Good point. I actually have far too much stuff and can see how much money I've wasted on unnecessary things over the years (gadgets / electronics / clothes etc). I've really been enjoying going around the house de-cluttering and sticking stuff on ebay, there is something very liberating about being minimalist and de-cluttering.

I've been actually poor for too much of my life to want to " look poor"! Designer goods are a rip off but when you can afford them it's not wrong to want better quality clothes that will last a long time. Natural fibres will keep you cool in summer and warm in winter, unlike a $7000 pair of designer polyester pants.
bc of the fear mentality we often miss out on investing or start too late. Thats right. Great content. Subbed for more!

In the US, you will be persecuted and scapegoated if you are a minimalist and not consuming materialism and media. Sometimes you will be looked down upon and will be difficult to make friends and be respected by people. That is one downside of being a minimalist and not consuming things. Family will soon look down upon you for being cheap. Hence, why in the US it is difficult to be a minimalist.
It's difficult to be a minimalist if your ego is tied to your things.
Great video! Keep it up!
Thanks, much appreciated!
Quite possibly the most offensive title I've come across. Poor? Being minimalist doesn't mean being poor, neither does meditating or being less materialistic. Poor is not some sort of lifestyle choice. Being poor means not being able to afford to heat your home, to feed your kids. That's what being poor is. Poor as a look? I'm sorry, this is a horribly offensive video.
So why did you click on it?
Good accent.

4:55 Many people don't even utilise the benefits of the £20k tax free ISA allowance because they think its all too complicated for them and is financial jargon. Sticking 20K in each year tax free and not having to pay capital gains is a huge tool, and you have that compounding effect on all that money in the ISA pot. Edit: commented too early cos you talked about it after 😂
@@JoeBloggs777 ha yes I agree!:) The ISAs are great tools to take advantage of !
Such great advice! Never thought of the avalanche method before! Thank you 🙏
Your first tip is well meaning but you should add the caveat that this apparently comes with the privilege of living close to central. Most people who live and work in London do not live in Zone 1 where offices and events are. It's not possible to walk everywhere when your job is 40 mins to an hr tube ride away from your home. PS my old financial company said they were going to have a clothes swop in the basement but it got cancelled. Wondering if it was the same one . As a fellow London dweller great tips...
London is particularly good for free museums and galleries. Toronto is not as good at that overall, but pretty much all of them have one day a week or a month that is free. Also the library has a certain number of free passes (especially for some of the less popular museums, which is great, because it gets you off the beaten path to learn things you might not have otherwise). I'm surprised at the difference in cost between the bus and the tube. In Toronto it is a flat fee regardless of the distance taken or the mode (get as far as you can within 2 hours, including round trips for one fee). A good thing for us to remember for next time we visit.

I think one of the most interesting pieces of the study that few ppl talk about is that the kids who were able to delay gratification were ones who had reason to trust the experimenter. If kids had learned that adults don't keep their word - aka they won't get that 2nd marshmallow - then they (very logically) ate the marshmallow right away. So as adults, looking back at our money scripts to see where we are falling into learned helplessness or thinking there isn't any point in delaying gratification because of past experiences, and addressing those actively.

As usual...Great content! Investing is a marathon and not a sprint. Take care of yourself first. It will amaze you how much your investments will grow in 5 years. Patience is a must. Start today, even if it is just a small amount, put a little away every month, your future self will thank you! (Love the background and seeing your hands! We notice your improvements with every video.) (Keep up the good work!)
Thanks!
Great content! You need to get in the habit of paying yourself first. Have money taken out of each paycheck and sent straight into your investment account. You will learn to live without that money within a few months and your investments will grow.
Thanks for this, this was very well worded. I've arrived at a point where I'm financially 'well' and don't need to work and this is message is EXACTLY what I've been processing for the last year. I have a friend that would offer financial and health advice at times, some of it which was pretty good! But a few years ago I stopped listening to his advice when I looked at his situation realizing that I was taking financial and health advice from a man that was living in his brothers basement, living month to month and was extremely overweight and had developed a fair number of health issues. I felt that he was projecting his ideals but didn't ever listen to his own advice. My financial wellbeing and overall health has dramatically improved since. But it's unfortunate because I've now 'arrived' at a point in my life where none of my friends are here with me and I find it to be rather lonely. So now I'm searching for people that are in a similar position in life. It's daunting.
Thanks for your comment, and that sounds like you did the right thing to listen to your gut & move forward with your life goals. You will of course find like minded people who want to progress in every aspect of their life too, you've got this! At the end of the day, you are the captain of your own ship, and you can go whichever way you want to go. Onwards & upwards!:)

Great content today. Everyone needs to put at least one hour a week of their time into their finances. There are many resources to learn how to invest today, people need to take advantage of them. Investing is not gambling, not a sprint either, but a marathon. The earlier that you start investing the better your results will be.
my parents started off their working lives in the mid 60s. once I realized what the sequence of return looked like for their formative years, it made sense that they didn't believe in investing in the markets (they have some investments now, but they have stayed very conservative from my understanding). they also paid off their mortgage early. in the 80s that made perfect sense. but to take their advice to do the same thing over the past two decades would not have been optimal. (I did it anyways) otoh, my dad always focused on the importance of transferable skills and strong networks, not being more loyal to an employer than they are to you - that has stayed relevant.
true
maam genuinely like your explanation way. i can help you in a editing if you are fine can i so my work ?
Okay, evidently you don't want email. I dislike posting this in the comments. It is like airing dirty laundry! LoL Please don't take these suggestions the wrong way, I'm just letting you know my observations and suggestions! Pros: 1. Nice lighting. 2. You raised the camera so it looks like you are talking to me from across the table. Good job! (could still be a bit higher.) 3. This content is much better than the "Buying a Leasehold" video. I'm in the USA and we don't have Leaseholds here. Cons: 1. You have a very expressive speaking style with a lot of hand movements that unfortunately we can't see because you are too close to the camera. Move back from the camera so that we can see your elbows and then we will be able to see your hand gestures. Keep your eyes no farther than 1/3 from the top of the screen. In other words don't have too much space above your head. (It is fine in this video but if you move back from the camera you might need to readjust this.)(Only your head is visible in this video.) 2. Try to make your background more interesting. Keep up the good work! You have what it takes!
Thanks for your comment, I don't have an email here yet. Best of luck with your channel
Hey! This is Jamie again! Could you please create an email for your channel so I could email you with some suggestions instead of posting them here?
I agree with creation vs. consumption, but I don't think we need to include a profit motive in that for it to be valuable. There is no way my knitting could be sold at a profit at a local stall and pay me anything beyond the cost of yarn plus the table, but I enjoy the productiveness of it, even if it isn't making a thing that can be measured in contribution to GDP. (I started knitting because I wanted to have something tangible I made after spending all the day making electronic documents)
I did recently reduced online shopping. When fysical shopping, you at least hear the price and need to take out the card to pay. So you feel in some degree that you spend the money. While online shopping its too quickly done to add up stuff, and you dont even use the card anymore = zero feeling of spending
Absolutely agree! If i see something online that I want to buy, I try and wait 3 days beforehand, if I still want it after 3 days and can afford it thats grand. But 90% of the time Ive forgotten about it after 3 days and could have been another impulse buy! :)
Are skyscanner and kayak more or less equivalent? I've only used skyscanner
Yes they are both comparison websites but if you are planning one-way trips or unique travel experiences, Kayak's "Hacker Fare" feature could offer cheaper options. If you're traveling internationally, Skyscanner's global coverage is great. They both offer the travel 'everywhere' function so you can find cheapest destinations without putting in a specific country
