Otto is probably my most favorite villain ever written, you can see yourself rooting for him in the end, for him to save her.
I’ll always hate him as a villain but I love him as well due to how well written he is as a villain.
@@thegammingbolaschannel7529 I dunno I personally just can´t get invested in him no matter how well written he is. Everytime I saw him after I learned what his ultimate goal is he just kind of bored me. His goal as "noble" as it is is just stupid to me. Attitude and emotionlessness also didn´t help much, which I know they are kind of the point and pais off right here so close to reaching his goal where every frame shows him with emotion.
The only interesting thing I can see stemming from him is the parrallel you can draw between him and Mei. Both would sacrifice literally everything if it meant saving a special person their lives.
tl;dr He brings some interesting stuff to the table but ultimately he is not my kind of antagonist mostly because of his goal.

I've always viewed him as similar to where Mei seemed to be heading for a while (before flame scion).

@@Airier There are definitely some parrallels you can draw between Otto and Mei. Both would sacrifice literally everything to save a special person in theyr lives. To me that is also the most interesting point Otto brings to the table. I just can´t get invested in him no matter how hard I try. His ultimate goal of rescueing/reviving Kallen just doesn´t cut it for me so no matter what he does as long as it is for that cause he just bores me.

Otto's so brilliantly written.
In this moment, you find yourself rooting for him - because everything he's done, all the sins he's stained his hands with - it was all for this one moment, and he can't fail here or else it would all have been for nothing.
Thus, when he falls, you genuinely want him to get back up.
His entire arc, everything he's done - it all culminates in this moment. He willingly chose to play the villain the entire time for this one chance.
He's been such a big part of Honkai's story and it's gonna feel emptier without him.

As for Otto ability, he has the Void Archive, made from the first Herscher, Herscher of Reason, capable of reproducing anything if you understand its component and how it all fits together. Though if I understand it correctly, it can only reproduce things using soulium, so if the weapon use more advance material or more complex than he can comprehend then he can't make a proper copy
Is Otto an emiya or something? Cause that is literally the basis of how the unlimited blade works well, works right down to its limitations. Combined with the whole chasing after the whole ideal hero saber/Kallen across space and time, and Otto is pretty much an evil version of fate route shirou.
That doesn’t seem correct. Otto has the Void Archives since childhood, over 500 years ago. VA is the antithesis to the Black Box which corrupted its users with Honkai energy. Both are from the previous era if I recall correctly, though I can’t remember their origins off the top of my head.
Otto has Void Archive... the 1st Divine Key from the 1st Herrscher of the previous era. It has abilities to mimic all divine keys.
@@gamerwolfKO no the black box was just something to seal the 12th herrscher, the heerscher of corruption in, and they couldn't make her into a divine key because her conciousmess was still resisting. Void archives is made from the core of the previous era's herrscher of reason and contains an archive of all the knowledge of the previous era, and it can use the power of the herrschet of reason to mimic other divine keys although it will be much weaker then the real divine keys. It also contains prometheus, a super ai from the previous era (which correctly predicted the 14th final herrscher would destroy the world) and has a will of it's own.

To sum it out, Kallen died because of humanity malice and Otto consider himself as tool that executioned her. Now his one only wish, obsession, goal, or whatever his end is, is for Kallen to live her life and die in peace

You should read the Kallen's manga and Second Eruption manga to understand somethings that appear in this cinematic. There are so many things in it.

To how he changed after seeing Teri teri suffer, and the hope he got from Kiana, and lastly, the scene of him going to the imaginary tree at the end, ending his life and everything

there WERE English subtitles. They explain...a l o t from what I saw up to now.
I will say mostly about the Tree - it's the Imaginary Tree or Yggdrasil. The main reality concept of Honkai AND Genshin because they are in the same multiuniverse. It's like the root of all worlds and basically the form of reality itself. Every branch is a path of civilization, each leaf is a world. Honkai and Genshin are connected, Honkai players know this for sure because... Well, you will see it yourself on the Otto's monitor in chapter 17. There's also Sea of Quanta, the space between branches where worlds born from the Tree rot and disappear.
And he saved his Kallen by returning in their past. For real. And created another branch on the Tree for her, separating her from his world's branch.
Also your lore knowledge a bit messy, you really need to read all mangas and all Chronicles. You can google the right order to read them. There's also visual novels about Anti-Entropy and Durandal.
Wait, isn't the imaginary tree called Irminsul? Or did I confused it with something from Genshin lore?

For clarification he went back in time and saved Kallen thus creating an alternate timeline where she never died and yes he died
Reverse order. He made the alternate timeline via the tree first then went back to prevent her death.

