If I got an Austin 7 for a year for free I’d probably die of happiness. My dream car is an A30 and very close behind is a 7. But I might even buy a 7 first, should it happen that way.

i'm pleased young people are being encouraged to get interested in pre war cars but it would be great if there was a scheme for us oldies to be given a similar opportunity, i'm 70 and still would love the chance to drive a pre_war, even only for a day, it might even encourage me to buy one!

back in the early nineties, I owned several A7s. A box saloon, which I, and my wife, restored from a wreck to a nice, practical, attractive car. We bought a sports car, with a home made body, and this became our first racer, in VSCC events and 750 mc ones. A second sports car arrived, we rebuilt it, got more power from the engine, and now my wife and I had a racer each! A swap got us a really competitive car, and a championship in 750 mc . Ran out of money after 6 years of enjoyment. Sold the racers but kept the box saloon, which was always at the front of the queue on the way to work! years followed, racing in formula Vee, and later, formula Junior with an Elva 200. Happy times!

ALL Austin 7s had oodles of character in a way that few others could claim - simply because so many people had one as their first car and so many of them were given names by the owners e.g., Ethel, Sadie, Edgar, Oscar, Millicent. Try naming characterless Japanese cars today; It just doesn't work!

A really lovely little car and it's great that it's being used and hasn't become an over restored "garage queen" The only thing I have noticed is quite a bit of blue smoke from the exhaust. This is usually a sign of worn bores and/or rings (both my Morris 8's were the same) Does it use quite a lot of oil ?

You are moving in the right direction to keep classic car on the road, I have owned my Stag for 42 years and my Lancia for 40 years and I have my daughter and my grandson lined up to continue the ownership, (Not yet, maybe in 10 years if all goes well). keep up your activities. That's such a great scheme from the PWA7C. As a young-ish A7 owner, I think it's great to see people who are younger than me out in these cars. I think prewar cars are actually due for a bit of a resurgence. Even a 1970s classic is quite alien technology to someone born in the 1990s, so buying an old car is a deliberate decision to go for something different. Something that stands out. And a prewar car is a whole lot more different to the modern experience than an MGB or a Triumph Spitfire.
