Grischa Niermann: Masterminding Visma-Lease A Bike's bounceback
Team Visma-Lease a Bike entered 2024 as the undisputed kings of the male peloton. Their riders had won every Grand Tour in 2023, their star rider Jonas Vingegaard looked was aiming to win his third straight Tour de France, amongst their 72 race victories.
Instead, the gods of cycling had different plans. The team suffered misfortune with star riders Wout van Aert and Jonas Vingegaard amongst the team's riders who suffered serious, season altering crashes. That was before factoring in a resurgent Team UAE Emirates led by Tadej Pogacar - who enjoyed one of the greatest seasons ever in pro cycling.

Live at El Tour de Tucson: How to win an Olympic medal with Chloe Dygert and Nelson Vails
Просмотров 18121 день назад
Bobby and Jens return to the El Tour de Tucson and host a special episode looking back at 40 years of Olympic history. Back in 1984, Nelson Vails became the first, and to date, only black American cyclist to achieve an Olympic medal when he won a sprint silver in Los Angeles. 20 years later, Bobby himself earned an Olympic silver on the streets of Athens. In 2024, Chloe Dygert earned her second...

How Chris Boardman got the edge on his Time Trial rivals
I am surprised that no question was asked about Simon Yates. he's an interesting and important signing.
Wouldve been cool to find out about the command centre bus they had at TDF
Thank you guys for the Great content! Merry Christmas
Brilliant
Bad luck started when Primož left the team.
Because he took all the crashes for the team himself
52 year old cycling addict and occasional amateur racer here, absolute joy to have discovered your podcast guys, these insights are so interesting, I’ve watched many of your episodes and enjoyed every single one, particularly interesting to hear modern ‘rest’ periods for professional cyclists as mentioned by Thibau’s Dad too. Been a follower and fan of you both since watching ‘Overcoming’ back in your CSC days. Merry Christmas to you both and thanks for sharing your love for the sport for us all to enjoy.
Hiw can someone in this position in a team not even know the extent of Jona's injuries? BS as usual...
These guys talking about vingegaard beating pogacar in 2023 while pogacar rode with a fracture and using that as a reason? Are they okei? this is not coping? wtf how delusional can you literally be🤣 Ofc its like grischa says Pogacar is the best in the world by a huge margin
Average pog fan iq
@@whtneedsb facts are facts its hard to ignore. And its not like its close Vingegaard is in fact way closer to Evenepoel than he actually is Pogacar.
@@whtneedsb still facts which are hard to ignore for anyone with a functioning brain. Just thought id help you out.
next level delusional if they tihnk they can do anything about Pogacar. Only way they have a chance vs pogacar is if Pogacar crash he is so much better than the next man its insane. Evenepoel and Vingegaard are pretty close.
I think you are the one that is next level delusional Pogacar d rider drone.
Jonas was nearly dead 8 weeks pre tour.......
@@jamesd5241 Little bro Jonas is a good rider but he isnt close to Pogacar thats just BS he isnt its very very easy to understand if u you have any braincells at all. He is still good tho, pogacar is just three times better and it is what it is.
@ wow how mature you are. Just so its clear Pog got smashed 2x by Jonas already. And 8 weeks post having punctured lungs and being in ICU (much worse than a wrist fracture) Jonas beat him in a sprint for stage win at the tour. Id say the guy is pretty good. Of course Pog is also amazing. But no need to over blow it
@@jamesd5241Jonas won two tours of Pog but it was not close to the dominance that Pog had over Jonas this last year. There was really only 1 stage two years ago that Pog completely bonked on. The TT was the stage I would say Jonas bested him. Two years ago was the Covid year when uae had 5 riders for most of the tour. That is a recipe for disaster lol. Jonas can still beat Pog though! This is racing of course. But please don’t say he almost died. He was not close to dying. To many cyclists have died for you to speak like this.
Thanks again! 🐝

