#MarkKnopfler
I've been playing LP's and Strats for years and the closest I'll get to Knopfler is his hair style.
Oh haha 😂😂😂. That cracked me up
It's a good start, so half job done. Keep pressing on.
Great call. I identify with that!
😂🤣
too funny..im sure your a good guitarist as well.
I've never seen Mark look so happy. That guy deserves a signature series more than anyone I can think of. Definitely one of the most underrated players in my lifetime.
If Chet thought he was the best player he ever saw, that 's good enough for me........
@@mrkkitsonyeah, really
Another guitar that I'll never be able to afford! Thanks Gibson!
Sure you can. You can finance it, you know, like your house, a 30 year mortgage.
You got that right!!
lol I hear ya. But I take it your either not a musician Ray, or you're a very successful one. 'Cause when you walk into a bank as a musician (even with a deal) asking for finance, you may as well be walking in off the doll to these guys.
"So your next pay check is when?" ; )
I was being ironic
I know, that's why I "winked". ; )
You gotta' love Mark Knopfler. What a class act.
Lovely bloke
Well said.
Such a gentle, humble down to earth guy. Man , I just love Mark!
What a pity that all of these will be bought by various collectors, remain in the case and never get played for the next 50 years.
Not really a pity because at least these guitars exist, Without the lawyers and doctors who buy these guitars to hang on their walls they wouldn't exist, One or two may make it down to players in the future
"Collector" is just another word for "jackas$ with more money than brains."
Or ever...
Most probably get played. Lots of people with high incomes play as a hobby. They may not play as well as a working musician, but they still enjoy playing, and treasure their instruments. Nothing wrong with that.
Case queens are a sad plague upon this earth
“There’s nothin wrong with waitin for the good things in life”. Well said.

Atharva Dhekne beat me to it, I never thought I'd her the knopf say that haha
Lol
AMAZING SALESMAN!!
Mr Knopfler - sheer genius, thank you for all your music, songs and brilliance.
Back in 2003 my luthier wordlessly handed me a les paul he had in for a refret job. I played smells like teen spirit on it. It was a 58. Still recovering.
right out of the box? I just bought one and I sounded nothing like Mark Knopfler I want my money back damn it. Oh wait....it's cuz I suck. Nevermind
I managed to snag a guitar straight from the guitarist of my favorite band and sadly faced the same realization when I plugged it in... It'll look great hanging on my wall for all eternity though.
Dale daddy Did you get your...Money for Nothing?....i'll show myself out
Haras Boy haha..these are beautiful guitars but a little out of my price range. I love to watch him play though.
the Stump Good advice.
the Stump haha...one of favorite movies. I have a picture of Derek smalls in my jam space.classic
It's cool when mark smiles
"Brothers in Arms" defines his Les Paul tone.
Absolutely.
"There is nothing wrong with waiting for the good things in life!" Truer words have not been spoken before or since.
what a beautiful character knopfler has, he is a great person
..yes, agree..peaceful, humble...still not impressed with his riffs...
Robert Allen who needs roffs when you can solo like that
This comment leaves me speechless. Some of the greatest riffs and solos ever. Inspiring for any guitarist. You can hear the passion when he talks about guitars, love it!
Derek Cain such a genius, forget about his brilliant guitar playing, his song writing and the lyrics he comes up with are pure genius
1:58 is hilarious, absolutely love it. Mark is just like a kid with his favorite toys, can't blame him, a true guitarist at heart!!!
"And I used it on a recording session almost immediatly". Good to know there will be a Les Paul on the new album. :-) My favourite MK songs are usually on a Les Paul. Hill Framer Blues, Brothers In Arms, Speedway At Nazareth, Money For Nothing....
For being one of the greatest guitar players of all time he is so humble.
One of only a handful that got a signature Les Paul, and Stratocaster. That says it all right there....
And a Signature Martin acoustic.
Just got a Les Paul. Like Mark I wanted one since I was a youngster. I remember looking at guitars through the window of McCormack’s Music in Glasgow. At the time they seemed like interstellar, unreachable objects of desire. Getting one was impossible. Decades later it is much more than a guitar to me. It encompasses so many memories from childhood and adolescence; learning chords from my Dad on a cheap acoustic; replaying records over and over; day dreaming looking at guitar catalogues imagining a time in the future when I’d buy my dream guitar and take it home.
Les Pauls are great guitars. I love that sound in Brothers in Arms, Money for Nothing etc..., but if you really want to hear the most beautiful guitar sound ever just listen to Dire Straits and Communique, when Mark was using his Fiesta Red Stratocasters (and they weren't $10.000 guitars).
