  • We fell in love with Jemima aka Jessa on Lena Dunham’s HBO show GIRLS and never looked back. The hair, the accent, the carefree attitude we could only dream about - that’s Jessa, I mean, Jemima’s essence! Today I sit down with her to talk about her new series on Apple TV, City on Fire, how she got on with Nico Tortorella, where she stands with Lena, if GIRLS could exist today and more!

    Hearing that Jemima improvised most of her lines in the first couple of seasons explains why I felt Jessa got flatter in later seasons. (Not Jemima's performance, just where the character went.) Jessa's early lines, like in the abortion episode about wanting to have udders and how dates are for lesbians, made the character hilarious and relatable for me.

    Her aura is insane. Even as a gay man, I’m captivated by her. She just gives off cool girl vibes. Like someone who grew up in privilege, travelling around the world, but always found a way to immerse herself in the underground culture with average locals, rather than going to designer stores and fancy restaurants.

    I'm rewatching Girls. I think in some ways this show is better than Fleabag. And I'm convinced without it there wouldn't be Fleabag later. It's amazing for me how my view of different characters on the show has changed. I used to be so annoyed with Hannah and I loved Jessa, I thought she was the only one who knew what she was doing. Now Hannah is the least annoying character for me, Marnie is driving me crazy with being such a narcissist and Jessa seems so lost. I thought Shosh had a certain wisdom, now I see how she makes the same mistakes as the other girls and she's so clueless. I love this show, I think it's a gem.

      I love this show too, I rewatch it every couple of years. it's hilarious how so many people believe that the showrunners pretend that their characters are morally right and throw so much shit at it and they wouldnt consider for a second that these characters were purposely written to be really flawed, and that in all of that we could understand that even with all their flaws and narcissistic traits, we can still find things to relate to. Also its funny af

    jemima: explicitly states that domino is older than both her and lola and that lola is the youngest, explains their age difference in detail, describes how it affected their accents
    the host, 10 seconds later, in a surprised voice: "wait, so you're the middle one?"

    Just noting that 'age appropriate' is not having long hair after 30, but a Snow White and the Seven Dwarves baseball tee is a mature wardrobe classic. Obviously.

    So dudes need murder 'n shit to watch a show? Really? I would consider myself a classic male (skater, surfer, gamer, creative director), but I loved the show. It's about humans and human interaction. That's even more suspenseful than seeing a crime committed.

    • @Persnikity-yv3nh
      @Persnikity-yv3nh 5 месяцев назад

      I think the conventional wisdom in entertainment is that guys don't watch female-led character-based shows. For a long time writers were told to add "action" (sex and violence) into shows to bring in a male audience. It's such an outdated attitude and it means that shows like Girls aren't promoted to a HUGE demographic that could really enjoy them.

    That show was whatever…such a girly show my friend liked. I didn’t know she struggled in real life. That’s how I feel I wouldn’t want to be an actor either or being famous. Weird vibes lately. Now my daughter just likes my mom barely me and her dad lol
