Hey T Rod, I just found your channel. I've only tried 2 ASM so far. Big recommendation for Westward Stout Cask. 92 proof so smooth with dark chocolaty finish. Delicious! Also bought the Jack Daniel's ASM from the duty free when flying back from overseas. Very grain-forward and didn't really care for it. Go Green! Class of 1996.
Dude- this was a great idea of something new regarding whiskey. Thanks for going against the grain. I just purchased the Woodford double double and somewhat regret it. Not that great imo, specially for the price.
Great video brother cheers 🍻 definitely an expensive hobby lol
It really is... But I regret nothing 🤣🤣
@T.ROD_WHISKEY i feel the same way lol
Great selection cheers 🥃
Bourbon Hual just did a skit about total wine employees you should check it out.
Yeah this is a very expensive habit.
Very true! It will definitely put a hurting on your wallet, no doubt about it
@ Yes it does! I have already spent $700 this month 🤢
T-Rod! We need to meet up this year when the weather warms up. I'll bring pours from our distillery and see if you enjoy them.
@@TomMorrow78 sounds like a plan to me! Get at me on IG and we'll see if we can't set something up!!
I have heard great things about LSF blood lines.
The Weller 12 is almost full for a reason. 😅
@@Knifeandbrass yes, cuz it's not very good 😂
@T.ROD_WHISKEY it would be if they didn't water it down to 90 proof, what a shame.
@@Knifeandbrass it really is. I'd love to see what a undiluted Weller 12 would be like... But I feel that maybe that's Lot B 😅
Great review. I'd love to be able to get a hold of this bottle.
Thank you sir, I appreciate it! I don't believe they distribute these, so distillery only, but if you're in the area, it's definitely a stop worth making
They all seem interesting, thanks for the quick review
@@robfromgpw5243 thanks for watching! Cheers sir 🥃🥃
Looking really good
@@CiboloDave thanks buddy, much appreciated!!
A most midwestern basement. I love it.
@@Cs_1063 haha, yepp. Love my basement, and idk if I could live in a house without one!
Very nice 👌 👍, I just figured out I've spent more on my Whiskey /Bourbon collection than I paid for my first house 40yrs ago 🫣🤷😉🤣
@@thomasanderson2870 well shit, that's good work!!! 😂😂
Thank you for tasting this so we don’t have to. That bottle needs a prominent place in your collection to serve those that have pissed you off
I recently did a podcast with H K Young. And they are really doing some cool and unique things. Batch 2 is even better. Cheers
@@the_whiskeyshaman oh nice! That's awesome to hear, it sounds like they really have some exciting stuff coming to market in the future
@ yes sir. Thanks for reviewing more craft brands to help get there name out there. It is appreciate.
@the_whiskeyshaman no doubt! Many of these smaller or upstart operations are putting out truly fantastic stuff, but it doesn't get the recognition it deserves due to being overshadowed by the legacy guys
Cheers. Not familiar with this distillery. Good review
They're a newer company, but making great whiskey! Definitely worth checking out and giving a try. I have a feeling you'll really enjoy what they're putting out!
Cheers brother! Can only get better as our stocks age and we can continue to add in a little more depth and blend that in with the 6yo stuff.
@@colehanna8801 looking forward to every bit of it!! Cheers 🥃
My all time favorite rye is Redwood Empire Emerald Giant CS.
I haven't gotten around to trying that one quite yet, but I have heard great things!
I love the Dickel, just killed the first bottle and replaced it. Amazing rye for $21.98. The OF Rye is great too, similar price, more of a bourbon tasting rye. As for a little higher cost ryes, love the Hard Truth High Road rye, High West Double rye and Green River Rye.
@@sweetsinnndy5201 definitely agree, all great choices there!!
I finally had Pikesville Rye because it became more available by me. The bodega cat I saw a Total Wine. I’ll add that to my wish list. Jamesy Pepper Rye barrel proof is one of the most solid MGP ryes out there.