This is what happens when you work with limited information.
Kallen was originally executed for "treason". The Honkai beast that stabs her literally materialized because of what Otto was doing in Imaginary Space. Originally Kallen allowed herself to be executed because she had lost the will to live - for the reason play Sakura Samsara (or find a playthrough video of it). Otto's desire to save her is still entirely selfish - he is ignoring the fact she chose to allow the execution to happen. What Otto does here is he's creating a branching timeline in which Kallen was not executed.
The tree is known as the Imaginary Tree and is the backbone of the Honkai multiverse. Different universes appear on the tree as leaves. One of those leaves is Genshin - we've know this since the closing CG of chapter 17 where what of the images that leak from imaginary space and is observed by Otto is Fallen Rosemary Rita and the other one is Dvalin. Dvalin is in fact the FAR less ambiguous image in that moment (Rita is almost entirely a silhouette). So the multiversal connection between the two games has been clearly confirmed for a while now.
The reason he's able to use multiple divine keys is that he is actually using copies. Otto has possession of the Void Archives, a Divine Key made from the core of PE's First Herrscher. It grants him powers very similar to those of the Herrscher of Reason with some limitations.
Lastly if you really need a reminder why you should still despise Otto here's some - He OK's and probably designed the deadly experiments performed on CHILDREN the resulted in Sirin's awakening. Said awakening wrecked all of Siberia and probably a lot of neighboring territories as well. It also resulted in Shiksal throwing well over a hundred Valks at HoV only for them all to die, something that undoubtedly weakened the organization and reduced it's ability to respond to Honkai crises for years after. Sixteen years later Otto INTENTIONALLY revived HoV, resulting in an even bigger Impact event with Global effects - best case scenario this caused the loos of tens of millions of lives, to say nothing about the more personal cost to us as players since it also ruined the lives the main cast was in the process of building for themselves. It led directly to Himeko's death. I could go on but I would be here all day and RUclips comments don't allow for a post as long as I would need.
No the beast was released by past Otto.
Just a tip, when correcting someone, check your information as well. The Honkai Beast that killed Kallen did not materialize because of Otto's actions in Imaginary Space, but instead was freed by Otto from the past who was tricked by his sister, he freed several Honkai Beasts to try to escape there with Kallen, but she denied and slapped Otto, disappointed with what he did, and stayed to fight alone with the Honkai Beasts and save the people who were there, and it was during this fight that she died, in the same situation presented in the video.

My understanding is this, Otto created a new branch (bubble universe) where current era Otto (our Otto) sacrificed himself to save Kallen allowing her to live on in a new future separate from ours with K423 and the gang.
And it's also a bubble universe where it's Otto never lost Kallen.
I am pretty sure a bubble universe is different than a new universe, but i dont remember at 100%. A bubble universe are only fragments of memories in the sea of quanta.
No, Otto created a completely stable new universe, where Kallen never died. Universal bubbles are just memories of certain universes that came to an end and wander in the sea of Quanta, something like the place where Eden was if I'm not mistaken and if I'm not confusing Eden with someone else. Otto is the one who most believe the love power, and after so many tests, knowing the secret of honkai world, saw the experience of how kiana got saved and save others, finally he know how to save kallen. you may have deja vu of this and other cg (final lesson/rubia/flamescion) as otto is just trying to use the most possible way to succeed.

Just so people don't get confused: that was not Otto Stabbing himself with a knife; That was the WIll of Honkai showing Otto what was actually necessary to save Kallen. It was a scene pulled right out of the comic, as were most of the flashbacks they used.
That's a man on a mission. He fought for what was beautiful for him. Mission complete Otto. You fought and won.

Lemme clear things up, love isn’t all there is to it, yes, they were once lover and yes they knew each other from they were young, but the main was because Kallen is basically his only friend and the only one that believe in him for his belief to be an inventor, she would approach him and let him out of his cage, giving him freedom for the first time since he is seen to be a weak boy that’s unable to lead the Apocalypse family, he’s willingly to go that far is because he felt responsible for Kallen’s death for treason by the Kaslana family, which the problem also related to Otto, Otto knew Kallen was gonna get executed so Otto release a honkai beast to attack the city just so that Kallen could escape, but his plan backstabbed him since Kallen decided to help the city, he felt responsible.
What he has done here is creating a new bubble universe that Kallen is alive, one of his words explains it when he touches the tree, essentially he is giving his life for her because the reason she lost her life was because of him, he didn’t bring her back to life to meet her again or to live together with her, but to give her a long living chance, he doesn’t have to meet her, the thought of her being alive is enough for him.

