Jerry Goldsmith | Fireworks: A Celebration of Los Angeles | London Symphony Orchestra
Просмотров 683 месяца назад
First, however, there's the Bowl project. Goldsmith's piece was commissioned by former Philharmonic managing director Willem Winjnbergen as a new backdrop for the weekend fireworks finale. Titled "Fireworks (A Celebration of Los Angeles)," Goldsmith's piece has a Latin feel. "I've had my share of writing for noise-special effects," he concedes. "But if Handel and Stravinsky can compose for fire...

Anybody know the piece at 23:35?
Hovhaness's Symphony no.38, op.314, S, small orch, 1978. I listed the work as it appears in the New Grove Dictionary of Music Online, here is a citation: Rosner, Arnold, and Vance Wolverton. 2001. "Hovhaness [Hovaness], Alan [Chakmakjian, Alan Hovhaness]." Grove Music Online. doi.org/10.1093/gmo/9781561592630.article.13420. I hope this is helpful.
Wonderful songs: beautifully played and sung. I actually used to have the record as a teenager and got to love them.
Che bellezza!
Do you have more videos on the nine tones ? I love this one
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS. I first heard this in the early 70's.
Omg he was just my teacher!!! (For like 5 days)
Stunning.
Since this concert was about a month before the film released, this could very well be the premier of the Imperial March. Which for such an iconic and well-known piece is very cool to see.
my clarinet teacher at mannes school,,,nicest most generous guy ever rip mr glazer
Wow that was absolutely powerful and gracious, BRAVO! Mr Stoltzman nailed it
A master of taking time - bravo
Appropriately it starts off with "The Cowboys," one of his favorites and he played it often, usually as an encore.
Tallis mostly is known for "Spem in Alium", but these austere tunes show a genius can demonstrate his/her worth regardless the number of voices - Being them four or forty.
This is a fascinating video of a major American composer and conductor, explicating his own music! More, please!
Thank you so much, Dr. Cohen! This means so much to me, coming from the Hanson expert. I'm a PhD candidate studying historical musicology at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati. I'm originally from Lincoln, NE, so I grew up with Hanson like one would with Mozart or Beethoven. My dissertation topic is on SUNY Buffalo between 1956-81. Still, I'd like to make Hanson my secondary research area, especially relating to his '64 treatise and its more significant place within tonality since 1950. I would love to get in contact with you!
The first time I hear it when I was twenty one in 1971, I love it.
🤤 P r o m o S M
the man that started that stupid clarinet dancing that 99 percent of the kids today copy..all form,,,no substance,,save all that wasted energy dancing and jumping around and put it into the music
I would never say anything bad about Stoltzman. I'm glad he's playing today. His sound at his peak was special, full of substance and form, emotional, delicate, sweet and aggressive. He still retains a certain magic. I think Martin Frost is more to blame for the dance
All that long note stuff, very boring to say the least.
Sorry, I had to switch it off
The third one is amazing for sure, but so are the others, albeit less known
The fifth one is gorgeous
10:33 The strings are excellent at playing the harmonica melody like a puppet.
Copeland wrote this for Goodman but he could have just have well written it for Stoltzman. What a magnificent performance.
Bravo
my ex teacher...great great guy
Some subtle vibrato there. I like it.
If this performance was released before ESB was released in theatres what a treat for SW fans to hear.
Tremendous performance all round
Anymore please
i disagree with him on clarinets wearing out..they last long...
Anymore please add
great Stoltzman !!!
todays players sound more english,,no center to it
Harold the king Wright.
Love Richard Stoltzman! Wonderful Person, Musician, and Artist!
he taught Ralph Mclane...and Mclane taught Harold Wright..who had the most beautiful tone ever
Increíble ❤
splendid!
I love this. I will use it teaching for sure
I think his description of his sound as being between the French and German styles is exactly what characterizes the American style. Warmer and rounder than the French style, but not quite so dark as the German style.
There are not many things that say "ENGLAND" as clearly as these glories.
A great movie and soundtrack …
The best of Jerry Goldsmith
Thank you for reminding me of this wonderful recording from the past. I learned the Stamitz from it. God bless you and yours. Bill. UK
Thank you for sharing! Can you tell me which score you used?

No comments?! Really? I was losing my sh*t on Rumba Rumba 😂 I haven't played/listened to this piece since All State Concert Band like 20 years ago! I feel old, but it's one of my absolute favorite band pieces. I'm so happy you uploaded it. Great performance as well. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💕
I loved getting to play the trumpet part. Especially the 1st mvmt is fun. Challenging, but a blast to play once you get it down clean.
@@otterhc9696 I played 1st trombone at this point (plays bass trombone now). I remember rushing too much on Rumba Rumba because was always too excited 😆 man, I miss it. It sounded like the trumpet parts on all the pieces were fun though. Though song of bells is not 'fun to play', so beautiful. Didn't appreciate it enough as a kid.
Played this a few semesters back and was just thinking about it cause I I heard some shanties and it reminded me of this piece. While listening to it i was like hmm ik there is a pain in the ass movement I hated? Then the 4th movement started and I was like ah yes Rumba Rumba...
This movie is incredibly underrated
The best recording of this piece hands down.
Amazing
Such a haunting and elegant score
Great rendition!
Beautiful!!
Thank You Mr Ludwig!
