconds later: "I'm gonna retire from DIY house stuff." :D
Happy New Year all!! Hope your test tested negative not like mine. Started the year covid positive yeyy! In Malta it would be around a €1,000 for labor, in LA I guess around $20,000??
$20,000 for the bathroom labor estimate. (Gosh I hope I'm wrong, because we just got an estimate for $15,000, so if your quote is less than 20k, I'm going to try much harder to get more quotes.) Also, both microphones sounded fine to me, but I like the first one better.
*Amazed by a person saying they could watch you for hours^ I don't think yinz know how easy it is to enjoy your content lol Also, the Rode mic definitely was better and fuller, and the labor is probably somewhere in the 10-12k range. I know the total project here in Pittsburgh would be less than 10k lol
Remodeling that bathroom will run you a cool 10 to 25 racks. There's demo to be done, assessing your current building structure and do repairs/reinforcing where its needed, the electricity work, the plumbing, plus renovation permits and about 1-2 weeks worth of labor for 2-3 people on the job. And the job has to be up to code standards to pass LA county building and safety inspection (hence the permit).
I love to watch the house renovations. It's great to see the progress. It's nice having Kari be involved in your videos. You make a great team. My guess is $13,500 for the bathroom labor. When you are in Washington State come see me in Kennewick, Washington. We can talk about the Arri Alexa. I got one shortly after you got yours, because you showed how to mount Canon EF lenses on the Arri.
Lol, ik you guys dont think you're interesting but you both have warm and fun personalities, and its easy to see that you're sincere. I cant speak for everybody who watches but y'all seem like people i would befriend irl. Happy New Years!
This
potato: “I want to announce my retirement of”
Me: *starts crying*
I like the sound of the older mic. Sounds like you're closer and Fuller.
Guessing $17,500 because of COVID, inflation, and lack of workers.
With some EQ you can probably get these mics to sound exactly the same...
@@paulloth True, but that would take some time away from actually finishing the video. Although it might be worth it, maybe not though.

I feel like Gene could make a video on legit anything and it would be hella interesting.
Bathroom ,at least 15k$ USD. Kari expressing her deep discontent for becoming a vlogger, priceless 🤣
As a former contractor, you put in amazing amount of effort into diy.
@Seb Gibbs worse is when people start, screw up, then it costs even more for contractors to fix.
Depending on the skill level and experience of the contractor ($150 hour for senior, 8 hour working day, about 8 days total for worse case scenario...) $9600 or $10,000 total just for labor.

Love the vlogs! Long time fan. If y’all do end up in Texas I’m in Austin and would love to have you in a bbq vid!
Happy New Year Guys! Lol I have no guess on the plumbing… LA is mad expensive but that does look like a lot of labour
I’m guess is around 20k to 25k. Happy New Year. Keep on these amazing vlogs.
Ironically, I could watch you guys for hours just hanging out and doing stuff. FPV drone flying, motorcycle riding, and etc.
I’ve got a bathroom renovation I want to do here in NorCal. I’m gonna guess labor is going to cost you around $15k. So with materials a little over $20k sounds about right.

For someone that hates vlogging Kari is very good at it. I'm going to guess $15,000 for the labor because that seems crazy enough. LOL
25k for labour.
Also With the mic you remind me of podcast from ghostbusters afterlife.
$11,000 for the labor in LA is my guess 😅
If the cost is $4-5K for materials, I’m going to guess a licensed contractor with crazy LA prices (I’m in Vancouver, BC, so don’t know for sure) will be approx the same as materials; if not slightly more. So let’s say $5-6K as my guess on your particular quote…

Laser level is best purchase I’ve made since getting house. Already paid for it self.
The switch to the Sennheiser was really obvious at the outset but a few moments later, it sounds great.
Redoing the bathroom, around 12 K with materials.
I am redoing my siding of my house now, they quoted me 80K. I hope your sidings are good~! Always another part of the house to fix.
The new mic sounds flatter to me. The old one has more life to it.
Come to Saskatchewan while up north
My guess is $32k for the bathroom. I really hope it isn't that much! 🙊
The daily text is great in the center but I think it should be bold to make it better
I'll bid $1 Bob.
Gene, i'm 35 this summer. i still point and luagh when my friends fall on they're ass/face 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Both, both is good.
Rode sounds way better. Happy New Year!
House is coming along really nicely!!!
8-10k. Labour is crazy.
Yess gene with an upload = instaclick
Happy New Years guys!! Huge props to you. If you can hang doors so they close properly, you can do pretty much any home repair/remodel project. Happy new year. I really love these behind the scenes vids.
You guys seem like the most fun couple to know .
Argh! What a cliffhanger. You're going to Canada and.... Meeting with Matti, or Peter or...?
Love the Vlogs; Hit me up if u want some sweet location POI's in the PNW I've lived in WA for over 20 years and have motorcycled extensivly around WA OR ID