32:15 Ah Jensie, always believing in the breakaway 😂
😊🙏
Tanfield is a legend.
Best wishes, Harry! Wish someone as motivated would address the eerily similar issues with US road cycling…
Awesome as always guys.
Super podcast! Love the sincerity of Kim A and all his insights in the cycling team world ! Thanks to all:-)
as always, another great show with 4 Olympic cycling legends!
What an awesome episode! Living legends all! Great to meet you and Chloe in Tucson, Bobby… Jens, so sorry I did not get the chance to meet you as well. Nelson Vails…Groundbreaking champion! Thank you all so much!
Nelson Vails! Amazing to hear from the legend.
Wow, everyone had beautiful stories to share. Thanks so much for this!
As always, thanks guys for being part of El tour. All 4 of you on this episode are amazing people and ambassadors of the sport. Your time is appreciated. Already looking forward to the next one.
Great job. She’s very impressive.
And still so early in her career! Glad you enjoyed the pod!
Pogi's one of trusted climbing helpers and also if there's an opportunity to ride for himself as he rode very strong. Next year might be in another level as he proved like he did finished 5th in Il Lombardia. I think he will ride again for Pogi's climbing shepherds in the 2025 Tour de France with A.Yates, Almeida and the debut guy Jay Vine.
Kristen is a true role model of how it is possible to be a great person along with being a great athlete. Thank you for this wonderful discussion!
@@ShawnIsBatman glad you enjoyed it Shawn!
I just came back and listened to this for a second time. Enjoyed it even more! I think everyone loves both Kasia and Lucinda so no surprise about their friendly respect. Can't wait for 2025!
If everyone was to stop when Demi went down what’s the point? Waiting for her to get up and start again?
Did they actually talk about the 2025 tour route?
Really cool chat. Nice info on the CX. He must have some really good support and management.
I like how Cadel’s persona is so similar to Christopher Reeve’s Clark Kent. Similarly Cadel was a man of steel too 👏
Jens' written stage by stage preview is now live on the Odd Tandem Patreon!
Just discovered the podcast and looking forward to the offseason catching up on all these!
Welcome aboard Matthew!
Bobby and Jens are sooo respectful about giving their guests a complete opportunity to speak… but This Time, we get to hear a bit from Bobby, too. Great episode!!! Thanks guys!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great show. Thank you. My question would be - and sorry for raising this again - out of all the cyclists that you found out later had doped, who did you like and still like once you knew?
Thank you, Guys! Actually, Kim W is a man! No worries…the name fools most people! 😂
Oop my bad! 😭
@ Again, no worries! I love the podcast and thank you for having my question answered! 🙏🙏
'If my critics saw me walk on water, they would say it is because I cannot swim'... brilliant!
Definitely considering whacking it on a t shirt...
It is impossible not to like this guy...
He's the best!
I was there in Stavanger for his first win on the road. I actually have a clip of him crossing the line and pics from the podium 🙂
That's super cool! Always great to be a part of history right?
Its already my favorite podcast, warum? Finally expert hosts, they really know what they talking about, nice guests, good questions, etc. Thanks for that!
We're so glad you're enjoying it!
I moved to Belgium in 2010 and would go to the Cross races to watch his dad. Little Thibau would come out of his dad's caravan on a tiny bike and ride the course.. Then come back and sit with his dog. He was destined to be a champ..
We've still not got over the chat with his dad a few weeks back - Sven told us they used to tape Thibau's feet into his bike so he could ride the course! Born to do it!
I don't even follow bike riding and haven't been on a bike for 45 years but somehow I ended up watching this interview. And I've been so inspired! She is an amazing woman, so sweet and kind and determined and competitive and determined to help. I love her!
Glad you enjoyed it! Lael's so full of joy, I can understand why you felt inspired... It's never too late to start your next bike ride...
What a fantastic interview, and a wonderful woman ! And what an attitude towards life, if you take anything from this interview it’s this, be as happy and lovely as this lady.
Definitely, hard not to come away a little inspired, right?
Great to see him back ❤
We're glad he's back
Love this interview! Kasia is the reason I started following women's cycling in 2022 so love this! Thank you guys for doing this, great questions and totally loved it!
Glad you enjoyed it! We're big Kasia fans too!
Kasia is amazing, always attacking, always positive. Thank you for this interview 🙌🇵🇱
Thanks Piotr!
Tubulars?
I am going through this too! 6 months ago, I was getting super fit to compete in UCI Masters World Granfondo Championships, but I was hit by an erratic van driver while training in Spain, I'm still battling with the repercussions of concussion, whip lash and of course a few broken bones. Thank god, my 35 years of sport and strength training saved me from more damage,¡. ( 64 year old menopausal woman) last year had a dexa scan that said I had top level for my age...Like Tako, I lost memory, no tolerance for stimulation and cycling ( which I've done for most of my life) has been a struggle. I am naturally a fighter, but I am learning that Brain injuries can not be bought. there is no normal timeline, Small steps are the frustrating truth. thanks for interviewing him. Brain injuries are " invisible" injuries and people don't understand
@@nrjetik1 thanks so much for sharing your story. I think we're all learning as we go with these brain injuries, I really wish you well with your ongoing recovery, here's to many more small steps in the future!
IF you do the static force balance analysis, given a 1:1 gear ratio, than the size of the gears falls out. Of course, that ignores friction and flex.
great interview, thanks!
@@CreatexColors glad you enjoyed it! 🙌
