Sambar Hunters Edge
Австралия
Добавлен 22 фев 2024
This Channel, ‘Sambar Hunter’s Edge’, hopes to share knowledge about sambar deer and show some facets about sambar hunting in Victoria, Australia.
The primary reason for setting up this channel was to publish my video; An Introduction to Sambar Deer Sign. This video is targeted at the new deer hunter and it will, I am sure, advance ones learning experience.
It is not an exaggeration to say; “Sambar and deer hunting are a passion for me.” So, as we develop, you will find the occasional hunting clips showing old blokes having fun.
Now for the disclaimer. I can be notoriously difficult to contact. I spend a lot of time in the bush, the phone reception is crap and the internet is no existent. But I do eventually get around to answering my emails.
I hope you find some enjoyment from my ramblings.

Sambar Stag Carry-out. Is It Worth It?
Packing out an entire sambar stag apart from some bones. It's easy when you watch someone else do it!

Thanks you so much for all the information I’m a young boy that wants to get into hunting and learn more but me parents aren’t really hunters and not too many people around me so I found this extremely useful again thanks so much
Thank you for taking the time to forward your comments. My older brother and myself also developed an interest in hunting at an early age, and like yourself, had no one close to us to help us on our journey. We were drawn to magazines books and articles with a thirst for knowledge. When we were old enough, we went hunting. We are now both in our seventies and hunt with a passion. If I can offer some advice. Choose your hunting companions and who you take advice from well, treat the game with respect and walk proud. Deer hunting is a great adventure and the path of a true hunter is not easy. At times you will be wet, you will be cold or battling heat and flies, you will be exhausted and pushed to your limits. But your soul will be rich, and the rewards will be priceless. I wish you well.
@@SambarHuntersEdge-lf2qq thank you so much I think I have already picked a companion one of my best friends and at school I try to read magazines and videos at home to deepen my knowledge
You said some beautiful words there my friend. We all have to do our best, it’s the least we can do to honour the life of such majestic animals 🦌🏆 Beautiful stag! Congratulations, well deserved
well said Mauricio, "to honor the life."
Hey mate you are a legend. New hunter here been reading a lot lately but nothing like understanding like this. A true masterclass. Thanks so much 🙏 I’ll watch a couple of times and take notes for the field for sure 👍
Thank you for taking the time to comment. Good hunting.
The price of meat in 2024… how can you not take every bit you can carry
Michael, thank you for your comment. I would hate to calculate the full expenditure over my 54 years of hunting sambar per Kilo of meat recovered.
By far the best explanation I have seen, your knowledge is worth bottling, I for one would buy a slab of it
Thank you Ian. Knowledge should be shared.
Well done Peter When u accomplish the whole package it what it all about and shows full respect to the animal.
All game animals deserve respect from the hunter. Without respect for the animal we are not hunters, just killers.
All game deserves respect. Without respect we are not hunters just killers.
Bloody good video. Made me rethink the ages of scat sign when I see it. Looking forward to learning more from your videos. Thanks for making this!
Thank you for watching and your feedback. Good hunting.
Such an absolute wonderful video I've been waiting for years as new deet hunter , many thanks mate
With a bit of luck, there will be more to follow.
Hi peter awsome deer is it worth im 50 bloody oath its worth it keeps u away from doctor!! Wont to congratulate u on the introduction to deer very positive formative. No good to me cause ive learnt country dont need to look at signe much very true and possitive stuff well done. Subscribed to ya channel rosco.
Thank you Rosco.
Great work, I shot my first Sambar last year. Took the lot, including the hide and tanned it.. MADE an incredible floor rug.
Congratulations Anthony. Your sambar made more than an incredible floor rug, it made an incredible memory and experience. You have had the total package.
It really angers me how people just take the heads and leave the rest
Jack, having respect for what we hunt is the true key to success. Good hunting.
Absolutely well done, I commend you sir.!!! I don't leave anything behind.!
I appreciate that!
That was a crackin video mate! Bloody good going for 69 hope I’m still doing then. I would have opened the gate for ya digger 😂👍🏻
I'm almost 73, the gate's the least of my problems.
Hi Peter at about 39 minutes you say its almost impossible to walk up on a deer in this sort of bush. Is that because it's very open and the deer can see you coming?
Nick, thanks for the question. If you have a look, (34 min mark) the bush although it may look open it is not with visibility down to about 20 meters. It is also very dry underfoot and covered with sticks and leaf litter making it very noisy. Sambar are extremely alert when they are in their bed. I for one would not have the ability to consistently see sambar under these circumstances. They would hear me and be onto me in a flash. Regards and good hunting.
nice job mate and awesome carryout! give me a call for the next one and ill gladly give yer a hand👍
Gary, now that's what I call an offer!!!
@@SambarHuntersEdge-lf2qq phone call away mate😂
Absolutely spot on
Thank you.
Pete, You talked about this at an ADA hunter ed course 25 years ago and it has stuck with me. No matter how hard the carry-out is, honour the deer and get out everything that can be used. Then there is always the price of meat at the butcher shop to consider too.
David, as you know, deer hunting is not about killing.