@@TheReal_DeanD Pepper rye is one of the best sleeper bottles out there, for certain. Definitely let me know what you think of the Bodega cat too!
I just picked up the WT rye from Mega-Bev last week also, along with a Penelope toasted rye a Frey Ranch rye and a Sagamore double oak rye but haven't opened them yet 👍
@@thomasanderson2870 I haven't tried the Frey Ranch yet, but I can confirm that the rest of those are definitely hitters!
My favorite Rye's i got in 2024 are, OF single barrel-barrel proof, walleye run 7yr double barreled malted, stellum high proof, mb Roland, Sagamore 9yr, Hard Truth Mellencamp, old pepper single barrel, Limosin 6yr CS , Old Overholt 11 and A Overholt. All VERY TASTY ❤😋 Cheers 👍 🥃💯
@@thomasanderson2870 I tried like heck to get the Overholt 11, but it didn't make its way into Michigan
Which Hard Truth Mellencamp? There have been two rye whiskeys, Harvest Rye (Fall 2023) and French Oak Harvest Rye (Fall 2024). They had the Farmer's Reserve, but that is a blend of the bourbon and chocolate malted rye from Spring 2024.
@@dus10dnd I am already having to Google 😅 don't mess with Hard Truth too much quite yet, but I hear good stuff
Dang I guess I need to check these guys out. Love it.
Absolutely you do! Some great whiskey coming out of Kings Family!!
Happy New Year!!! I’ll add these to my wishlist. No stores by me carry these yet.
Same! I am hoping distribution comes to my neck of the woods soon, but I also know what a pain Michigan alcohol laws can be
🥃 from GR Mi., subscribed 👍
@@dunny2124 thank you so much! I appreciate it immensely!!
Was going to pick up one till i saw the age statement of 2 years 😳 😖🫣
@@thomasanderson2870 some of the single barrel picks are significantly older, I'd look for one of those. Their 4-5 year stuff is quite a bit better
Can't stop laughing at this review. 🤣
@@WhiskeyDoghouse it is hands down, one of the most awkward and painful tastings I've ever done. But, I'm glad you liked it! 😂
Better keep the Bumpass’s dogs out (A Christmas Story reference)
Lol, don't even joke about that! 😂😂
Very nice 👍💯🥃
Thanks buddy, appreciate it!
It's yalls fault. RUclips taters are to blame
What about this makes me a tater? I'm just talking about some decent bottles with justified price tags
I was with you up until the Weller. I'm not paying $100+ for ANYTHING from BT.
Totally get it, I just really enjoy the WFP single barrel picks, and have gotten some amazing ones. I wouldn't get crazy on the pricing, but I would pay more than 100 for sure. How much more, is gonna depend on the barrel
Pingree is still sourced juice produced in doesn’t mean distilled in. Bookers are worth the 100 price point for me even the off profile ones just hits me right. However if it goes over 110 I’m out. I used to go to 150 but honestly some recent sub par bottles made me rethink my decision on pricey bottles. Diminished returns seems to be happening more on whiskey the last few years. And with the price increase on limited bottles from legacy brands is ridiculous. WT and BT especially have just put some bottles out of reach for many of their customers. Do I get that it may be driven by trying to kill the secondary market sure but it’s still keeping good stuff out of many people’s hands.
@@umami0247 true, a few legacy Distillers are coming to market with some insane prices. It's why I stay away from the WT Masters bottlings, and why I can't bring myself to splurge on some BTAC.
The JM cigar blend is just meh anymore to ME , rather have a JW Dant bourbon for less than $20 🤔 . If you see a Savage and Cooke bib for around $100 it is well worth it, distilled by them in California 😉👍. I'm still trying to find the high proof Mayor Pingree expressions, no liquor stores in my area have even heard of them 😕 Cheers 🥃
The Mayor Pingree bottles are sneaky good, and absolutely worth the hunt. And I definitely agree about the JMCB... Not as good as they used to be
I‘ll give MGP older age stuff a chance. If I see these I’ll give them a go. Hooten and Young didn’t do well in the stores by me. None can be found now in Total wine and other shops
The regular 12 year is good I think, you just have to know you're not getting a bourbon going into it
I think the issue with juice from Boss and crib or Blem Tee Gee is that people think that it should be cheaper. The people selling it are not distilling, barreling, and aging their own stuff so why pay so much?
