Went to srilanka in 2020 and felt like it might become the next bali eventually. Such a beautiful place and great vibe. Just needs a little better infrastructure for serious digital nomads looking to work online. I think we are going to give it a shot again this year 😬 awesome video

In Sri lanka we mostly eat rice and curry. U can can have it even every day as we do, changing curries. But normally when having rice and curries u have to eat with your hand for the best taste, otherwise it wouldn't mix properly.
Hey Joos, the beach, food and venues you went to looked absolutely epic. Your video quality really does it justice ie: A1. Just to be clear, when you quote prices, is that USD, or other?
Hey Joose, nice video! I’m looking forward to start my digital nomad journey in Asia soon and being a vegan myself, I was wondering which are the best destinations for vegan digital nomads that want to stay there long term (maybe a new video idea?) The more affordable the better of course but I would also enjoy a decent degree of general cleanliness (trash and party bros filled places aren’t really my thing) and being surrounded by nature. Got any suggestions?
Thanks! Canggu & Ubud are the best for vegan food. Canggu might have too much trash and party bros for your liking but it would be okay if you stay in Pererenan area😂 Ubud doesn't have ocean.. but lots of nature. Da Nang is good for foor and very affordable but not so much nature other than beach. Koh Phangan has amazing vibe and nature, and good vegan food options too!
There are many places in sri lanka according to your requirements. There are thousands of options for vegan foods here. If u like more nature you can go to up country sides like kandy , riversten and many
Mirissa is really one small pocket and beach in Sri Lanka… this is not Sri Lanka.. internet is really good throughout Sri Lanka and getting a sim is really easy and cheap. I just feel this video isn’t a true reflection of Sri Lanka :) the reason accomodation and food is expensive at the moment is because it’s in economic recovery and huge inflation. But this is not the norm. This and last year have been the worst in terms of price. Sri Lankan food IS vegan and vegetarian :) so best to eat the local food. We aren’t the biggest meat eaters. The best seafood and Mirissa has great fresh fish caught straight from the fishermen. So I would definitely change this to a video about Mirissa :)
Thanks Joose for the great video. From your videos, I see that you always drive a scooter in different countries, may I know do you need an international license to drive in Sri Lanka? Or the law enforcement there is relatively loose for expats driving scooter?
Thank you! I personally have an international driving licence but it has never been needed to rent a scooter and only in Bali, 3 times it was asked by police during these couple of years😊 I'd say just get if you can just in case!
Prices are yes too high when you stay in a touristy area. But the prices are pretty affordable and quite ok for Sri Lankans as well. It ain't crazy expensive. It is regular price. Other fact is Sri Lanka cuisines are one of the most vibrant cuisines and if you feel boring it is upto the place you stay. Saying it is boring while eating a western dish ain't that fair for Sri Lankan cuisine.
@JooseTheNomad Seems like you had a bad experience though. Sorry for the inconvenience though. Hope things will get more refreshing next time. Don't always go to South but try the Central Highlands, Northern Ancient Kingdom and Eastern Beaches with Jaffna in North. You would feel so much different
@@JooseTheNomad it's a bit further east than where you were. Maybe an hour and a half drive. Very natural. Peaceful. Lots of cafes and good food. Coworking spaces. Chill vibe. Amazing beaches. Defo recommended for next time you go
Sri Lanka is very beautiful and cool, but it seems more expensive than SE Asia and the wifi is not as good. It doesn't seem to have changed much since I spent a month there in 2012. Maybe farther down the list of places for digital nomads.
800 for food and 900 for rent - jesus you are either being ripped off! The visa situation you explain badly as although you can get the extension on line you still have to go up to Colombo to get it rubber stamped!
@JooseTheNomad oh dear that's not good. I live mainly in uk and vegan food choices are brilliant even in restaurants now.. not your usual tomatoes pasta...only...
I don't really like Sri Lanka compared to South-East-Asia. Food and people are not my cup of tea. Feels a bit "lifeless" to me. No street food markets. The coast is also so busy and not really peaceful with the main road running all along it just behind the beaches.