CICCOS BLUES they certainly are now ;)
I put an American neck on a Roadhouse body with an S1 switch and it produces a sound just like those recordings (I can't play anywhere as well as him but at least I can duplicate the tone he has)
Strat = dire straits
Les paul = knopfler solo
@nineball26 Spelling issue there sir lol
get your hands on a vintage Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer Electra Guitars sound module. Grab any off the shelf 60s style Strat. Dire Straits era Knopfler tone. You're Welcome
literally one of my favorite guitarists
Back to the 58'...
Thanks Mister KNOFLER..!!!
The Les Paul is a beautiful design. A real work of art. No other guitar comes close.
What's changed still can't afford one and I'm 70
murraysanders7779 make the most out of your life. If you have always wanted one you should get one!
you should get one...you deserve it.
murraysanders7779 hurry up before all the Japanese bankers buy them up and put 'em in bank vaults
murraysanders7779 please send me 1000000000 trillion pounds
Mark writes riffs that are just hauntingly beatiful
Gibson '58 Les Paul deserved Mark Knopfler's Signature
Good on ya Mark, he grew up too poor to afford a Gibson, now he is a big shot, he is helping to make the new Gibsons more un-affordable to up and comers.
Nice going Mark!
Knophler is well know for his clean strat when most people were getting famous in the rock world with Les Paul's maxed out with ridiculous effects. He was a breath of fresh air.
My brother succeed Les Paul Custom Black '68 from our grandpa, who bought this guitar in 1968, when he was playing in his band.
its amazing guitar with awesome sound......
Mark Knopfler, Top world class musician and guitarist, Front man for mega band Dire Straits, and just this modest ordinary guy from Newcastle. What a nice bloke!🎸
Of course these guitars are certainly amazing!!! And the sound is really awesome!!!
My Boy Mark JUST HIT THE INTERVIEWER WITH THAT YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHH BOIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
The magic of Mr Mark Knopfler
I love that Guy he is my inspiration to be better even if just a little. Thanks Mark.
2:00 definition of guitar heaven
"There is nothing wrong with waiting for the good things in life." Mark Knopfler.
I luv ihe tones that Mark gets from his Les PAUL he gets the best out of every guit that he touches i have been playing +collecting guits all my life totally admire this Man.
mind as well put this into the category of taking a day trip to Mars...for me, Ain't Gonna Happen
Mark, we still love you, bro!!!
So much beauty in one room!
I have a 1980 wine red custom I got used for $350...plays great still!!
Mark, You're the BEST!!! Man, I sure wish I could afford one. The closest Guitar I've ever owned was a 67 LES PAUL JR SG model. Now that I'm pretty old, I no longer own a GREAT GUITAR like a GIBBY or Fender. I always wondered what a reissue would feel or Sound like......but I've got to say that YOUR'S looks and sounds EXCELLENT! Anyways LOVE YOU MAN, and Thank you so much for posting this GEM.....ALOHA FROM MAUI 🎸💚
No one has earned the right to own a Gibson Les Paul like Mark Knophler.
I bought m y first Gibson Les Paul at age of 72 I am really enjoying it.
Mark Knopfler is definitely the greatest guitarist to come out of the U.K. I never used my fingers to play guitar but I watched an old Dire Straits concert my dad had a video tape and instantly thought wow, I want to be able to use my fingers to play my guitar like that but better. I have been using my fingers to play but no where near as good as I want to be. Thank you to Mark Knopfler for being such an influential musician not just to me but to everyone else as well.
Tim G love this comment! He's so underrated in my opinion
Hmm..."definitely the greatest guitarist to come out of the U.K" ? There would be more than a few contenders for that title so it's really just a matter of opinion based on the style(s) you prefer. Some folks might say Jeff Beck or Allan Holdsworth or any number of other masters. My vote would be for John McLaughlin. I saw him again in December on what was billed as his final U.S. tour (sad to say). I feel fortunate to have seen him seven times, starting in 1972
callmejeffbob don’t forget about clapton
Tim G ‘Definitely the best to come out of the UK’......wow what a sweeping statement. Page, Beck, Gilmour, Clapton.....etc. etc etc may disagree.
Never heard of Peter Green then ?
wow, what a guitar, what a sound. MK used it already on stage couple of weeks ago in Playtime Deluxe. amazing sound
I'm not giving up my '68 Deluxe...it was one of the first sunburst produced of the Deluxes, amazing sustain (it should it weighs a ton) and I've had it for the last 40 years.
A work of Art.
I love his particular Brit accent. I've heard many. He's a good man!
I was LUCKY. I had been looking for an outstanding Les Paul for a long time. I found a Tom Murphy aged goldtop and that was excellent but didn't pull the trigger. Then on the same day I found a Mark Knofphler LP - one of the above - and a 1958 replica - a R8 in London. I played them both through a 1960s Fender Twin and a JTM 45 - Well I can tell you the R8 sounded and felt just as good so I bought the R8. So...the Custom Shop Les Pauls can be truly great guitars - you just gotta try a bunch of them!
Nice.. I love how that fender sounded recording Sultans
This guitar is a dream!!!!! Fantastic!!!!
