My cousin took me to this Frozen Four, he is a UND Alum and had tickets to see the then Fighting Sioux. I was 13 years old and living in Missouri with my mom and step-dad at the time (we're from MN). Away from my friends and family back in Minny, I was a pretty lonely kid. It meant a lot that he came down and took me to these games, I had a blast- I even got Barry Melrose to sign my program in one of the intermissions lol.

Just watch for first time. Heard it on radio driving to go from suburbs to downtown chicago. Was exciting. Spartans experiance won it. The double foul call was horrible. CYCLONE guy was not let room to come down. 2pts plus a free throw. Then the guy fouls out. Flyntstone kids were a good team. Not alot of talent but good solid players. Peterson was only nba guy. Bell i think played for 5 or 6 years .

Eustachy's loss of self control at the end was an eerie bit of foreshadowing considering what would transpire later on in his career. Heartbreaking to see his wife, who would end up leaving him over his ridiculous actions just a couple of years later. Izzo was even trying to talk some sense into him but you could tell that he wasn't hearing any of it. Just wasn't all there.

Thank you for posting this! This was an historic game in many ways. It was Sparty's first bowl game since the 1966 Rose Bowl. It was Army West Point's first bowl game in program history. It was the the first bowl game to take place in the Midwest since the Great Lakes Bowl in 1947 at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium. And, finally, The Black Knights/Cadets became the first FBS team since WWII to win their Bowl Game Debut (it should be noted that a couple weeks later, Virginia would also win in their first ever bowl game, when they beat Purdue in the Peach Bowl). Truly a game of firsts here.

Thank you so much!! This game never seemed to receive the same status in Spartan lore as the National Championship and ISU games, but it is one of my favorite Spartan games ever. I'll never forget the extreme range of emotions from nightmarish near devastation to pure exhilaration. GO GREEN!
