Hi there. Nice video. Wanted to ask, what addons/files do you use for the HD patch? It looks hella clean on the video
None... that's just the base game at the highest settings.
Im sorry but i cant dissagree with you more, Arthas was far from perfect and he did some bad things like burning the ships and betraying the mercenaries. But other than that, the only other thing he did wrong was not explain the situation better to Uther and Jaina. Uther specially was breaking its Paladin oath by leaving the people of Stratholme to their fate. And they both leave, providing NO alternative. Just "let it happen" is not really an alternative, in what way having an army of zombies that will just kill everyone not only in Stratholme but in other nearby towns as well is an alternative? Not to mention we get to see at the end that not everyone was killed, so Arthas actions DID save some people. And none of this is an speculation. And Jaina always regretted her desicion.
Nope, you've got it entirely wrong. 1. Arthas did a lot more than just "not explain the situation better." His goal was to murder an entire city of people without even looking inside and seeing what the situation was. He was going to commit MASS MURDER on the premise that they "might all be infected" because of the grain. That is no better than bombing an entire city of people because they "might become terrorists one day." There are parallels to some modern events. PAY HEED! 2. Just letting it happen is 100% an alternative, as is quarantining the town, as is doing something else that is more effective overall, like warning Terenas of the threat and rallying the alliance back together so that each faction (elves, dwarves, and humans) don't die alone. 3. We see at the end that Arthas didn't even finish the genocide he said he would start, thus if his assertion that EVERYONE was already infected was true, he would have failed in his mission. That's the point... You see... It was never about "saving his people" or the city, or his Kingdom. It was about WINNING by any means necessary. It was about destroying Mal'ganis... defeating him in a game of sport where the lives of his people were the bowling pins. Just look at it from the perspective of being a citizen of Stratholme. Let's say you were inside a house, and Arthas kicks in the door. You and your family aren't even feeling sick, and you didn't even eat any grain, but your Prince starts MURDERING your wife and children before your very eyes... Would you bow down to kiss his boot and thank him as he decapitated you? How people got The Culling (the very name of which is about murdering cattle) so wrong is beyond me... But it's not okay. That is genocidal psychopath shit... You missed the message somehow... Now you know the reality of the situation. Arthas was 100% wrong at The Culling. He could easily have swayed Uther and Jaina to his side if he had been even a little bit flexible about a potential quarantine, but no... it had to be his way RIGHT NOW... That's the point! A rash prince brought down to vile acts through manipulation of the situation... That's the story.
@@DesignerDave Yet the game states that you are wrong, since the in-game cutscene shows that Arthas did not killed everyone in the town(Arthas only destroys plaged houses, and there are people alive at the end), and if you actually play the escenario, after destroying a plaged house you can wait until the citizens become zombies before killing them and they all convert. Also you cant blame Arthas for not considering a quarentine, if Uther or Jaina didnt consider it why you blame Arthas for not doing so? That was even possible? they had enoght troops for that? We dont know. What we know is that the people Arthas killed were all infected, not everyone in the city was killed, Uther and Jaina did not proposed anything else and walked away leaving everyone to their fates, including Arthas. I belive your hate for the character has completely blinded you here. But well, do not take it the wrong way, the fact people are still discussing this after all these years it just show how well written Warcraft 3 was. I just dont see the same things as you do in the game.

they should have made it 100% pvp and introduced base building, territories, and upgradable gear instead, and let the players and guilds form the future of the world - then it would be true "world of warcraft"...and not just endless grind...
That would be an entirely different game, but I'm all for it... I just don't think it'll happen.
As chat keep saying...it was SHIT. Like someone's fanfiction taking over Warcraft 3's story.
This is what happens when corporats take control of your baby and now everything is about PR, no risks, always the safe bet. The safe bet was to let all the degenerates keep their crazy mounts, their crazy title, achievements etc and to keep them in one single game. There is no room for innovation, no room for creativity, i'm sure the devs on the game right now just hate their jobs, everything they provide is sterilized and if they don't fall in line they go and get replaced.
I love Warcraft 3 so much. Thank you for your work. WC3 is pretty much the only game I play, but the community is pretty dead. I dont know what to do
There are a few communities you should look into. Check out the various ones on Hive, including Insane Monster's Re-Reforged, and Chronicles of the Second War. There's also Grubby who still plays War3 live.
Thankfully the game ended at the end of Legion. The giant sword destroyed the planet.
