Tutankham is Released At Home! #konami #arcade #retro
I wanted to love this game as a 8 year old who loved soccer, but could never find anyone to play with me. I had two sisters that were totally uninterested. Friends that would come over would be instantly turned off by the 45 minutes showing on the clock, lol.
It brought me back to all the games in the 70s that you needed a human person to play it with you. Moving forward, we will get more games with a computer opponent. Cheers!
I'm waiting in eager anticipation for the comments from moms who played International Soccer on the Atari VCS 40 years ago.
Haha! Still waiting...
Merchant of Venus. I gotta' tell that to my brother; he's the pun-master.
First video game named after a Shakespeare play!
There is something I have always found a bit confusing in this era. Why did so many games simply fail to load? At the time, there were three types of media that games typically came on. The cartridge was the only format that actually worked as intended 99.9% of the time. The 5x11 and later 3x5 floppies were okay, but they still had high failure rates. Tape cassettes were just awful and would fail to load at least 50% of the time. You could have three identical copies of a game across the three media types, and only one worked properly. The data is there, so what gives? When I got into computers we would crack CD's and load them onto multiple floppies and we never had an issue as severe as it used to be. Oh, and remember, "Don't copy that floppy!" ;)
Cassettes were cost effective, and disks could hold more data. Carts were expensive to manufacture couldn't hold the most. Oh yes I do remember ;)
@chronologicallygaming But why did cassettes and disks fail to work constantly. Sometimes you would have to load a game 3 to 4 times before you could play for 10 minutes. It was terrible. A cart was automatic even back on the C128.
Kroozr has the same Control method of Tron (tanks and shooting sections) and Front Line - not exactly a twin stick more a twin set of controls AND i suspect this is the same base system that will be used for Tapper, Timber, Spy Hunter and Rampage in the years on: low res background and high res interlaced sprites
Great point! Only time will tell...
Wacko I know, but Kosmic is totally new to me. Wow. Cool one
Nice! Wacko will be played later too!
It is impressive that they managed to recreate Gorf on Commodore VIC-20. That maze game from before where monster was slowly approaching you was more scary for me.
3D Monster Maze was the scariest game of 1982!
One of the things I love about this show is when I discover an obscure game I didn't know I could like. K-Razy Antiks looks really fun and different enough. Playing games from over a decade before I was born and coming from a country where home computers practically ruled during the whole decade (besides the Atari 2600) it's amazing. Since here the NES and the SNES arrived a few years apart in the '90s, there's a schism between '80s and '90s gamers even bigger than in the US or Western Europe, so most of these titles are totally obscure for me. Nightmare Park, Exterminate, Defense Command, Warp Destroyer, K.C. Munchkin, Star Warrior, Star Post, Shamus, The Quest for the Rings of Power, Caverns of Mars, Salmon Run and Stun Trap are all games I've played thanks to this channel.
That's great to hear! We will keep going and uncovering more and more. 1983 will be a wacky year! Cheers!
Where i can find the Game and Watch song???
Check out the Launchbox forums. They might have it there. I would love it too!
boxing atari is funny and very good
Karate is funny too, but the hit detection is poor. Watching the evolution of Fighting games is going to be fun.

Freedom Fighters is one of the best games on videopac so far. Very smooth and i like fire engine animations. I don t have that background space in my version. Is it image from mame or something ?
It came with the bezel pack. Cheers!

Why is Anteater collecting colorfull balls underground ?
Needs a snack to go with the ants?
2.5 for unofficial ASCII frogger. That's what 5 pounds 99 gets you. 4 for official TRS-80 release- very good. 3.5 Tomy Tutor version. Was thinking 3, but I will reserve that for the next version as this version is better than that one for sure. Just a 3 for VideoPac, and not because of the grainy music which could be an emulation issue. Small sprites vs large tiles, very little sound, just appears to be nowhere near the fun level of the official TRS-80 release.
Great breakdown! Thanks and we will catch ya on the next live show!