Bloody awesome mate it is so good to see someone else take the whole animal and not just the head. Love ya work.
Thank you.
Well done Peter great hunt, and impressive carry out mate. Much Respect for what you’re doing there, have done the hard yards enough times to know how hard it is and I’m only 38 Bet you’re already thinking about the next one.. Cheers!
38 I wish! Yes, I am thinking of the next one, it never stops. Thank you.
Awesome, beast 👍
Thank you.
Great stag. You're spot on about what you said. You are an inspiration! I hope to be able to do that when I'm your age. Keep the vids coming.
Thank you. Some more vids in the pipeline.
Appreciate your video and message, mate. While there may be some cases where deer can't be recovered, and some people may choose to not eat rutty bucks in the rut, if we ever want to stop the helicopters from culling the deer, we need to advocate for the venison. It's harder to defend the idea of hunters wanting big trophies and we don't like choppers leaving them in the bush, but much easier for us to say that hundreds of deer getting left to rot in the bush from chopper culls is a tremendous waste of free range protein, that grew in the bush, by itself, for free.
For hunters, sambar deer are the most respected, sought after and valued game animal in Australia. Unfortunately, current trends labelling and treating all deer as pests takes away any respect for the animal.
Awesome mate, well done .That is a true hunter .Not only for the head and the many good meals you will share with friends and family.Keep it up young man 👍👍🍻🍻
Thank you, hopefully I can keep at it.
Good on you mate, awesome effort.
Thank you.
Thank you for such a comprehensive coverage of Sambar, although I have been hunting them for a fair time you can always pick up some tips from others. All of your observations on wallow and preach/scrape activity is confirmed by my trailcam videos. Top job 👍, subbed and liked.
Thank you. The day I stop learning something about sambar will be a day I have fooled myself.
Great stag and great accomplishment mate, like you I'm the wrong side of 65 and I fully understand what you are saying. It took me and my wife three days to recover the last stag I shot in pretty gnarly country but the feeling of accoplishment as we got to the truck with the last load was off the dial. Then seeing my grandsons and their parents feasting on the beautiful meals the stag provided us with so much satisfaction
Wayne we are still vertical and still doing it. That puts us on the right side of the grass, still hunting and over 65. You nailed it with one word. Satisfaction. My congratulations to you and your wife. Mine was an easy carry-out in comparison.
Great work some of the young fellas should take a leaf out of your booK
You need to get yourself a young fella or two for the carry mate!!! Nice work. Cheers for the vid. 🍻😎
Got a young fella who hunts with us, he's 66. He gets the big carry outs!
Thank you Peter. A great teacher and entertainer. Love it
Thank you for watching.
At 65 I'm feeling the pressure of the retreive. Your an inspiration. 👍
I'm lucky, I've been at this for over 53 years and there's a lot of hunters out there that are my inspiration.
Hahah I love this great job mate 👍 you’re a legend
Thank you.
On ya mate what a weapon 69 and still putting in the effort and punching into the hills loaded.
I'm not alone, there's a few of us keeping at it till we drop,
Congratulations, nice deer. At 69 you show the young guns how is it done, respect!
Thank you.
You can't eat the antlers! 😂
Unless of course they're velvet and you are into Chinese medicine.
Moved to North East VIC 2 years ago. 10 Acer surrounded by dairy farms and state Forest. Deer bloody everywhere. Loving my new rural Life.....thanks for this mate. Top stuff
Thank you. Hopefully more to come.
I know people who only take trophies and backstaps and it hurts. Gota make the most of a animal you take. Great stuff mate. Got a sub just for that. Looking forward to watching more. Cheers
Thank you Paul.
100% agree mate, the real prize is the experience. Keep the videos coming, love em mate!
will try, a couple in the pipeline.
Great work young man your are a machine .
The motor could do with a tune -up but it's still running.
nice work!
Thanks for watching.
Well done mate I agree with you totally - just wasting a valuable resource unless you pack it all out
It is relative to how much we value the animal.
Well done mate.
thank you
I'm 68 and I know your pain.
Pain? we have to be alive to feel it. Make the most of it while we can.
Good on ya
Thanks 👍
Awesome job
Thanks!
Well done mate. I fully agree with you
The best thing is: there's a lot of hunters out there who go the full yard and beyond.
Thank you for the video! Great delivery and content! Really appreciate the time and effort put in to share your knowledge
Thank you. What's the point of knowledge if we don't share it?
had to replay and listen to the audio a bot louder when you said pluck the dog. phew. great video mate very informative.
Plucking the dog. That's the sort of comment that just falls out when you don't have a script!
Awesome video, much respect and appreciation coming from a new hunter that haven’t even come close to a sambar in 4 years😂
Hi Charlie, for many of us it's a long apprenticeship. Stick with it, the rewards are priceless.
Highly informative. Feeling really grateful much appreciate
Thank you.
Mate you are a legend. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge.
Thank you.
Most informative, constructive and practical demonstration of how to piece the puzzle together. Really enjoyable. This is a must watch for not just New hunters but a brilliant refresher for experienced hunters! 10/10, loved n subbed 😊
Thank you for the compliment. I know how hard it was to access information when my brother and I started out 54 years ago!
