I love a new Apple product as much as the next person, but when it comes to iPads, you need to think long and hard before you shell out serious money for the Pro model. I'm not saying they are useless, I'm just saying you better have a reason in mind why you need all that power and screen real estate before you spend over $1,300.

Uncle Steve wouldn't tell you not to buy something...just make sure you know what you need.
"take some Advil for the FOMO" is the realest quote ever.
I use my iPad way more then my MacBook Pro
And that's great! Just depends what you are using it for.
yep its my only computer. It doesn’t do *everything* - I do have access to my wife’s macbook air for some tasks that are more convenient on a ‘real’ computer but honestly most of the time I don’t need one. I use a Macbook for work sat at a desk so I also like the mental switch away from work to home
"how fast can you possibly watch a RUclips video?" LMAO!! So good!!! Great video !!
Thanks! I appreciate it!
That’s funny!
no matter what i will use it for, the new OLED screen alone is worth the upgrade
That’s the ONLY reason I upgraded! This display is AMAZING!!! I can’t stand LCD. It’s 2024 for crying out loud! Lol
I think honestly it all comes to simply if said person can afford it or not. The iPads definitely seems to be getting more expensive each iteration but people that make well over 6k+ a month are not complaining like successful tech RUclipsrs for example. It’s definitely a discussion that should be made more especially with today’s economy.
love how you spoke so frankly, awesomely helpful
Agreed. He is straight up and doesn’t hold punches. Love it!
Great review. I agree with your perspective.
Great advice. Especially as we use our phones 90% of the time.
Yeah, I'm still trying to find the perfect use for a tablet however many years later!
I rarely pick up my phone.
I use my laptop for five minutes once every two weeks to check my payslip. My tablet is in a drawer somewhere.
Great video! Apple are masters at trying to make you think you need the latest and greatest.
I’m holding onto my 2022 12.9” M2 chip 6 gen iPad Pro. It’s more than capable for what I need. The M4 chip is so unnecessary. It’s a selling tool for Apple. The 5.1 mm thickness and OLED display is great but let’s not act like the current iPads are thick and the displays aren’t already great.
Nice watch. I like that display
Yeah. I replaced my 6th gen with a 9th gen late last year. I do use it for media consumption. Cooking videos in the kitchen, reading books on the porch and repair videos out on the carport for lawn equipment are all stuff I do with it.
I cannot imagine a use I'd have for $1k+ tablet. I won't bad talk folks that do have a use for it, I just know my limitations :)
Exactly, that's all I'm asking. Ask yourself what you're actually going to use it for and then purchase accordingly.
What if it was a Windows tablet?
@@orangeyellow-me1pz Windows has a lot of overhead for a tablet it seems to me.
If I didn't get an iPad I probably would have ended up with one of Samsung's cheaper tablets. I'm a big fan of going with something I know works well 'cause friends use them :)
@@danabell2709 You don't have to use the more advanced Windows features if you don't want to. You could just use the browser and streaming apps. The more advanced features are there should you ever need them. If a Windows tablet like the surface pro X was in the budget I'd have happily gone with that instead of my Pixel that Google paid me for by taking an iPad 9th gen off my hands. You wouldn't need a laptop either and in the case of MANY consumers, they wouldn't need a desktop. If you're savvy enough it could replace a phone as well. I just read the last part of what you said, and that's a decision I absolutely would never stand by. I'd never get something because my friend has it. I guess that's why the iPhone and iPad are so popular because in my eyes that operating system is handicapped on purpose.
I wasn’t the most excited about the new iPad Pro and new iPad Air itself. I just got excited about the price is going down on older iPads so I bought a iPad 9 with a Logitech crayon for $230 used
Not bad!
I got my 9th gen brand new for$220. I don't know how the prices for these things work.
@@orangeyellow-me1pz sure mine is used, but mine came with a Logitech crayon in those things are worth around $30
yeeessss!!!! love this video
I’m still waiting for the iPad mini with an M2
Funny. I got the 11” iPad Pro m4 and the keyboard “open boxed” and I use it mainly like a really small Chromebook. I love chromebooks, but couldn’t find one as small, as light and even as close to as fast. I also use apps like CapCut and Adobe Lightroom and Canvas. Is it way over priced? Yes, but I use it out on location all day. I even use the camera to video clients for gait analysis and I can use my finger to draw lines and notes I can send to them. Can’t imagine running my business without it. Also great for all my social media marketing. And yes RUclips.
while the tablet is often marketed as a multi-tasker, my main use case for it is gaming. I'm excited to see how M4 actually performs in gaming.