🙌🙌🙌
First mic for sure, second sounded distorted. $12,500-15,000 for labor on your bathroom
Welcome to Canada, eh!
Hope you’re heading someplace warm… my dog does *not* want to go outside at all these days. (-45° windchills can do that.)
Bathroom remodel, especially if doing tile work.... Probably $8000 or so.
i'm guessing he quoted you 6k in labor. Only because you said "just the labor not the material" which makes me feel like the labor is more than the material. always get multiple quotes to make sure they aren't price gouging
I'm showing my age here but you guys remind me of Waynes World... (it's a compliment)
I got the bathroom labor at $7,500. I live in Texas, so its half that and that's the basis for my educated guess.
Happy New Year!! $24,873.26 in labor only.
10k for the bathroom.
Home Depot will sponsor this channel soon lol you guys are great together 😍
I'm guessing around 21K. LA is expensive and many contractors are booked.
I’m guessing 5 thousand bucks for the labour!
$5500 for labor. You can save money by not heating your house at 71, drop it to 68. ;)
Bathroom quote: $17.200. LA prices, pandemic pricing.
Happy New Year! The mic sounds pretty good. 👍🏾
Labor and parts complete bathroom renovation, $17,500... give or take a thousand or two 🤷♂️
Almost finish renovating home: “Let’s plan vacations away from home!!”
Love these video, but you bathroom will cost you $14k
My guess for bathroom labour cost is around $8.5k, putting the total around $13k
I am in the bay area and I got quoted $15k for labor. So my guess is 13k for LA!
$22,800 - labor.
$7,564 ... and if I'm correct Happy New Year to "The Potato Family".
Btw when is your potato farm going to be available in other countries.
$25K. Good luck!
My guess is $8K but it is probably more like $16K LOL
Serious question.....can you guys adopt me? 🤗😁
Great job with the renovations!
Hmmm I’m thinking 8,000 for labor if you said 4,000 in supplies because I’m thinking 12,000 total. I live in Brooklyn but I know LA prices from HGTV.
Mic. Quality is decent, though a bit more muffle than the Rode Videomic Pro +, I like the Rode much more. For the labour part with the contractor, I am guessing 18.500$
Labour for Bathroom $1,575, These VLOGs = priceless
If it's anything like NY, then it's around $14,050 for labor to demo/flip your bathroom
HAHA Bro I'm still renovating too! I feel your pain.
Bathroom renovation $8500-$10,000 USD would be an expensive price not including materials and you said it was expensive so that’s my guess.
I'm going with $10,000ish for labour. Because:
1. It's LA.
2. From your expression it's more than bill of materials (often is in most places anyway).
3. That's not an inconsiderable amount of work.
7500$ for home renos?!?!?! + 5000 for parts my final guess is 12.5K
$19498. Or the cost of one Sony 600mm and the A1.
I renovated a bathroom that was pretty much 6 feet by 6 feet. The high ticket item was a jacuzzi tub but the whole reno cost $14,000 back in 2004 and that included all of the fixtures. I've gotta guess nearly $14k for the labor alone!! They love to get you on that labor cost!
I’m going to guess around $13500-14k. And about 20k for the whole project including material and labor.
I'm guessing $15k for the bathroom, based on zero experience 😆
Three Things:
1. $18,500 for the bathroom labor
2. Where is Sam?
3. What happened to the studio space?
Im guessing the labor for the bathroom would cost around 10K to 12k
I'm just throwing $8,500 out there because my brain likes numbers
So while I was working my ass off taking pictures for a quinceañera on my birthday (Jan 4th btw), Gene was out here complaining about Ikea…. Bruh….
Yeah, I totally can watch these videos for hours. They're therapeutic for me and I'm not even kidding.
you like those gloves for FPV ?
I need a pair of thumbless...
tired of cold hands..
20k for the remodel labor.. I paid 15k in Washington
Happy New Year all!! Hope your test tested negative not like mine. Started the year covid positive yeyy! In Malta it would be around a €1,000 for labor, in LA I guess around $20,000??
Guys see if they just need to start your own podcast cuz just like listening to you guys and your energy
$20,000 for the bathroom labor estimate. (Gosh I hope I'm wrong, because we just got an estimate for $15,000, so if your quote is less than 20k, I'm going to try much harder to get more quotes.) Also, both microphones sounded fine to me, but I like the first one better.

We shop around for bathroom prices and I'm going to guess $60k. We just ended up doing it all ourselves... We even installed heated floors!
Remodeling that bathroom will run you a cool 10 to 25 racks. Happy new year! Hope you guys have a wonderful trip to Canada. I’m guessing about 15k in labor.
Since my brother is also remodeling last time we check labor was around $5k-$10k depends.
I'm guessing around $16,000 for labor???
Happy new year guys! Come to
Winnipeg lol. Seriously come to
Winnipeg.