"Horace Goes Skiing" the best jaywalking simulator in town
I have to agree
Tornado is a little different than other similar games because you can touch enemies expect red ones and still kill them. Focus is later more on protection. Tron was great but i couldn t aim with keyboard. I managed to complete 3/4 minigames without aiming.
It does require some tinkering, or better yet, find an arcade with it!
Swashbuckler is very cool. Even now they make similar games on mobile.
I'll pretend that doesn't exist...
MIssionX is upgraded version of Sky Raider from 1978. We can see ton of improvements. Fully colored graphic. Enemies that fight back. Levels that change colors.
Excellent point! Thanks for the comment!
Gravitar is Lunar Lander on steroids. whatever you do, don't enter that red star, or you aren't coming back out
Oh it's so good! Thanks for the comment!
I can imagine alot of arcade machines with this game have dents in them.
Only it was on your home computer!
Ya I remember front line . Blast from the past . A&W back in 80s seemed old then I sucked at it wasted a buck never laid eyes on it again..till now don't remember a home version.
Too cool!
I played lost ark 😃like a maniac and I did finish the games in 1984 E.t was more hard but I like it 😮
Whoa! Never would have finished it without a manual
Very good history book that was made in still early years of video games. After i once again checked the best games of 1981. I decided to give first place to Fantasy. There is proper game ending. Very good art. Music is awesome and they added various sound effects what other games lacked. They also added continue play so you can fail and experience content with practice. They combined various games together and they work well. Lastly there is boss fight at the end and cutscene.
Excellent! Very well deserved
great episode, i love horace... that inheritance game is brilliant, i've not seen that before
Thanks for watching! Cheers!
The history of horace is quite fun. Those little pixels you see sometimes from his side is not an arm but is actually a pony tail. It was a discussion point for many years. Great video. Excelsior
Keep those little tid-bits coming! Cheers!
The Great Wallstreet....I'd rather play Pac Man on the 2600. My God the sound is the most grating thing I have ever heard. No wonder the industry crashed with "games" like that releasing. Yuck. Addendum- I can't wait until you hit 1985-1986. That's when the industry explodes with incredible, must play games.
Gimme a few years... Cheers!
Considering how incredibly inefficient BASIC is in terms of processor usage, Atari 8-bit Hopper isn't terrible. One of the best type-in games I've seen. Minigolf type-ins are ones that usually got me hooked back in the day, including for the Color Computer.
Nice! We played some of those too! Cheers!
👍💪
Haha! Thanks!
Hard! 😮
Level 9 difficulty!
Gobbler: tile BASIC not tile based, and that cover is made with the ZX printer
Great facts! Love your comments! Keep it up!
Hard Hat looks interesting. I was also going to suggest that it could be a Spectrum game. It would be faster pace without the solid walls. Gobbler looks like it was written in BASIC. I think that I could do better.
i suggest either basic or FP compiled (was not too performing) - HardHat i wanted a speccy port so bad! (had a speccy at that time)
@@simonebernacchia5724 Back in the 1980s I noticed that Berserk had a graphics limitation similar to computers like the Spectrum. When the character gets too close to other objects it changes their color to be the same as the main character. This implies that every 8x8 group of pixels can only have one foreground color, like on the Spectrum. It either has memory mapped video with this color limitation, like the Spectrum, or it has character based graphics like the VIC-20. Berserk probably doesn't have sprites. I don't think that Space Invaders does either. Compare this Pac-Man also released in 1980. It has 3 color sprites that can overlap each other. It apparently has a large color pallette since we see a flesh color in a cut scene. I assume that the Pac-Man video hardware was much more expensive. In 1980 memory was very expensive, with 64K costing around a thousand dollars. Memory limitations were often the reason why graphics were more primitive The Atari 2600 is the ultimate example of this with only 120 bytes of RAM. It would have been much easier for programmers if Atari had designed the 2600 with 4, 6, or 8K of RAM. I wish they had. By 1980 I had already written primitive games in BASIC on home computers. Later I became I video game programmer. However, I didn't know what sprites were. None of the home computers had them. So when Pac-Man came out, I was puzzled trying to understand how the game displayed its graphics. It was pretty easy to understand how Spaced Invaders worked. I assumed that each pixel was memory mapped. I made a similar assumption for Pac-Man, but I assumed that it had a 16 color screen and that it was drawing the characters to the screen. Since the characters can overlap each other, I assumed that it was drawing all the characters on each frame. Just a side note: Due to the limited number of sprites on the Galaga game, it uses a single sprite to display the double bullets. It didn't have any sprites to spare.