2 1/2 years on my iPad mini 6, usb-c port 256Gb. All I need or want.
I need the M4 one to watch RUclips and use snappier Safari!
Give me the best display!
Y'all are insane.
Great video the base iPad seems more than adequate for most tasks I don't understand why people are tempted by very pricey ipads when the 349 option is available new from Apple
people buy 65” OLED TVs costing thousands because they’re better for watching TV. consumption. Nothing wrong with spending on that if its important to you.
That's true, never thought about that tbh. Spent over 2 grand on my TV few years back and didn't think much about it, I want a nice screen to watch movies and TV shows
Right, but that’s your reason for buying. No one said don’t buy it. I said make sure you have a reason in mind. If that’s your reason, have at it. But a tablet isn’t a TV on the wall. Bigger isn’t always better for how we view content sitting down that is next to our face.
@@StevealiciousTech right and I’m happy with that choice. We have a mixed choice of what we watch in our house so we watch more on tablets these days probably than the TV :) so it makes sense to me to choose the best display that fits in my budget. My point is that a lot of youtube videos (not pointing fingers) downplay consumption, and focus on productivity. Most people at home don’t do that much productivity with their computers - I’d be money on mostly they browse the internet and watch videos and maybe do some occaional office suite stuff for balancing the budget or writing a shopping list etc. That perspective gets skewed with content creators emphasising workflows they are familiar with and consumers consuming that get a disproportionate view of what they ‘should’ be doing with a device.
agree with you completely - find your use case and a device that works for you with that. For me and I think many people, an ipad fits that. Apple got some ridicule for the ‘whats a computer’ ad a few years ago but I think they’re right to a degree.
@@MrKlawUK consumption isn’t downplayed. I basically say it’s one of the few reasons people use a tablet at all. My point is more the M4 engine and the price. There are tablets with gorgeous displays for half the price. If consumption is your use case, save yourself some money is the idea. If you are making people pay for power, give them a use for it.
Long comment, I'm thinking I'll watch the WWDC next month first, as well as watch different RUclips reviews on the newer iPad. I'm hoping iPad will get an OS update to take advantage of M4 power, and apps that take advantage of M4 chip power (desktop like apps). I've been thinking of getting the new iPad with M4 chip, it's so tempting. I have an older and underpowered iPad 6th gen with 1st gen Apple pencil. I also have an underpowered MacBook Air that's aging. I can't really do work on there. I tried uploading my 3D project in my MacBook Air and it just froze. Drawing is restricted by layers so I combine layers on my iPad. I plan on doing animation along with 3D sculpting, plus the Lidar Scanner, I always wanted to scan to put into my projects. I want to video edit the animations on iPad since it would be a time saver but video editing apps is only for newer iPads. I'm still thinking about purchasing since it is a lot of money but I'd like to future proof it. I was considering a MacBook Pro but I'm thinking I'd rather wait for the M4 Max chip in MacBook Pro to come out, at least hopefully by then I'd have saved up enough money. I currently have a beefy Windows laptop which I do most of my 3D work in. I'm really looking forward to 3D sculpting on my iPad with extra power, I may be able to do extra details which will be nice. The loud fans from my Windows laptop gets picked up by microphone which is annoying even with noise surpression. So I'm guessing if I do get the iPad with M4 chip, I will definitely get the Apple Pencil but also include the keyboard, it will become my daily Apple driver. Plus the quietness of the iPad, no loud fans lol. I'm hoping by doing this it will increase the lifespan of my Windows laptop, I've been using that everyday. I don't mind being a multiple device user, lol. That's just me
I was hoping for the same thing from WWDC after the first M1 iPad, but people are still waiting. You never know! But I don't know what the appetite would be to totally cut into MacBook sales.
So I'm an artist and I want to get this for drawing. I mostly use clip studio paint and it's exactly the same on the iPad. Most artists that I've talked to said digital painting and drawing doesn't use very much processing power. Do you think I should go with like the eight gigs of RAM or 16 gigs of RAM? Because like to get a 16 gigs you need to buy the 1 TB. And with all the add-ons it's like $3,000. That's like a lot. Would you suggests like waiting like a month for them to announce that update for that event that they're having next month?
