you labelled the parts of the gasmask wrong, but no biggie. the part with the cap you unscrewed was where the plastic voice diaphragm goes, which vibrates when you speak so people can hear. the part you labelled as the diaphragm was actually the exit valve, and the hole on the side is the filter's intake valve.

Imagine being in the world of HL2 as a civilian, doing the same thing everyday. Passing by combine officers, moving through gates, and hearing that same Dr. Been speech.. and then you find a man in an HEV suit pass by with a group of soldiers. Gunshots echoes, and you decide to go back home. Better being absent than risking your life, eh? Anyways, the combine then start to knock on your door. They let themselves in and check your clothing and furniture. You get checked, and the combine set up defenses using your furniture. They didn’t even have a right to be there, and take your furniture! They keep their guns up at the doorway, until you hear multiple footsteps. You think it’s the common combine raid, but it seems to be that same man in the HEV suit and more humans with guns start to shoot in your apartment building from the doorway. You duck down onto your wooden floor, and hear one say ‘Follow Freeman!’ and shoot all the combine. You wanted to help the men after helping you, so one of the men hands you a SMG, and you start to tear down combine patrols and officers. Then, a man named Eli Vance shows up, with his daughter. Freeman discharges everyone with a hand signal and goes off to the citadel with Eli’s daughter. You go back home, close the door, change your clothes, and sleep on your mattress. Then tomorrow, the citadel explodes.