Small correction - it's not a bubble universe.
He created a completely new branch (or you can say a stable universe) that's free from the trials for WoH. (note that honkai still exists in this branch, but it's only free from the trials)
Bubble universe - These are universes that have fallen into the Sea of Quanta. However they can sustain themselves as they are attached to the tree via an ether anchor. However the moment the ether anchor snaps, the SoQ will consume them.
@@sukidesu9755 I wonder if Genshin is one of the worlds without trials, but khanri'ah started getting to advanced so the WoH had the archons destroy it as a way to moderate civilization and prevent the trials. And, if that's the case, could something similar be happening in the new world Kallen's in or could she be in Genshin in some way.
@@gancyr3D actually mhy already established a model where the WoH is one of the many emissaries of the tree that conducts the trials. There are other higher Entities similar to the WoH that govern their own set of branches in this higher dimension tree.
Genshinverse could be free from the trials maybe. But I think mhy plans to make Genshin have it's own higher entity and not connect it with the WoH. But I could be wrong so take it with a pinch of salt
Edit : Otto says that the WoH does not allow Kallen to live. In every timeline Kallen dies because of the WoH influence. The only way to save her was to free her and her world from the WoH. Kallen living is an indication that the new branches that Otto created is free from WoH trials. However mhy concluded this arc with just that and left everything else to our own interpretation.

Since this is Otto's final departure, i want to give him a proper closure and tribute by clearing some misconceptions. Theres quite a number of people out there that thinks hes doing all these just for Kallen's "love". Thats just not right. It started as a meme but people joined the bandwagon without context and took it seriously, spreading it like wildfire. In order to understand his motive, u have to put urself in his shoes and look at his past. This animation becomes way more emotional and meaningful if u truly understand him.
Otto was bornt and expected to be the next heir of the Apocalypse family. However, the heir was handed over to his brother cuz he was physically weak and naive as a child. Instead of exhibiting characteristics of a noble warrior and leader, he wanted to be an inventor but nobody believed in him. As an Apocalypse, he was a disgrace to the family and shunned. One day, while he was being shunned by his older brother, a girl named Kallen from the Kaslana family, helped him and believed that he would become a great inventor in the future. She was the only one who believed in him. They talked and quickly became friends. They spent a lot of time together as they grow older. Otto gained self-confidence that he isnt useless and unwanted by being around her. He even proved that he was a great inventor by inventing a cure for the Black Death disease that was running rampant in his time. This leads to him gaining the trust and respect from the public.
Some times later, he gave a present to Kallen as a token of gratitude, the Sixth Serenade. Otto really admired Kallen as his saviour. Without her, he wouldnt be where he is at now. To him, the world was a cruel place and humanity are of barbaric species but Kallen was the beacon of hope for humanity. Heroic and caring, throwing herself head first into saving people. If only humanity could be similar to Kallen he thought. Gradually, the Schicksal government eventually become corrupted, Kallen along with Otto helped the common folks by stealing from the rich and distributing it to them. The government also waged war against other nation to gain more power even when under the crisis of Honkai. Seeing this, Kallen and Otto planned a rebellion against the current government. During a battle against the other nation, Otto accompanied Kallen, who was a front-liner, as a medic despite Kallen's concerns over his health. He didnt want to seat back as a spectator and wanted to be of help. Unfortunately, they lost the battle and retreated.
Years later, the Schicksal government, under Otto's father guidance, declared that Kallen to be executed publicly due to treason. Otto was confused and begged his father if there was another way. His father told him that he would let her go if she promised to marry Otto and become an Apocalypse. This will make them gain control over the House of Kaslanas who was gaining more power than them. Otto was shocked since it was his dream but was hesitant since its not truly love. However, her safety takes priority first. When Otto told Kallen, who was in a cell, the proposal, she refused since the Kaslanas should uphold their oath and save people. Instead, she wanted to have one last drink. Otto, not accepting Kallen's injustice execution, made a deal with his sister, Risa Schariac, to free Kallen during the execution. His sister accepted the deal under the agreement that Otto will get his hands dirty as an Apocalypse who had always seat at the sidelines. During the day of the execution, Otto released Honkai Beasts into the town which distracted the guards. He freed Kallen but was slapped by her as he endangered the townspeople. She then went into town, saving them but ended up getting killed in doing so. Because of Otto and his family's doings, Kallen ended up getting killed. He felt guilty and devoted his life to find a way to revive Kallen for her to live once again without worries. He thought to himself that its natural to give his life for hers as she was the one who saved his. He purposely played as a "villain" role cuz a villain is the only way a world can truly change from his perspective. This perspective came to be due to the "evil" world taking the only "hero" which was Kallen away from the world, unfair and injustice.
He then rebelled the Schicksal government along with the people that believed in the Holy Maiden and eventually took over as the Overseer. He lost a lot of people he held dearly in the rebellion, namely the children in the orphanage like Voila. However, he became the very thing he swore to destroy. Under his rule, he uphold Schicksal under corruption for his goal. His obsession got over him. During 2nd Eruption when he met WoH, Otto wanted to strike a deal but WoH didnt deemed him as worthy and basically took a form of Otto and stabbed itself. Over the timeframe of what Otto did, WoH finally deemed him as worthy and accept the deal with Otto to help him with the connection to Imaginary Tree in chapter 25-Ex.
His sole dedication lead him from a frail young boy to what he is capable of now. He went from a hero to a "villain". He did what others couldnt. He walked on a thorny path of no return and made a deal with God itself, WoH and Void Archives. He did all these without expecting anything in return. Just like everyone else in the honkaiverse, hes part of the tragedy the world inflicted upon. Thats why i like him as a character narratively but hate/pity him as a character in the honkai universe. He represents the humans' obsession and the inability to let go.
He truly embodies the quote, "U either died a hero or live long enough to see urself become a villain".
"When the world's demise is nigh, strong desires and obsessions can make one go further. Like everyone else, I too have obsessions." - Su, the 7th Flamechaser.

