Outrunning a STORM! 1,100 mile sail to the SEYCHELLES! - Outside Watch Vlog#9

- Better late than never! In this video we go back to May 2021 in the Chagos archipelago and set sail for the Seychelles over 1,100 nautical miles to the west. Our mooring permit (illegal to overstay) for Chagos was set to expire in a few days however, a large low-pressure system started developing to the west along our route. We are tasked with difficult decision making in determining whether or not it was safe to make the trip. Ultimately, with the help of experienced weather routers, we make the go decision and manage to outrun a potential threat.
We’re now 2/3 of the way across the Indian Ocean. It looks like the Seychelles will be our home for the next little while given the current situation of the world, working constraints, seasons, etc.... Regardless, we are really looking forward to getting to really know and explore this beautiful small island nation!

Funny video) Thanks for the pleasure!
Chris - we met at the Blue bar a few weeks ago in Aruba (Renaissance Wind). I was the guy on my honeymoon. Been watching all your adventures and they are incredible! Cheers!
I remember! Glad you found the channel😂 Congrats you and your wife!
Great channel. Best of luck. I was stationed on Diego Garcia many years ago. That BIOT area is awesome.
Thank you! It’s a beautiful area!
Just discovered your vlog and binge watched it - fantastic channel and boat. Please keep your videos coming.
Thank you! There will be more soon!
Welcome, welcome to the Seychelles… I was hoping for a new episode and you didn’t disappoint. Love your channel. 👍
Glad to hear you enjoy it!
I really miss sailing. So glad you two are moving forward with all the problems! All the best to you both!
Thank you!! Soon you will be back on Aquarius sailing across the Indian…so many beautiful places to visit, and we can’t wait to see your videos of it!
I have spent time in the Seychelles. It's paradise!
Yes it is!
Hi Chris and Jen, Glad you made to the Seychelles.Only the other day i was thinking about you two as i hadn't heard anything. So i rewatched your vlog of Skylark. Best vlog ever of a intro into any yacht. I should tell you that about half of Aus is lockdown again. Delta is ruining NSW. Victoria is holding it's own and winning. Brisbane is looking good. Stay safe and take care. Best wishes Chris.
Thank you Chris! Great to hear from you. Hope you are keeping well!!
Fantastic episode, you guys just get better and better at the production!
thanks Russ! hope you are doing well!
Amazing video so happy you arrived safely and hope no damage to the transmission!
So far so good!
One Beautiful Island!
Sailing is fun! 🎉 ⛵
I missed you a lot. Cheers from Brasil
Your videos are coming along really well! I just had an issue with audio, specifically volume.
I agree. I can barely hear Chris when he talks. Other than that it's amazing and looks so fun!!
Did you allow around 0.5” movement in the belt when you fitted it? You could have possibly over tightened it, or had too much slack, that causes wear!
Hi
Would be nice if you could comment if you are happy with the boat. Pros and cons. Is your solar setup enough etc.
Hi! Thank you! We love Skylark and are very happy. It’s the ideal cruising boat for a couple and has many nice features. Our solar panels generally provide enough power for our needs, however, we sometimes wish we had lithium batteries and a bigger inverter so we could run more systems off the batteries without running the generator. You can check out all of the features here! www.outsidewatch.com/about-skylark
Have you had any problems with staysail furler? I have read that they are underpowered for a 54 but did not know if that was just for Genoa or for staysail too.
No we havnt had any major problems with either. You definitely need to depower the sail in order for it to be able to furl in.
Funny how Amels make that same gnrrrr gnrrrr sound like at 11:10 mark
Yeah! I’ve been trying to determine exactly where it’s coming from. Seems to be something on the mizzen boom.
@@OutsideWatch-Skylark Delos and few other Amels make the exact same sound…wouldn’t be too bothered tracing it down think it’s kinda yoga relax all is well sound
Just watched a video for Amel 60 and could hear same sound coming from the boom as it swayed back and forth.
Nice one. 👍
If your still hanging out with Time Bandit, say hi from us on "Popeye" our Amel Maramu. We hung out with them in Tasmania. 👍🍻🇦🇺
@sailingpopeye
Next time we see them we will let them know you say hello!
Typical pilot ,read back correct we have information anchorage 😆 🤣 😂
Guilty... 🤣🤣
you guys are so flat....just a bit dull. you are sailing in the most amazing places but treat it like you are going to the supermarket.
Haha thank you for your comment and contributing to RUclipss algorithm😂
Their content is original and not fake like a lot of these sailing channels. At least they dont pretend .
Just to be clear, I give constructive criticism is because I want you to be successful. There are many things to like about your channel. So I'm glad that my comment will benefit you, even if you shun the minor advice from a viewer@@OutsideWatch-Skylark
@@alexrademeyer I'm sure you are right Alex, but there is nothing wrong with conveying emotion over the camera, which doesn't always get picked up. You call it fake, I consider it to be giving a fuller picture of the story, but there is a line that can be crossed and its just silly behaviour.
Thank you James for your good intentions. Sorry, we thought you were saying something negative about our personalities and didn’t realize you were trying to be constructive. We try the best to be ourselves, but still getting used to the camera 🤣 To be honest though, going to a supermarket can be quite exciting depending on where it’s at, so if you spot us at a supermarket you might not think we are so dull as we spot a new hot sauce or perfect limes for our margaritas 🤣