@@grog159 this is literally my headcanon as I quit retail for good in start of BFA
I'd actually want it to have been a second cataclysm. Maybe not crack over kalimdor, but just turn the clock forwards on the main continent storylines. They're so full of life and memories but have been stagnant for 15 years
Granted, the "reset the world" angle may not have worked in other, well, works like Mortal Kombat, the DC Comics Tomorrowverse, and maybe even Umbrella Academy. Did work for current Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and The Neverending Story, so there's that as a counterpoint. Addendum: Anyways, what about those Warcraft II remaster rumors?
We remastered Warcraft II over 20 years ago. It was called War II BNE.
Can you just bind pickpocket into your openers?
If I could get it to autoloot them... but I'm willing to experiment, this is a great potential idea. :)
@DesignerDave I remember using a macro like that in classic. It wouldn't loot fast enough to complete before combat started but the pick pocket loot would be on the body after looting the normal drops. So I would loot each mob twice after killing them. Dunno if it would work the same here.
This is in OG wow too I believe
1:50:40 This is why you never go half measures. Either beat your children into good behavior or don't beat them at all.
How do we use the new customization..? That only for new players..?
I believe there's a "Barber Shop" in Sparkwater Port (near Orgrimmar).
Back when the minimum requirement to get a tech job was knowing a guy and breathing. Now you need 35 years of XP and 12 years of collage by the time you turn 18.
Well... hold on there. This is QA and for a game that required emergency testers for a more niche hardware platform (Macs). Plus locality... He was already nearby. QA was something I did for Bliz part-time while still attending college, and many studios still have internships and part-time QA jobs (or more often now, night-shift QA jobs).
Macintoshes were the days. Strange how some of them are still being used, but then again, such are nostalgia and security parameters, maybe.
The clone Mac era was truly the weirdest one. Just before Steve Jobs came back.
Ah, the oldest method of getting a job. "So I knew this guy..."

@@KingLich451 I guess I can stop playing then!
It's not just one city that needs them I bet a lot of city and villages are also got compromised or would be compromised after all they got a lot necromancers distributing tainted grains. Quarantine takes time, manpower, resources which they don't have and would not have because there are also other active hostile enemies in constant move to infect other city or villages.
If they don't have time for quarantine, they don't have time for genocide by hand either. But with 100% certainty, genocide is evil, and quarantine is not.
Might need a rattle-y and chattering effect on the voice acting, so to really feel like a bony if not spectral Undead. Meantime, that end fumble does get me. There can also be times when you may want to "fix" suspected errors in the transcript if not subtitles.

Hi Dave, I really like your content, and I don’t know if under this video is the right place to to do this but I hope you can answer to a question of mine. I recently created a reddit post about a wierd anomaly that I’ve encountered with when playing W3 years ago. I copy&paste the post: “Sylvanas’ Farewell Interlude BUG? Ok.. many many years ago when I was a little kid my brother and I played the undead campaign from TFT and when we reached this interlude something wierd happend. I don’t know if we waited until the end of the cutscene or we pressed esc but instead of switching to the next chapter (The Dark Lady) which is a playable map, the game stayed on the interlude level and it became playable.. Barely playable.. Sylvanas was the only usable and visible unit but she was stuck between trees in the forest. All the map was totally dark except that one area with Sylvanas’ glowing effect. I vaguely remembering all of this but the image of this memory hunts me for many years now and I don’t know if this ever happend or if it’s really possible? I asked my brother who is older than me about this several times. And every time I asked him he said he does remember this scene but also vaguely. But he states the same. So my question is: has anybody ever encountered with such bug?” So because you are one of the level designers my question for you: is there any way to trigger the game somehow to achive such outcome? Or do you know about this bug or any similar cases? Thank you!

He resigned, and it was around the time Warcraft III Reforged got defunded and the Classic team got gutted by Kotick.
Stratholme was already doomed thanks to the tainted grain, it was either destroy the city or let it turn into a hotbed of undead to infect the rest of Lordaeron. I fail to see how he did anything wrong - it would have been far worse if he didn't act.
And what of the people who didn't eat any grain? Do they not deserve a chance to live? If you were in Stratholme and you knew you and your family didn't eat any grain because you've been sticking to corn and lamb, what would you do when Arthas kicks in your door? Bow down and lick his boot as he massacred your family?