The tree there is basically a visual representation of the universe's many parallel timelines. Otto have learned that he can't resurrect or remake Kallen because of the cycle of rebirth doesn't transfer the mind and Theresa is already Kallen's reincarnation. So Otto decided to create a new timeline visualized by the tree growing new branches where Kallen survived that encounter and could live her life and die on her own terms. Otto also believes that Kallen is a person who can truly make a change in the world so however that timeline ends up is ought to be interesting.
The trees in Genshin are the outsprouts of the planet's veins of magical energy. They are a different thing.

8:40 That tree is the Imaginary Tree aka the multiverse, and each branch represent a possibility with the leaves being individual universe at a specific time. Genshin IS confirmed to be one such universes around the time of its release.
It's unknown if the tree we keep seeing in Genshin is people referring to the Imaginary Tree or something inside Teyvat.

So up till the moment she almost died was his past, then everything after that is a new universe/timeline.

I literally can't think of any story where an antagonist succeeded in the Nox play, rather than getting the trope result.

Basically, he indeed went back in time (in his time) 500 years ago. This is the real Otto and real Kallen that died in original story. However, in this case Otto saved her and created a new future where Kallen and Otto of past live. Pretty much Kallen's rescue is a point where realities split: the one where she died and main characters are, the second where she lives.

If you don’t know what happened may I suggest doing a reading of the Manga? Their history is covered in the first one: Elan Palatinus (I may have misspelled it). I would recommend reactions for it, but the second manga (aptly named Second Eruption) covers the story of Kiana’s parents and Sirin’s story. It gives a lot of context to the story, and is pretty amazing. If nothing else, its incredible to see the depth of the story world outside the game.

@AirierGames Hi3 has several mangas and VNs that the animation takes shots from. Also genshin and Hi3 exist as diffrent universes on the imaginary tree and not connected beyone that.

Otto has actually tried this time and again...every clone you saw was a timeline of him that FAILED his 500 year journey to undo his mistake. (He called upon the honkai beast back then to prevent her execution...it backfired horrifically.) He's Giles De Rais meets Gendo Ikari but in a good way...oof.
Summary of this Animation:
Otto created a new branch in the imaginary where Kallen did not die, and thus giving rise to many more branches(Each representing a possible future) where she's alive. He did so in exchange for his own life.
Creating another Future/Timeline from the Past...
Declaring that he was sacrificing the world outside Kolosten was just to have Dudu and Kiana be motivated enough to kill him. In the end, he sacrificed himself rather than the world to create another world where Kallen didn't die.

Otto used the Imagination Tree to make a new parallel world, where Kallen live.
Kallen died for rebelling against Schicksal for their corruption, who led Otto's family when he was still a child and because of Otto who was the one who released the Honkai beast to avoid Kallen's death penalty, which caused the same end but with a worse effect for Otto. This was 500 years ago from the present. What Otto did was create a new timeline, where Kallen never died, that's why new branches grew on the imaginary tree.
To make you feel even sadder, Otto, I think that for using the powers of VA and the imaginary tree, it ended up merging with the latter, that's why he had those black marks with yellow stripes in the body, and by dying in this new timeline, he literally destroyed any possibility of being able to re-exist in any other timeline or universe within the entire sea of Quanta. Basically, we will never see any version of Otto again, in any other parallel/alternate universe, or in any other video game. The mere existence of Otto, ended after 500 years of work, effort, frustration, failed experiments and genocide, to save the only person who gave him some care, love and appreciation and yes, he already knew how his end would be...
Otto is the best villain. A villain will sacrifice everything just to save one important person to him. He may not worthy of forgiveness but he's worthy of respects.
Otto died at the end because he'd run out of endurance and was using a replica of Judgement of Samash, which causes the user to heat up catastrophically. He knew it was a one way trip. He didn't care.
