I love all the things they’re talking about and crediting to D’Angelo are actually Dilla. Even the guy talking to quest on how to play drums at 2:50 is CLEARLY Dilla. They credited him for none of these albums made at the same time btw. The common album (chocolate) Badu’s (mama’s gun) Listen to everyone talk about Dilla’s contributions. All three albums were made at the exact same time he contributed to all of them that’s kinda why they al sound the same. It’s shameful how the music industry works

I had the pleasure of hearing a cd where there were Jay Dilla reference beats in between every song on this album. I don't know if they just replayed what he did, and those were the finished songs, but it was the most amazing recording I've ever heard till this day!

@FullyMelanin I'm so sincere! My dude brought it from NY. We just thought it was D'Angelo's leaked album but I was always a Dilla fan and recognized the beats immediately. I don't think that was supposed to get out to the public and Iv never been able to find it since. In between each song was a Dilla reference track. No cap! And I have no reason to lie.

It's called Devil's Pie, from 2019. It was shown at a few film festivals, got limited streaming release, then sorta faded into obscurity. I wish it was available to rent somewhere. I will post some more snippets soon
Oh interesting. I actually have seen this full documentary but don’t remember this part for some reason. I mostly remember the outtakes from the black messiah sessions. Agree that it’s a shame it’s so rare
