François Morel - Étude de Sonorité no 2 (1954) So here’s the first of several 20th century pieces I’ve been wanting to upload. This ‘Etude de sonorité’ was written by the Canadian composer, François Morel in 1954. As well as the flamboyant style and the hammered 3rd finger theme, I find the harmonies really interesting and, as the name suggests, there are plenty of effects using the piano’s son...

Wonderful playing!! do you take requests? if u do can u try mereux op 63 no.24 bravura? if its too difficult what about Liszt s.141 no.2? Ty.
Thank you !!🙏 😊 🎶 I didn’t know the Mereaux piece - sounds very difficult. I don’t really take requests because my choices of videos tend to correspond to how I’m feeling at that particular moment. But I’ll certainly have a look at your two suggestions…
I love how you stick to the tempo throughout, unlike most professional pianists playing this piece who feel the need to speed up on the ornamental parts to show off their virtuosity.
@@houmous942 thank you!! I agree with you that this piece sounds better with the same tempo all the way though, a kind of hypnotic regularity. I find it hard enough playing the ornamental parts at this speed, so doing them any faster isn’t really an option anyway 😉
Hnnggg this is how I feel about a LOT of pieces that people play by Chopin, **especially** the waltzes lol. I have always personally preferred steady tempos all throughout rather than constantly speeding up and slowing down so unnecessarily when it isn't written to do so. I only really "slow down" in certain spots of some pieces because if I play them at the same tempo or faster, I'll mess them up bad 😅 I mean, people are allowed to interpret whichever piece however they want it... but I've always preferred sticking to the tempo of anything I'll play.
Great performance! I've been looking for a video like this to see if this is within my piano abilities haha Edit: after watching the first movement I think I'll start with Prokofiev's ninth, some of that looked pretty insane lol
@@manzoh2248 Thanks!! That 1st movement is really tricky, especially after long accelerando in the middle - I’m still struggling with that section but it’s a great sonata to play. The 9th sonata might be a bit easier technically and the music is amazing too
Amazing! I love Prokofiev! Your performances are so good!

@@ThunderboxMusic thanks for the ideas - I don’t know the earlier sonatas well but I’ll check them out
@@PriceLesS-nf1zd I've learned No. 3 and No. 2 movement 4. Not terribly hard but still fairly difficult. I tend to prefer them (including No. 1, which is more Romantic) to the very modern No. 7.

@@PriceLesS-nf1zd I've been playing through this exact piece recently and those final F and C chords in the right hand over the diminished chord over Bb in the left hand feel so good on the hands it's addictive... then you get to go right into smashing those two Bbmaj7 chords and go into that delicious coda. Then I pound those 3 final Bb octaves so hard my Kawaii RX-1 shakes making me feel bad for any mice or rats in the crawl space under my house.
@ I know - that feeling of smashing out those chords on the final page is awesome - it certainly shakes the piano up (I’m never sure if the iPhone I’m filming with will be in anything like the same position at the end…)

Hi. I was buying a Yahama N1 hybrid piano to connect it to a VST like Garritan CFX or Pianoteq, but I couldn't find it. Now I want to buy a Yahama U3 with Silent system (I can't afford a real grand piano with silent system) I want to ask is connecting U3 to VST is a good option? The only think that matters is the action of the piano for me. Does it have a good action compared to a grand-like piano like Yamaha N1 (which has a C series modified action as they say)? and last question is does the action change when you turn Silent system on or it is the same action as when it is turned off? Thank you and your great repertoire and wonderful playing.
@@softkadeh Thank you very much!! 😊 🙏 🎶 I’m not familiar with the N1 hybrid piano, but I’m delighted with my U3 silent. The action in silent mode feels identical to playing acoustically (you can really feel the weight of the hammers moving under your fingers). The midi output works fine for VSTs. Obviously it’s not the same touch as a silent grand, but the acoustic sound is very rich and they are really solid instruments. Hope this helps…
@@PriceLesS-nf1zd thanks a lot for your help ❤
Your repertoire selection puts you way ahead of the big name synthesia pianists of youtube, I really hope you continue to upload pieces and grow your channel.
@@stevowilliams8279 Thank you so much for your message!! 😊 🙏 🎶 I try to choose repertoire that I really feel something for, not necessarily the most well-known pieces… maybe not the best recipe for a successful channel but who knows?

The war sonatas are such amazing pieces of music, it's really hard to pick a favourite from them (though I think Richter convinces me of the 8th). Your performance sounsd great!

I recomend you his 2nd piano concerto. Fr
@@MilkBlender Just listened to it yesterday (sorry I forgot to comment). I think it's not bad at all, though not really my cup of tea. I suppose I prefer something easier to follow, though I enjoyed the music's vibe, for what that's worth. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

May I ask which is your favorite vsl piano for classical?
My overall favourite is the Steinway (I only have the standard version but even that has such a great sound) - if I could only have one VSL, it would definitely be the Steinway. But the Yamaha is superb for music that requires a more mellow and velvety sound.

FINALLY
How do you make it without crackles? With this much of notes and pedalling..
It is sometimes crackly when I’m recording especially in very intense passages, but I try to ignore this and then on playback in LogicPro it’s normally fine…
Hello, which settings you used to have no crackle due to high CPU? Or what PC specs. Because this kind of music with pedalling will easily overshoot the CPU.
Hello. I’m using a Mac with an i9 processor (2.3GHz 8-core), and plenty of RAM. Then in LogicPro I use quite high latency - 256 when there aren’t too many fast repeated notes, or 128 otherwise, but this makes it crackly when I’m playing (but ok on playback)…
@@PriceLesS-nf1zd how many mics do you used? Can I see your settings on one of the mics? Thank you
@@CalixtaAndreula For recording I use 3 mics for the Steinway - Room-mix halfway up, condenser quite high and Mid 1 three quarters up. Then I sometimes add Main and Main-C for a bit of ambiance but for now I’ve only got the standard version of the Steinway so I’m a bit limited. For the recordings that I did with the Yamaha (Chopin Barcarolle etc.) I’m using Room mix quite low, Close 1 halfway up, Mid 2 halfway and Main-C on full (I have the full license for the Yamaha). Hope this helps
@@PriceLesS-nf1zd which synchron piano did you mostly prefer? I have Steinway full but now I am thinking to get CFX because there is promotion this month
@@CalixtaAndreula I love the Steinway but the Yamaha is great if you’re looking for a more velvety sound. These two are definitely my favourites and they are really complementary - what doesn’t work so well with one normally does with the other.
Excellent performance of this wonderful piece. Thank you! 👏 the Steinway-D VST sounds great as well.

@@welovefishhehe Thank you so much for you message - I’m glad you enjoyed it. I started playing piano when I was 5 and I’m no spring chicken now!
Truly impressive…
I recommend Francis Poulenc if you already haven't looked into him :) ruclips.net/video/lBplD1hJTLE/видео.htmlfeature=shared He's amazing, a leading composer, of Les Six, a group of French composers along with Erik Satie, that wanted to transform the world, a group of revolutionaries. They were the ones that inspired the Impressionist Era with their rare, colorful, and complex works. Keep in mind, they were from the Late Romantic Era, towards the very end.
Thanks for your suggestion - I love Poulenc’s music and have played some of his chamber music and accompanied lots of songs and choral works, but never actually played any solo piano music. I’ll have a look though. Thanks again 🙏