Can you use your old magic keyboard on the new iPad ?
nope
Maybe if you apply some glue but knowing Apple, they might have some software locks as well. I don't know why people support this company.
get windows 2in1
I was thinking about the Air because it's the first cheaper iPad with the larger 12.9 screen then looking at the price I started looking at the iPad Pro from 2021 which is about $30 more. The performance would be fine and I'll looking it more for the better display and the speakers on the Pro. iPad Pros have been gimped by the software limitations. No point in getting a Pro when Macbook Air would be cheaper and you don't have to pay extra for a keyboard.
I bought an iPad 9th gen for this exact reason. I knew exactly what I wanted it for. I just wanted to stream Hulu, Disney Plus and Prime. That's it. I got it for $220 and it's been great. Lately I realize that I'd like to browse the Internet as well. The iPad is terrible at this for me because of pop-ups and the lack of ability to use a GOOD adblocker. Firefox isn't Firefox either. Google ran a promo that gives me the Pixel Tablet for $27 if I give them my iPad. It arrives tomorrow. Also, what I love about Android is that for the tasks you mention, even light coding, the Android tablet can actually pull this off. Apple set out to prevent this sort of thing.
For a portable device to carry with me I just went with the Mini. And I enjoy it a lot. I came from an older iPad pro.
@@peterparker2068 there really is no need for the iPad pro for most consumers. The OS is just not open to allowing powerful apps because Apple wants to be able to sell you as many devices as possible.
@@orangeyellow-me1pz I agree but until the recent update the only iPad that was 13 inches was the iPad Pro. But based on the price of the 13 inch iPad Air, it would be better for me to pay a little extra to get the refurbished iPad Pro 13 inch from 2021 for $830 compared to the $799 for the Air. It's a older device but I would get the better display, speakers, and increased storage.
The iPad Air M2 seems to be the better deal, as the M2 is powerful enough for the most of us, its just that the iPad Air M2 13 inch comes with an LCD type screen, not even mini-led, and only has 60hz motion ... i dont know, are these deal breakers for someone that is going to use the Air for tasks like note taking, web surfing, some drawing perhaps 🤔
Never ever buy the Ipad air m2 13”. Get the iPad Pro 12.9 (6th gen 2022) M2 at the same price with Pro Motion + Quad Speakers + Good Bass + MiniLed!!
@@Cheiskxn You are correct, spec wise, the iPad pro from 2022 would be the smarter buy. The only problem is, Apple keeps the prices inflated for the iPad Pro 2022 model compared to the newly released M4 iPad Pro. Who knows when the prices will come down for the 2022 Pro models 🤔
You hit the nail on the head so eloquently the new iPad is like buying a Lamborghini to ride on a go cart track....Most people would be better off with a MacBook :)
It is! Thanks for watching!
u r not only spending more money. even ur device gets damage and u need to repair or replace, then it costs way more
tempting devices but the price is insane in NZ for the pro, why dosnt anyone talk about thermal throttling on these thin ass tablets? not good for serious exporting / editting...
I don't know how they are on the tablets with all that power, but my MacBook Air does pretty well with an M2 on thermals. I don't think they run hot but I could be mistaken.
G-SHOCK
Smartwatch G-Shock, DWH5600 review coming up for Android Police in the next week or so.
lol realist video on the internet
Nobody is getting between me and the most powerful Netflix machine in the world. Not even you 😁
My iPad Pro is my main device , sorry only home device😮
do u really think ipad pro is best for gaming and editing? and do u agree that apple is looting?
That's not even m4 💀🤣
Did I say it was?
By this review, it sounds like you haven't really used an ipad pro properly tbh or even know how to use one correctly.
I take all my notes, planning, Excel, emails , etc. With a keyboard and mouse. I watch a lot of TV and Movies and play games for leisure off my 2020 ipad. I also pmay around on Procreate at a beginner for fun.
I have a MacBook Pro m3 pro, and I use my ipad 80% of the time. Not trying to be rude, but ipad OS is different and you need time to learn how to use it effectively
Great, that’s the point, if you know your use and it isn’t served by something less expensive, have at it. But for most people, content consumption seems to be as far as it goes.
Generally, if you can't do it on your iPhone, you probrably can't do it on your iPad.
The operating system on this tablet is a$$!
Useless video. Show me a brand new tablet with an 11 inch Oled display for &400.
