I hated the FF5 soundtrack when I first played it on the anthology collection. Everything about it grated my ears in way that didn't affect me the same way Final Fantasy 4 did and Final Fantasy 6 was a perfect example of what sound could be on the Super Nintendo. Somehow 5 did everything wrong. The pixel remaster finally presented the music in a way I knew should be good, but never experienced it.

All the tracks here are great! My personal favorite is “Sunken Shrine”. It gives off the vibes of “we’re going to die anyway, but we still need to succeed in our mission”.

Castle damcyan - very cool.

They made the Emperor's Revival sound more intense and menacing it fits even more perfectly than the PSP arrangement

I really like the rearranged version of Kefka's theme. The original sounded a bit too comical (in the final part of the story in particular), but here, it starts of whimsical before exploding triumphantly into a twisted military orchestra, with trombones to boot. The second verse even strengthens the instrumentation from the first one, foreshadowing Kefka's resiliency and story arc of becoming the very epitome of character trope "from nobody to nightmare".

This version of the Dream Oath Opera sucks *_horribly._* The female singer's voice drills into my head like it's trying to kill my brain using icepicks through my ears. She's awful.

Let’s be honest, Pandaemonium straight up slaps. Just beat this a couple days ago. It’s not the best Nobuo OST but it deserves so much more love than it gets. There are a ton of bangers here.

Lifelong FF fan. Finally picked this up on steam. I knew they had upgraded the music but I didn’t know they used a real orchestra. Now I’m so stoked to play through all 6! This just totally made my entire day. It sounds amazing!

Love the battle theme arranged for wind quintet! The dialogue created between the oboe and the french horn and then the intertwined melodies of the flute and the bassoon are so cool! The clarinet doesn't fall behind with all those fast notes 🤯🤯

Forbidden land, Eureka is really a so nice music ! I am here mainly for this song ! Perfect sound !

This version of Narsche Mines is so good omg. Groovy sax and a mysterious little plucky string section? Beautiful. They did not have to go nearly this hard, and yet they did

The OST has its fair share of problems. The muted trumpet VST is used far too much, and the themes seem a bit forced and out of place.

Of the 6 Pixel Remasters, I felt 2, 4 and 6 probably had better songs overall in them but the 5 OST is probably the best one to listen all the way through while doing some work or whatever.

I like what they tried to do, but the mixed quality of the tracks (e.g., you get full orchestral awesomeness on one track, then some cheap synthesizer noise on Metamorphosis) really did this a disservice. Or the songs were "re-interpreted" and no longer fit the game section they're used in (the Narshe theme, in particular, now belongs in a 1980s softcore porn movie and Slam Shuffle is just stupid and synthy; it's like circus music now instead of being the soundtrack to a seedy town full of thieves and liars...yet another fail from Kataoka, who wasn't content with fucking up Narshe's theme). If they'd tighten this up and kick Kataoka out, this could be the best OST ever made in the history of video games.

The new overworld theme for this game was so good

I just beat the game last week and I gotta say, this is such a great game. It’s not my favorite that I have played but the customization made this game very much worth my while. And even though overall I found its predecessor to be a superior product over all, this game still kicked ass. And one thing it did better than FFIV was the soundtrack. Nobuo Uematsu even said this soundtrack was something he was satisfied with which is something I don’t think he said about the previous games’ soundtrack. The Main Theme, Cursed Lands, Sorrows Of Parting, The Day Will Come, Exdeath’s Theme, Castle Exdeath, Unknown Lands, and the Neo Exdeath theme are phenomenal tracks. They even play the Main Theme of the original Final Fantasy at the end of the game (which coincidentally is the main theme of Final Fantasy IV as well just not as heroic and epic sounding). But the cherry on top of this phenomenal track is none other than Battle On The Big Bridge. As a whole I give this game an 8/10, but the soundtrack is definitely a 10/10.