@@DesignerDave What other options were there? Uther who offered no alternative - or Jaina who also offered no alternative? You're condemning Arthas for making the best of a bad situation while as if there was any better alternative (there wasn't)
@@Venetheus Dozens of options. Arthas: "Uther, listen, we can try to save as many people as we see who are uninfected, but it must end at this city." Uther: "We can quarantine them in the Zoo until we're sure they'll turn." Arthas: "Okay!" Jaina: "Okay!" But the point of the story is that Arthas doesn't look for another answer, he doesn't wait for anyone to have time to think. Watch the cinematic again... It's his way or the highway, act NOW, act RASHLY... That's the whole point of Arthas' character. He acts without thinking it through and his downfall... The whole point of THE CULLING (so named because he treats human beings like cattle, look up the definition of "culling), is that Arthas only cares about his vengeance... he has to stop Mal'ganis NOW... Arthas isn't looking for alternatives, and he literally accuses Uther of treason before he even gives him a second to think of an alternative. Without that... Without Arthas being irrational here, the story dosn't work. It all builds to this. Look at everything from Mission 1 Uther: "Vengeance must not be a part of what we do here." To the end of The Culling Arthas: "I'll follow you to the ends of the Earth!" What was Arthas ACTUALLY doing at Stratholme? Saving his people? My ass.
The RoG Gladius 2 has been the best for me.
I think this is a case where the design just doesnt convey what you wanted it to show. Everything places the Culling as this impossible problem where the dead will rise and Arthas is abandoned by the two people who could best argue for "another way". The aftermath where the city is scourged implies that ths Culling was successful, as fucked as that is, and when Arthas comes back to kill his father the implication comes off as his actions having delayed the Undead victory until, ironically, he shows up to ensure it- which makes the story just more interesting and tragic. I get what you're trying to say but I just don't think the sign posting and character writing in the game really support that creator assertion that Arthas committed a completely avoidable evil act where there was an obvious solution, especially with how the problem and mission is framed and how later WoW lore outright states there's no cure and the virulence is extreme. Basically leaving Stratholme untouched would just ensure that the flee west plan would have even fewer survivors with how many undead the city's fall would add. Also, I just cant agree with the prophet. I know he had to be vague to keep the plot intrigue going but he just does an absolute shit job in convincing people to follow his westward flight plan. He shows up basically at random, isnt very helpful except stating vague doom, and doesn't sell his case that well. People doubting him untol Lorderan is basically lost is just proper versimilitude. Especially with how he shows up when Arthas is arguably in his most desperate, stubborn state. His character actions just dont really fit someone that wants to actually see humanity make it across to Kalimdor since he's about one and done with every character he tries to convince. Still, I'm glad for this "mistake" in intention. If you made your intent more obvious and heavy handed, I dont think many people would still be talking about Arthas' story instead of the gameplay. It was a fantastic mission design and marked a great turning point in the story. But its always going to be more interesting with how people took it than this intention you're sharing here.
Except that more than fifty percent understood the intent correctly and still think it's brilliant... If The Culling isn't a step into the path of evil, I don't know what is... I wonder how many people see the genocide in Gaza in a similar way...
@@DesignerDave The intent that it's part of his path to evil? Yea, I'd agree with that. The later story supports it and Arthas commits steadily more and more deplorable acts. But your discourse in the video I don't agree with because I don't think the setup is really there in the way you say it is. The Culling here is presented like a devil's choice where no outcome is good and the worst possible outcome might be to do nothing. Could it have been avoided and something more humane happen? Probably, but both Uther and Jaina abandon Arthas to do as he wills and Arthas, at his most desperate moment, chooses the culling as what he sees as the only good decision and, with how much the audience knows, it may have been the only thing he could do because of how big a crisis its made out to be in the story. That's why the story is even talked about now because he commits an evil act on the belief (as false as it is because of what happens later) for a greater good and the audience can understand both his rationale and the conditions that led to that and discuss how it could of been different. From Uther standing up to Arthas, to Jaina trying to guide him from just being a mad butcher on the populace. To him just going to warn his father that Stratholm has fallen. I'm not sure on the Gaza point you're talking about here. That's a real world tragedy with a lot more human complexity, cruelty and uncomfortable reality than a video game story involving a fantasy world with an undead zombie horde and demon invaders and a "everyone works together and world peace is restored" message. People talking about fiction here are not necessarily discussing the morality of real world ongoing conflicts.
The answer around 15:00 was the most based, chad response ever.
The truth hurts, but it's better to just tell it like it is so people can move on.
@@DesignerDave Very true. I watched Asmon react to that clip and you can see the copium drain from his veins.
I'm working on it, but its tough to commit to any idea for very long and solidify it. For my indie game I hope the story turns out to be more like Hollow Knight where its vague and mysterious and hopefully I can get away with less is more. But yeah I agree and I feel the same way when I see people mod games or make fan art, I wonder why they wouldn't rather use their talent on their own creations.
