I think the song is about Hurin being captured and Morgoth gloating about the curse he put on his children. And the chorus must be from the elves of Gondolin who Hurin saved by holding Morgoths forces long enough for them to escape.

this song and tides of war make my heart pound, i love them so much, it's actually insane that music can have that effect, and sadly both of those songs are not on spotify for some ungodly reason..

@@tylercherneski1805 they’ve been my favorite band since 2010. I’ve owned all their albums for years and listened to each of them hundreds of times you pretentious ass clown. I know all the differences between each of them and what I said still stands, their recent albums are every single bit as great as the older ones.

@@jessel3621 ah I see, I have the remastered 2007 of Nightfall in Middle Earth, they must've added the "unfinished songs" (at the time) Doom & Tides of War on the 2018 remastered. Just like they added Harvest of Sorrow on the 2007 remastered. My bad

I thought I was the only BG fan to have this opinion lol. They made a near-masterpiece with At the Edge of Time, then it was all downhill from there.

@@tylerpike954 yeah for some reason most people don't think like that. To me there's a very clear and very steep drop off after at the edge of time. Incredibly sad since they had like 7 albums in a row that were all near perfect then they went to absolute shit so fast

Didn't Tides of War and Doom get added onto the NIME reissue in 2018?
Besides this seems unnecessary, because BG already ignores the worsening songwriting quality by just...packing pre-ANATO songs on all their setlists. I don't think the Bards have played a singular song from Beyond the Red Mirror after the tour ended.
P.S: I do still argee that Blind Guardian songwriting hit a hard decline after At the Edge of Time, but I think you're exaggerating how bad it is, yes Beyond the Red Mirror and The God Machine has some bad songs, but the problem lies more with the mixing than the songwriting.
Recent BG songs are ok power metal songs, they're just not memorable or special in any way (especially The God Machine)

@@antoninuslarpus7107 I can agree with that overall, it’s not that the songwriting on recent albums was flagrantly awful, but bad by Blind Guardian standards. Where I disagree is that I will insist the songwriting was just as much if not more of a problem than the mixing. Don’t get me wrong, there are some good songs, and good moments in less-good songs. But for every well-executed section, there are multiple parts that are either interesting but half-cooked ideas, clunky transitions, or bland filler.
My biggest issue with their recent work though has been with Hansi’s lyrics and vocal parts. The lyrics are wordy and cumbersome even by Hansi standards, and it affects the quality of his vocal sections and/or the choruses in nearly every song. It’s like he’s trying and failing to make prose work as lyrics, or he’s just not bothering to edit anymore.
Those are just my opinions, anyway. As it is, if someone asks me today what my favorite band is, I still say Blind Guardian, just as I have for 22 years.

@tylerpike954 Really? Hansi's Vocals and Vocal melodies are honestly still one of the more enjoyable parts for BG.
My main gripe is all those half-cooked ideas, clunky transitions, and the fucking filler
And I think part of the reason lies in Blind Guardian's refusal to integrate their Bass and Keys players as full-fledged members. Part of what makes so many good bands memorable is their ability to fuse varying instruments into harmonity.
Take Noldor, for example. As we enter the last part of the song, one of the cool things I noticed is that Oliver plays a melody that mirrors Andre's. It sounds aesethically pleasing and fills what would've been played by backing guitar
Or take Precious Jerusalem, Matthias's (Weisner) use of effects makes the song sound(for lack of a better term) 'Oriential'. It's spacious too, so you can hear when he comes into play. It's pretty cool.
This doesn't exist in modern Blind Guardian. Keys and Bass are treated as secondary installations to be played in live performances. And so the session members don't get a say in songwriting.
I don't think I need to say anything about Frederik that hasn't already been said. He's not a bad drummer, and Thomen left big shoes to fill, but I hate how he always has to default back to the snare whenever something interesting happens in a song.
Like do a fill, fuck around with the cymbals a little bit, it's been 20+ years and it still feels like he's treated as a Session member.
I'd also say Marcus got less creative, but that might not be his fault. After NIME, he gets saddled with ANATO (well known for its traditional music structure). He might have some good melodies in 'A Twist in the Myth', but I literally can't tell you because the mixing in that album is atrocious. Then comes the 2010 album, I liked some of the melodies(e.g, Ride Into Obession) , but once again, we see a reduced presence with more orchestral works. I haven't listened to Beyond The Red Mirror in a while, so I can't judge that very well. But it seems to be the same story. And, of course, he doesn't do anything for the rest of the 2010s due to the Twilight Orchestra.
The band feels a lot less like a band and more like a Hansi-Andre project, and this is fine because both are creative geniuses. But no genius can have infinitely brilliant ideas.
