Staying away from water doesn't prevent drowning it is learning how to swim that prevents you. Even though you stay away from swiming you can always find yourself in a situation where you end up in the water. Good for you that you still learned., even at 22.
It's never too late to learn to swim, but anybody watching this should take this as a warning that they should learn to swim and make sure their children learn to swim. You never know when you or your kid might fall in the water. Knowing basic water safety could prevent drowning.
You two are absolutely adorable. I find your inside explanation of the FLDS so interesting. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. You are so open and thoughtful in your explanations.
I grew up in a cult as well. Not FLDS but we did have to always wear long skirts and shirts to our wrists. We most often wore very full long denim shirts. You have not lived until you have swum in long denim skirts. They get so heavy and twisted around while you were in the water. It made you not want to swim. :)
First I love your content as the FLDS really fascinates me !! I think it's amazing that you got out and so have several of your siblings. I don't particularly have a question but would love to hear more stories from out there!! I have been binge watching your chanel for the last week !!
I had to learn to swim @ 7-8 years old. I was by my self @ a community pool, and decided to go to the deep end. I started to sink, and drank a bunch of water on the way down. I was pretty close to giving up on trying to swim. My legs were tired, I was tired of not bieng able to breath, and tired of drinking a bunch of water all @ once. My hate for all those things made me want to keep trying to swim up . It felt like forever like I was stuck in time! Felt like time was killing me slowly. I figured out I could use my arms to help me. Eventually I reached the top, and was able to touch the side. I was there trying to gather the strength to lift my self up for a while. I felt too weak but luckily was able to quickly do it! (I even thought about giving up while already @ the top) Ever since I been afraid of not being able to breath. (I have asthma too so sometimes I trip out when I can't breath right) I still continued to go to swimming pools though. I was even the first out of my whole summer camp group to jump off a high diving board @ one point! I have always been the type to face my demons even if I was scared out of my mind now thinking about it. IDK why I always make my self 😂 Maybe it's my pride or maybe I just don't want to be afraid anymore, and or maybe it's a little bit of both! 🤷🏻♂️
My father was a Marine and he can't swim. It's unbelivable for me. I learnt to ski when I was 23. Quite late taking into account that I had spent all my winter breaks in the mountains. If I had your attitude I would have done it sooner. One accident scared me off. When you jump in life God throws you good people to help you. Glad you survived
I grew up in a fundamentalist house, but in the secular world. No radio or TV. Couldn't go swimming because of the clothing issues. Couldn't go skating because of the music. Couldn't go to the movies. There was a reason for not being able to do pretty much anything. It was so embarrassing to wear those dresses below the knees while everyone else was in shorts and t shirts. Plus we were poor. Lol.... Oh well what doesn't kill ya makes you stronger. By the way I realized at a very young age that it was just all B.S.
I also grew up in a fundamentalist church. The funny part was, we could roller skate to music, but we couldn't dance. I guess they thought teenagers couldn't be sexy on roller skates.
It was definitely one of those things that you don't realize until you leave and then you wear shorts and it's like whoa! haha What have I been missing my whole life! haha =)
My mother who grew up in a very poor family in the UK never got the chance to learn to swim despite living right by the sea. That was very common in those days.; In fact years later when I was checking something with treasurehunters [ long story] they said in the 1600s and 1700s sailors on big sailing ships and pirates mostly could not swim so never buried treasure anywhere they woujd have to swim to. Anyway when we were very small she took up to the public baths to get used to the water (these days even in the shallow end in our over cautious UK she would not be able to take 2 small children never mind 3 as you have to have one adult per child even in the shallow end - ridiculous). Then our parents paid for lessons too and we did swimming later at school and our mother was so pleased not just because we liked swimming but because of the safety aspects. The same applies for many Africans escaping to Europe - most of them cannot swim and if they fall off boats from Africa to Europe they often drown if their life jackets do not work because they never learned to swim. I certainly made sure all my children had swimming lessons.
I also feel like since Sam is so tall that he can get away with not even needing to swim in shallow water and shallow pools. I also feel like the women wearing the long dresses can be very dangerous and make it hard for them to swim. It’s kind of strange to think that they believe that Satan controls the water. I was taught that God is the one who is in charge of the waters as well as everything else, and that Satan has no power over God’s creation.
Poor Sam. lol Don't feel bad, I did the same exact thing at 19, while whitewater rafting.......with a life vest on. 🙈 I have NO excuses, I just failed to learn to swim, somehow. I kinda pulled the same thing you did, "sure, I'll get out of the raft and jump off this cliff! What could go wrong?" Come to find out, A LOT! 😝 I CLIMBED up this crazy terrain to get up there, barely. Once I got to the top, I KNEW it was a very bad decision. One problem, there is only one way off this cliff IF you make it to the top ......JUMP! I was so frightened that my legs were weak with fear, and I barely had the strength to clear the cliff when I pushed off. In case you can't tell, it was very traumatic for me! 😆 45, and still can't swim. At this age, do I REALLY need to know how?
I was 30 years old and still couldn't swim. My five year old daughter swam gracefully by me and said "Mom don't be a wimp. You can swim." I said "Okay!" And I started swimming! I can only swim on my back but just goes to show if your kid puts on the pressure it can happen haha!!
So you quite literally answered the question "If all your friends jumped off a cliff would you do it too?" :)

It is like looking at Barbie and Ken lol such a beautiful looking couple
You are too sweet!
I'm learning so much about the 18 year old man's thought process and I'm absolutely fascinated!
I’m loving your videos! Binge watching then :)
We are so glad you like them!
This answers my question about swimming. Thanks
I've spotted 'em at Sand Hollow before. They glide around like eels in those Prairie dresses.
You two are absolutely adorable. I find your inside explanation of the FLDS so interesting. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. You are so open and thoughtful in your explanations.
Thank you so much!
Oh my gosh that is so scary. I'm almost 38 and I still don't know how to swim. I made sure my 4 kids knew how to swim and to swim well.

corduroy skirts down past your knees when wet was very heavy

The little one that jumped off a diving board with a floatie (thinking it would save her) was actually me.
Anyone else think Sam is like the literal life like Ken doll ☺️ my daughter said it and now I can't unsee it lol
Are there some thing that you did as a kid in the FLDS that you still do and teach your kids now?
I still do a lot of projects and teach my children how to work hard and with their hands.
My father was a Marine and he can't swim. It's unbelivable for me.

He’s like - omg they were right Satan does control the water. He’s trying to kill me. 😂
How many times did you almost die growing up? I think this is the second story I’ve heard. I’m glad you survived your childhood.
It came from the deaths with river crossing when the pioneers came to the west. 😊
Loveeee the positive attitudes and happy smiles!! Did you join the LDS church after leaving the FLDS?
Thank you so much! Yes, I was baptized a member of the LDS church about a year after leaving the FLDS.
I am 41 years old and I really don't know how to swim
Hi there from Oklahoma 💜💜 💜💜💜💜
My husband can’t swim his mom his terrified of water so never took them to swimming places! My husband likes to say he’s a good wader!

That sounds horrible wearing all those layers of clothing in summer, you all must have sweltered.
It was definitely one of those things that you don't realize until you leave and then you wear shorts and it's like whoa! haha What have I been missing my whole life! haha =)
But they wouldn't have known any different growing up that's all they knew was to wear those clothes
Can you explain more about the waters being controlled by satan?
This is a great question for a video! We added it to the list! =)

So interesting! Thank you for sharing!
A friend of mine drowned at a water park(got sucked into the open drain hole )

Why does he look like he is wearing blush? Is it just me?
Did you say why he loved poligimy?