I could see that as a late ZX Spectrum game. Cheers!
Gobbler past fast, no wonder 😄
😋
you did miss nothing ! great job -no small job ,
Thanks so much!
Oh no, 30 bucks in 1981 is $104.06 today. An IBM PC cost $1,565.00 in 1981 on average, which comes to $5,428.45 today! What a steal! ;)
Is that all?! I'll go get one now!
I think this game does not get the recognition it deserves, a proto run and gun where you control where you go on a scrolling screen and you can hop in and out of vehicles.
One of the best arcade games you can play right now!
The horsey game manual showed that you could control 2 horses with controllers in one of the pictures. So not just a betting game I guess.
Yes you can! I went back and played it and it was much better than a betting game.
what we see that what we get -perfect chanel
Thank you! You rock!
Joined live for the first time recently and I will say it was very bizarre seeing my username on my TV screen in the chat, never done that before, I'm more of a leave a comment afterwards kind of guy lol it was fun though. Also is there a longer version of your intro song? My 4 year old loves to dance to it but its over in like 20 seconds lol
That's great to hear! I'm not sure about the song, but if you find an entire clip, let me know! Thanks for the comment during and after the show!
Galaxians appears to be too fast. The ship moves left and right more quickly and the enemies attack quicker than the arcade. The sudden horizontal motion of one of the aliens doesn't match the arcade behavior.
Not a perfect port, but a great game right now in November 1982. Maybe they could have changed the name?

Simple, but I was addicted to it.😁
Excellent! Thanks for the share
I remember playing Front Line on the Famicom (via an NES multicart) back in the day.
Woo hoo! Since it's 1982, I'll pretend you're speaking that crazy future talk. Talks of multicarts and famicoms...
Hey, you did see galaxian on the spectrum first! (not an official version but a very well done one)
That's right! Here is where we listed all the games called Galaxian: ruclips.net/video/YLPSNEx3yqI/видео.html
I remember enjoying Front Line in the arcade back in the day. I have the Ikari Warriors controller that was released some months ago, and it has settings for Front Line, though of course the fire button is off to the side. I haven't tried it with the game though- it requires changing the knob I believe as you can go from 8-way to 12-way to I think 16-way to free spinning. Anyway, I give the arcade game a 4.5. For Galaxian, I struggle to give it anything more than a 3.5- it does not play like the original at all, the sound is not great, and- where are the Galaxians? Those special enemies seen at the top in the arcade are missing entirely. I think Namco held a really tight grip on this IP as besides this game missing the actual Galaxian enemy, many ports of Gorf were entirely missing the Galaxian level.
Excellent comment! Galaxian was a tricky one to pin down, so maybe 3.5 for everything out there on home computers... Ask me tomorrow and it might be back at 4 stars.
Frontline reminds me of the NES game Commando. I wonder if it was an inspiration?
Bingo! Commando got it's inspiration from this!
Shame you missed the targets.. Explosions were very satisfying when destroying the enemy.. Try the 100% machine code Vic games by Jeff minter..They're fantastic for a 3.5k games..😉👍
Will do. Thanks for the comment!
Did u play "Zor" as well? Simple but addictive..
Yes we did! It was wild! ruclips.net/video/uxgFkiJyBnk/видео.html
