Both the Alfa and Matra are interesting models, quite rare in the UK but probably easy to find in France. I got mine in a set ,found it for sale in the museum shop, it was the automobile museum in Mougins on the autoroute near Cannes, must have been around 1990 when I was at the Tax free world exhibition in Cannes. The Alfa looks great, excellent modelling skills.

Cracking paint job. I try to use etch primer on every resto i do. Found like you. ordinary primer does not take to die castings. even on mono layers, I tend to get various problems like blow holes due to some reaction or another. I had to buy the battery holder from model supplies. I came in the form that you stripped yours down to. Still couldnt get mine to work, It also needs the holder packing out in places. sits sloppy in the baseplate without it

NOP... preservation is much more important on a vintage slot car than ruining it with "upgrades". You are not RESTORING.. Don't confuse the term. I could see if it was in bad condition. Then , yes, a complete overhaul would be in line. But that slot car was in good condition. Restoring missing parts would have been the order of the day. But, hey, to each his own. I prefer REAL RESTORATION PROJECTS...

Very nice methods of painting, masking IS ALWAYS a problem, but these older cars turn out so well , that's why I love customising them into a new lease of life....
