Susquehanna River Smallmouth Fishing When the River is Too Low and Clear
Просмотров 55614 дней назад
#susquehannariver #smallmouthbass #bassfishing Early Fall on the Susquehanna River can be a real challenge when the water level drops. I tried my best at City Island, but I just couldn't get to very many fish. So, I packed up and headed south to Conowingo Reservoir. I had much better luck there!
Super Shallow Spinnerbaits for Summer Smallies on the Susquehanna
Просмотров 331Месяц назад
#smallmouthbass #susquehannariverfishing #pafishing I filmed this video mid August on the Susquehanna River. I honestly can’t remember the brand of spinnerbait I used. I don’t think it matters that much for these hungry guys. Water temps were in the low 80’s. I got the idea for shallow spinnerbaits from this episode of Fishing the DMV: ruclips.net/video/L_it82hspwY/видео.html

    I run a jet with a thin riveted hull and I’m frankly scared to death of puncturing it in that river. Seeing you in a v hull with a prop keeps me going. I know the river is up quite a bit here but even some of the places up river I’ve seen you fishing are questionable to me.

    • @GillRaker79
      @GillRaker79 Месяц назад

      Thankfully my boat drafts pretty shallow since it’s very light. That said, I definitely hit the bottom somewhat often. On my third prop in the last 6 months. I do go super slow first time I go somewhere, then follow the gps route after that. I’ve been considering this my “learning boat” and plan on upgrading this winter, so I’m not too afraid to bang it up. I was on this stretch a couple weeks ago and it got scary shallow in these same spots. Regretted it when the current whisked me over some very shallow boulders and rocked my trolling motor. Fixed it but staying away til the water is high again. Good luck out there. I dream of having a jet boat

      @@GillRaker79 no doubt. I follow a similar approach but rocks don’t discriminate at 30mph. Jet is a must on most stretches of the upper Potomac that are worth fishing. Everything else around is electric only anyway.

      Thanks for the sub! That’s awesome. Yeah they can get pretty dark in the Susqy. Huge variability in coloring for some reason

    Is that the Susquehanna Flats that you’re fishing?

    Nice fish man. I sadly remain fish less on my Chad Shad and 6 1/2” Draw. The banks of my local lake don’t have many deadfall trees. It’s sort of like fishing in a salad bowl.

      That sucks man. Yeah that doesn't sound like ideal conditions. Maybe in the fall when the grass is dying out or the spring prespawn before the grass when the bass are fattening up on big baitfish. I tried my best fishing the big Draw but the action sucked so bad I put it away. The spro chad is a million times better than the Draw imo. Good luck man

      @@GillRaker79 I don’t love the 6.5” draw either, but I switched to it thinking it was a little smaller than the Chad Shad and they’d be more likely to hit it. I have caught a couple on a Flow Glide and S-waver.
