I had a talk with my esports org and even friends about how the "CoD player" is a pretty unvarious and segmented market before. It's amazing how I've heard my friends, who are big into the CWL, talk about certain elements in the CoD economy or aspect in the esports or game that has been commonplace in most other popular esports, but they see it as innovation. It's similar to talking to iphone fans when you use an android.
Yet, as you mention, they are such a LARGE community.
I was flabbergasted when so many CoD creators and players got awards in the esports awards, because there were names there that people that don't even watch certain esports would recognize them from. But most of the chat (CoD kids) were spamming their "???" and then cheered when their favourite player that *no non-cod fan* knew about got the win. It's such a unique case of detachment in the industry

As a self proclaimed call of duty dude, there are two further identifiable subsets of us dudes. Those that do cross over into other games, like battlefield, halo, and other genres, and the guys that are your average sports wannabe chad on cod, who only play 2k and madden otherwise.
Who's better? Idk, the irl athletes are freaky good sometimes, but then they don't know how to put perks on a class or somethin. Gamer/cod dudes are often the type that say "i just mess around and don't take it seriously" because they're afraid of being called a cod bro. Then you have gamer/cod dudes like me who like other games but unabashedly loved that cod grind baby (keyword: loved).
