    lol tip #1 😊 But if your counterweight in the 2 axis are good, should allow for some extra weight? The system does not really have inertia… mass vs weight principle…

    Good tips but the one about leveling is deceptive. Once a mount is polar aligned the leveling has no effect. The axis of rotation is not dependent on whether the tripod and head are level. Where is does matter is getting to polar alignment, like any alt az adjustment being level keeps vertical adjustment only vertical (alt) and horizontal only horizontal (az).

    Many thanks for doing a great video 😀. My only observation was that I tried imaging a target very near Polaris and my guiding (with ASIAIR Plus) said there was not enough movement in the stars. Your advice is spot on in that your guide scope should be relatively well aligned with your main scope with the exception of any targets near Polaris where I would try setting the guide scope a few degrees off the main scope. Keep the great videos coming 👍

    Whenever you're not actively working on a piece of the imaging train, just put it inside a plastic Ziploc bag. This pretty much eliminates dust settling on anything. The plain ol' Ziploc bag is better than any dust cap or cover. When you use the blower, hold the equipment upside down, away from your table, and blow the air *up* into it. You want the dislodged dust to fall down, out of the equipment, and not allow it to settle on anything below. If you blow sideways or down, you might just scatter the dust elsewhere inside the equipment.

    Great video! You did an awesome job of covering all of the things a mew mono user needs to consider when planning to make the transition. I do think you have made an incorrect assumption about increasing your image quality though. I have been using a ASI2600MM for the last two years and an ASI2600MC for about 18 months. With proper dithering they produce the EXACT same image quality for the amount of time spent gathering images. I agree with what you said about the mono pixel array 3 to 4 times the green or blue or red and any given time, but then you need to go and do it 3 different times. For the equivalent amount of time with an OSC sensor you end up with the exact same resolution and data density. In certain LRGB situations where you are gathering much more luminance there can be a small time advantage for mono but narrowband there is not. Ultimately with mono you end up having a lot more control over your final product and that is why most mono users love it. Just found your channel and look forward to more videos!

    I much prefer imagining in mono with narrow band filters but I am currently using OSC cameras for my galaxy season imaging. As I use a camera with a183 sized sensor for my mono imaging I can get away with 1.25" filters, though the camera is prone to some serious amp glow so a good set of dark frames are necessary. I actually captured the same target the other night but haven't processed it yet. If it turns out half as good as yours I will be very happy.

    I'm pretty new to the whole astrophotography game so I'm still getting my kit built out and learning very basic things. I was baffled by whatever space-age polar alignment you had going on until I looked it up and found out there were cameras for polar alignment. I've gotten used to the polar alignment scope in my mount and can align pretty well in roughly 5 minutes after the mount is set up, but man this would take so much guesswork out of it! Always learning, and clear skies!

    • @thatastrochap
      @thatastrochap 4 месяца назад

      I use the ZWO ASI Air to control everything relating to my imaging sessions. That has a built in tool for performing polar alignment which utilises your main scope + camera to ensure pinpoint accuracy. You basically follow the steps in the app, making small adjustments to the mount until you get it as accurate as you can. It’s a real game changer and avoids the need to buy an extra camera or otherwise. That said I have no doubt an independent polar alignment cam would work very well too! Good luck with your Astro journey! Clear skies

  • @blayzer8871

    The picture looks realy good. I just bought a OSC IMX571 for my widefield setup. I have a second setup with an OSC IMX533. This one I want to upgrade to a mono IMX533 to test it out. The cam and also the filters are cheap because I can use 1,25" filters. I hope they bring a IMX585 cam in mono for a good price like the color one. That would be realy nice. Did you make the flats after each filter was done or did you make the flats after the session for each filter?

    • @thatastrochap
      @thatastrochap 4 месяца назад

      Very nice! Picking a new camera is always such a tough decision and a big commitment. Hope you find a mono cam that fits the bill! As for flats, I did my full imaging run across LRGB, then the following morning before tearing everything down I did a run of LRGB flats followed by LRGB dark flats (with matching exposures per filter/flat combination).

    • @mschmalenbach

      I chose the Antlia SHO 3nm filters when I started doing mono. Very happy with them. I chose them in the basis of quality - including low to no halo on Oiii in particular, and price. For LRGB I chose the ZWO set as they are all par focal and optimised for the ASI 1600mm which I’m using for mono. And for which 1.25” filters are OK! It is night & day different between OSC and mono. But also more effort. It’s worth it. I am looking to move to a bigger sensor and expanded dynamic range for mono. Your video here has been helpful in that regard - I may well follow your path! Cheers & clear skies!

    What about guide scope FL? Should the guide scope be 25% of the main scope focal length for example? Or doesn't that matter for guiding?

    • @thatastrochap
      @thatastrochap 5 месяцев назад

      Great point - guide scope FL is definitely an important factor that I don’t cover in the video. I’m sure there are many other elements I don’t touch on here too. My primary intention was to cover the key areas that people often rush, overlook or don’t know about. In general I think the rule of thumb is it should be a minimum of 25% of the main telescopes FL. For instance, if you use off axis guiding it would be 100% which would work just fine, the key aspect is that it shouldn’t be too small relative to the main scope.

    Great image. As you probably know M42 is a tough image as the core is so bright its hard to tame. Good job.

      Thank you! I think I could definitely do with taking it further in future. The core in my image is still brighter than I’d like but I’m pretty happy with it as a first attempt.
