So...the drill down is what caused the failure?...brake pads overheated, hot fluid, not enough meat on the pads, leak? Not the sort of shit u want to happen again. We bleed and change fluid regularly, check pads n rotors and any possible hose leaks...trying to minimize the possibilities. No one wants a brake failure at 200kph.
Nice job sucking up all that energy . After impact i can see you taking a large breath and tilting your chin down in relief . Glad your good. Sorry about the car.
It pays to have safe reliable parts. I was expecting worse
Thanks Bob Hubbaŕd and Jim Downing for the Hans!
What's he waiting for, the valet?
Could have geared down to help minimise speed? Gears are for slowing, not just going?
I was expecting it to go into those tyres you clipped but FUCK man, smashing into that armco is terrifying. Glad you're ok and really good cage build.
I was at the 2015 NJ race. We had problems with the carb flooding on braking. I was coming into the hairpin and lost the motor. So I let out the clutch while still in 3rd, got the engine back but immediately swung sideways into the turn. I ended up t-boning a busted up beamer which I didn't feel too bad about because it didn't leave a dent on him. My 87 foxbody was a different story though. I was sooooo pissed. What surprised me the most was it was a hard hit and I didn't even feel it.
holy hell good threading there
Man he managed that fucking great considering. Thank god he did, and thank god it was lemons, so even the financial loss is manageable.
I’m shocked at his maneuvering skills
Originally I thought you should have let the clutch out when you had no breaks but the timing between those two cars was so perfect it might have been a best case scenario you didn’t
This is why a cage and Hans are so important!
Good job missing the other cars, how much did the track damage cost you? Took out some serious armco there.
NOT the 24hrs of Lemons at Thompson.
You made those other drivers shit their pants 😂
vicious
Damn, I’m assuming the brakes went out based on his pumping the pedal. He handled the brake failure better that I could have.
"Jesus Christ, The fuck is this" - Driver
No downshifting or ebrake? Coulda done more. Very lucky he didnt spike someone coming through the next corner
M3 BMW had an identical crash at an SCCA event in Thompson today.
That was epic....
i call that a win WOW
THREADING THE NEEDLE LIKE A FUCKING GOD
Brakes are considered safety equipment right? So aren’t you allowed to spend as much as you want on them?
So what happens after the crash since the guardrail is damaged? Do they put in another one or just continue on? Does the drive team have to pay for a new rail?
When you try to cut the corner in forza but end up crashing.
i would love to see footage from the car you crossed in front of, ill bet he needed a change of underwear
Wow that was a serious head on collision....so was it a ruptured brake line? I saw you slamming the brakes..and nothing 😢
That could have been so much worse for so many. Good job, but why no E-Brake?
Some say he is still pumping the brakes
A). You soil your drivers suit. B). You shorten your race weekend in horrific fashion C). All of the time/money working on the car is flushed down the toilet D). You get a bill from the track for repairs. All things that do not outweigh the fact that you are seemingly okay. I don't care what anyone says, that is one hell of a job. I hope the other cars that you DID NOT collect are appreciative.
Honestly should I aimed for the MR2 they don't deserve to live lol on a serious note that was a hard crash probly gonna be sore glad you're OK
That was insane handling on that crash. Bravo lol
I say good driving and luck. He realize he lost his brakes in the braking zone intentionally swerved right into the grass to avoid the other cars, that is good reaction and his only option other than rear ending the pack. once you hit the grass there is no steering you can see him try to to give small steering input when he hits the grass but nothing so he rides it out and luckily misses the pack.
Turned the wheel anyway and pumped the brakes to try and get pressure back. Couldn't do anymore than that. Good thing the front didn't bite and turn while he was on the grass. Could have easily killed that corner worker.
Did you guys find out what failed? Brakes boiled or line ruptured or ??? Glad you're ok!
No Hans?
Oh maybe there was one.
@@jamiewolak hans are mandatory. there is a safey official at the end of the pit lane that stops the driver and checks the equipment before they are allowed to exit pit lane onto the track.
This is Tom, fellow Lemons racer, very interested in the type of cage, as in general shape. Maybe some pics post crash? Wondering about anything I can do to make my Pinto safer since it doesn't exactly have the crush zones your newer car does...
Fantastic situational awarness and even better driving!!! hats off to you!!!
And the HANS device saves another life. Every racer's worst nightmare. Glad you got out ok
What I want to see, though, is the footage from the car you passed directly in front of at about 12 seconds in. That guy/gal had to be scared shitless.
ruclips.net/video/cZW9bPQgWjg/видео.html Careful what you wish for
Good to see ya alright, looked nasty
good job missing the other cars coming across grass-- srry about car
Damn, thank God for that cage and HANS. :o
Unskilled and stupid driver.
And the last time you lost your brakes at the end of the straight was....? Driver had presence of mind to pump em for what he could get and miss as much stuff as possible. Glad the driver is OK. It's the worst place on that track for that to happen.
@@cartryahoo First, he could use the handbrake to slow down the car (unskilled), second, he could go to the left side instead of going through the other cars (stupid). You understand..?
I think its easier said then done. I bet the car has no hand brake and who knows what the left side would have resulted in. Maybe his call wasn't textbook perfect but everyone is alive so it was right
@@Stickman-be9pz where are your driving videos showing how skilled you are in an emergency situation?
Holy hell! Way to shoot the gap! Glad you're alright. How bad did you hurt your hands? I've always been taught if your going to hit and no avoiding it just let go of the wheel and crass your arms across your chest.
I was very lucky, and I know I should have let go of the wheel but that is easier said then done!
Yes, lucky you did not break your wrist or arm. But glad you were fine. Was the guardrail supposed to break like that though? I am thinking no because while they need to have a lot of flexibility, they should not break either.
Way too many people shooting their mouths off here... But hey it's RUclips not a more mature platform. He had very little time in a situation that he has most likely never been in before, like most drivers, thankfully. All of 2 seconds after the first few pumps to realize he was screwed and do something. One thing that a lot of drivers are taught is both feet in and keep it straight. Engine braking in a Honda is marginal in my experience. No ebrake because stripped race car. His instinct was to either point to the longer runoff or avoid the closest car. I feel like I would have ridden it out straight ahead to avoid collecting other cars, but I don't think any of us are very well prepared for this kind of dynamic and unexpected situation to know for sure. Spinning intentionally there means you hit the grass sideways at highway speeds, assuming he was close to 90 to start since he did let off a bit. Our car is slower and hit 89 there IIRC. I would rather use the largest crumple zone available, the front. Imagine if he had hit the guard rail sideways... That rail end might have come in the window. Or you might roll. Both scary bad.
Like you say, it's not like he had a lot of time to formulate a plan.
Holy crap!
The worst thing you can do is try to make a turn that is un-makeable. Trying to do a turn you can't make usually just gets you into a roll , or sideways into a wall, neither of which is preferable. Remember that all the crush zones are in the front of the car. It's the strongest part of the frame, use it. On every track, I know where I am going to steer to if the brakes are gone. There may be runnoffs or tires where you need but didn't expect them. Be mentally prepared. One last comment, I understand that you tried to cut the turn in order to avoid creaming somebody in the rear. And it worked out. However, had this been a left turn and you t-boned someone, you would have probably killed them. Glad it worked out.