If Mark is that humble and kind, I can’t wait to meet Jesus🙏
Gorgeous Guitar.
Gorgeous
Why is this in my feed two years later?? Still, its very cool!
Really cool, makes you want to play that guitar!
I'm living my dream. 2003 Les Paul Standard and 1986 Fender 56 reissue Telecaster. Between those two I've can get all the sounds I want. But, I've got to say that when it comes to Gibson's, they're also like a piece of fine art.
beautiful guitar!! pretty sure that Mark Knopfler would make any fisher price guitar sound fantastic though :)
what a beautiful guitar
That painting on the wall was used for the Kill To Get Crimson cover art.
Funny thing , when he started using a Les Paul (on Brothers in Arms ) he liked the tone so much he put it thru a ProCo Rat , the dirtiest fuzz-box on the market at the time . Never had to do that before with his "old" guitars .
I've never heard of him using a Rat, have you got a link to that info?
I'm probably about 3 days away from getting a Gibson Les Paul. Finally, after 27 years my dream comes true! :-) It won't be this MK '58 signature guitar or a (True) Historic '58 or '59 though, which is the ultimate dream. But since my budget is around 2000 euros. Will try to get me the best sounding LP I can get for that money.
I bought the Mark Farner Sears Silvertone re-issue. Trade ya?
your a great person mark
Les Paul Heaven!
You couldn't afford this guitar growing up so why not keep up that tradition eh
I agree with that comment. Yamaha acoustics and Washburns took me through a lot, so why should i ever pick up Martins? lol
oboyy The irony!
What's your profile pic from?
@@bassinblue Couldn't agree more mate, mine was a Crafter
True mate, mine was Korean Squire Strats lol
Mark you are awesome. Love your music 👌
Now, if we were graced with an Epiphone version of this, I’d buy one. Seriously.
Wauw, it's like my dreams. Great guitar I'm obsessed'' Waiting for the good things in life is inspired!
Two thumbs up Mark! Keep on rockin in the free world - for now anyway!
I’ve always wanted a Les Paul and a SG so bad I’m 25 and got a Epiphone SG was the last thing I ever got from my dad he passed in 2020 I miss him every time I try to play it.
An authentic 1958 Gibson standard burst can/will sell for over $300,000!!!! Most valuable year and model of electric guitar to date.
And a better investment than real estate in most areas!
Perfect guitar!
With all those Les Pauls gathered in one spot, you could call this video "Orphan Sunburst."
He's like a gardener talking about shrubs and flowers! I know his signature sound is the Strat but from 1986 onwards he was using Pensa Suhr, which I never really liked and the clean tone was gone for a while. Then again it all started to change on Brothers In Arms. There not a lot of clean on that at all. 'So Far Away', Walk Of Life don't actually have solos like his older songs. 'Money For Nothing', 'One World', 'Ride Across The River' and 'Brothers In Arms' are distorted solos. 'The Mans Too Strong' is acoustic and synth, 'Your Latest Trick' has overdriven, distant guitar after the intro and 'Why Worry' is the only clean track with the extended solo on the CD only and not the original LP. So there, the clean seems to have been less important in the mid 80s and 90s.
"There's nothing wrong with waiting for the good things in life" damm
58...that's the magic number!
Wow! look at all those 58's, they should be in homes! I can take care of one for you!
HERMOSA GUITARRA MARK, GRAN GUITARRISTA Y ROCKERO. UN ABRAZO DESDE ARGENTINA.
My God!!!!!! Where is this place??? Going there, one has to have no less than $10,000 in his pocket. Beautiful, beautiful instruments.

I'll get my coat.
Mark is Great!! Great Guitar!! Woof!!!
I want your babies, Mark! Such a cool guy and iconic musician, not just as a guitarist, but as a singer, songwriter and lyricist.
in 1978 he played a red fender strat with a black knob because the control was lost or something apparently it was a japanese strat then in the 80s he played with schecter and then with les paul for brothers in arms mark knopfler a genius
Yes, for all the earlier pre Brothers numbers he had to make do with a bunch of old Strats - tough job but somebody had to do it! I sold my LP '58 re-issue (which cost an arm and a leg) to pay for my Wife's blown car engine. However I was never happy with it, the tone wasn't that special, it was too sensitive to temperature change and way too heavy for me. Not being a millionaire I was forced to replace it with a Chibson. After throwing the original electrics, hardware, plastics and a good set up it looks just superb. It stays in tune, super light weight (in spite of having a 1 pc body and neck) and sounds/plays as good as any LP I've ever heard. Of course it lacks the great man's signature, but I have that on one of my Strats and I'm more than happy with that!
the thumbnail for this video is priceless...it's like a guitar version of Despicable Me 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 #minions
i was born in 58. i have a 2016 Les Paul Gibson carribean night color is awesome
Born in '58 and you are 58 ;)
