Any idea why after wiring a whole new harness on a 110cc coolster the starter will start cranking on its own when connecting battery terminal without touching start switch or even being on on position?? And of coarse it doesn't actually start or have spark
I like that machine. That stick shifter would have to go! Lol! Hope we get to go for a ride on it too. It just wants to be whole again and I know you feel the tug to make it that way. Have a great day!

Great video was very helpful to me troubleshooting. An idea for you if you want to use the cdi with built in advance curve just lock the mechanical advance and set your base timing somewhere that would be reasonable for total timing with the cdi built in advance
I have a 1982 Honda big red 200 with no spark .When trying to buy a new 6 pin CDI box ,I couldn't find one for1982 just 83 and and would one from 83 be compatible as long as it's a 200

If your coil is new, sparkplug is new, pulse generator and advance sparker is working, stator is working, and when i was probing the connector to the cdi box electricity is going into it but im not getting a spark. So is my cdi box bad? BTW my 3 wheeler is a 1984 200x and it has 2 connectors for the cdi box.

The primary coil has been replaced, stator & trigger, cdi, spark plug, rectifier since it ohm'd out bad and now I have a new ignition switch due to arrive. I've removed & reinstalled the wiring harness since I couldn't find any obvious issue with it.
hi Harvey I have a 88 Honda fourtrax 300 4x4 I replaced the stator and pulse generator do to no spark it ran great for a couple days after now I have the same issue no spark I didn't replace the gasket witch I think is bad I was wondering what u think if a bad gasket will cause that to get no spark I can replace the stator generator again but need to figure out why this is happening any input will be greatly appreciated ty very much

Thanks for all your vids I watch them every time I have problems with the trike. I have a 1984 200s no spark right now. With my amp meter I have prower coming out until I bolt it up to the frame ?? Puzzled... going to do your tests and See what happens
So I tried doing doing that with the plug and it’s just spark intermittently and will fire right up but then dies after like 30 seconds and the thing is it ran awesome just a month ago before I put one of those junk carbs on it and once it’s running it’s like every few pulls it will start it’s driving me nuts
Hey James, I think I was given the wrong CDI for the ATC200, it is too big, I'm thinking it is off an ATC125 as there were a load of spares from one mixed in with the deal.... I marked it and will hold on to it for now.... The contacts looked ok, there was a lot of contact grease on all the connectors.... Thanks for Ur thoughts, suggestions, watching, and commenting!!!
Harvey, Great video, Do you know when Honda went to the cdi system, and gave up on points ? I kinda like the shift stick, but in the rough, I wonder if it will have enough leverage to shift it's self? Just curious!! Hope you ride it once with the shifter and let us know how it was. GOOD TIMES!!!
Hey Bro!!!! The old ATC70s and ATC90s had points, I think the ATC185 ant atc200 came out with CDI in 1980.... So, it is more model related, when the new models came out around 1980, they came out with CDI, the stick shift is in the way of my leg position, it may need to be re bent into a better place.... That's why i buy the cdi box with the adujustable advance when i get the cheap Chinese ones you can tune the advance on the box to match the engines timing needs.....some times you can put those cdi boxes in an oven on a low temp and bring them back to life had pretty good success with the old yamaha cdi boxes that didnt work.....but i ive never bake a plastic in cased one like the hondas
I got power out of the magneto but nothin in the plug coil. Not shore if its the Chinese CDI i got for my 84 200es but tryin to see ( have 83 200e cdi that works if i could rig that up) thanks

Hi Harvey, Maybe the terminals on the old CDI are tarnished and need to be cleaned up just like on a commutator that tarnishes from non use?