True, but that also feeds into the expense. The ndp has to buy the barrel and build that cost into their model, and it can often times be more costly. I get the point though, absolutely
@@T.ROD_WHISKEY I was in a bigger mom and Pop store and you should’ve heard one bourbon lover, and the associate go at it about MGP & pricing. The associate knew some things and mentioned some of your points. Finally the Bourbon lover just said it’s MGP and walked off.
@@TheReal_DeanD I understand both sides, but I definitely empathize with the ndp that has to source whiskey while theirs ages, or if they're very transparent about where it comes from
@T-Rod_Whiskey. New subscriber. As you stated, High Line Spirits is very local MI southeast area. Yes, Christine is doing great stuff. I go to Dexter (since that opened first, although Plymouth is closer). I was involved with their SB bourbon pick in November in Dexter (one was done in Plymouth). And, we had so much fun. Have you tried the triple rye. Happy 2025
@@Liz_DrB thank you for subscribing!! I've tried all their bottlings, and the triple rye was definitely a favorite. Also really enjoyed their American Whiskey!
Dang, when do you open the retail operation?
Lol, never!
Looks great!!
Thanks!
👍💯😉
Dang! Can I come over?
Great list!
@@domingocorona7028 thank you, appreciate it buddy!
Ran across several this past month and passed on them all, $149.99 here in mid michigan 🤔 Cheers 🥃 🎅
I’m happy there is official classifications done. I think the coloring thing we might have to get used to. Because for me when I’ve seen some Scotches it looks like bottled urine or bottled antifreeze. They often sit on shelves for years so to move product. I bet they’re gonna color their American Single malts.
I don't necessarily exclude a bottle cuz of coloring, but it's definitely way more suspect if it does 😅
If you did corn whiskey, I would say look at Balcones blue corn or iron root harbinger. The owners of Hootin and Young may be bad asses but when I contacted them about their 12 year, they didn’t seem to know much about the product. This was years ago though. I’ll give them a chance maybe if it goes on sale a Total Wine. Their stuff is kind of pricey.
Our hero here hits the 2 point conversion to go out on a high note. Way to hit the bullseye. I think one store by me has it for 260 before tax. So sadly no go.
@@TheReal_DeanD absolutely not worth a penny over msrp. I would argue it's not even worth that the past couple of years 😂
I'll have to look for the high proof one 🤔, not a Buffalo Trace fan but I picked up one today at Walmart for $12- 750ml. 👍 Cheers and Merry Christmas 🎅 🥃
And a very merry Christmas to you as well!!
Go Lions! Just got back from Jonna's in Howell mi. and picked up a 4 roses single barrel store pick and an OF single barrel store pick along with a Limosin cask strength Rye 👍😉 A GREAT Day for me...A Lions Win and a Good Haul of Bourbon 😬 Cheers 🥃 🎅
Cheers buddy! Sounds like an impressive haul, and a Lions W always makes for a great day!!
I thought when the team is in a heater. You wear the same hoodie or jersey and you don’t wash it. Until they lose.
@@TheReal_DeanD oh I'm not that hardcore 😂😂 definitely still washing it
I’ll take it. Called the distillery and a wine finish.
@@TheReal_DeanD right? Just about close enough 😅 I have too many MGP products I guess, lol
Congrats on getting over the 250 threshold!!
@@TheReal_DeanD thanks! Pretty psyched about it!!
I count this as a hit. Maybe a shot in the shoulder instead of a headshot? This Whiskey was on my wish list too. But it’s not in my area.
Kings Family is doing some absolutely amazing things, and I'm a massive fan of these ryes
