    At 41 seconds some one says " shut up and sing it" it make Jonathan smile, he obviously knows who it is and it look as if he might say somthig back but sings. I have love his music since the first album witch I go back to often.

      Relatability is the key factor in making a timeless song, a classic. Decades from now, people will still relate to it.

    This audience was so rude and it's painful for me to hear their rudeness while Mr. Edwards is preparing to sing one of his best heartfelt love songs. I have tears for the beauty of the song and tears for the disrespect of the individuals around him.

    possiblly the most under appreciated acoustic artist to have performed in the last 30 years - the J.Denvers, the M.M. Murphys etc got their days in the sun but Jonathan's always been there, making beautiful music for those of us that loved it and him so much - thanks Jonathan for all you've done for music. sc

      After making two of the greatest albums of songs ever done, he decided to spoil it by becoming a Jesus Freak. Another one bites the dust. Bob Dylan did it too but he got over it.

    Indeed... I do sometimes think of that certain someone from college in 1972 (sigh). We spent hours listening to Jonathan & Dan Fogelberg, "convinced" we were the only two live souls on the planet. There goes that heartstring again...

    Grey - very astute and comprehensive observations - music was evolving at an extrapolative rate thscru the 50s, 60s, and 70,s, and while I'm not tickled to be drooling on my pillow at night, I would not give up living in and thru these changes for anything. sc

    Lisa - right on. When I'm in bed, trying to go to sleep, and my brain won't shut the hell up, I play this, with harmonies and extra verses (winging it as I go) and I feel my body relax and my heart slow down and can hear her whisperin in my ear again---and it's all okay. Steve

    bobby - if you watch the vid closely you'll see it's Jonathan himself that leans away from the mic and says, "Shut up and sing it" and the crowd laughs with him - what a stud he is, huh. Steve

    Thanks, friend! I saw Jonathan in concert in 1981 when I was attending college upstate at SUNY New Paltz. I saw Jonathan Edwards perform at The Chance in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. I think he sang "Lady" acapella without a microphone! How I remember this is a small miracle in itself! Sincerely, BobbyK :+)

    How amazingly rude of the person in the audience who yelled: "Shut up and sing!" Jonathan loves to explain how certain songs came to him! They should have removed the possibly drunk, unkind man promptly from the room Sincerely, A Jonathan Ewards fan since I was about 13 in 1975! BobbyK

    WT you nailed it. great music makes you FEEL your memories, not just remember them - and at a holistic level - all the way down. It's as much my therapy as it is my pleasure to let myself get lost in a beautiful song like this, even if just for a moment. sc

    On the money. I'm a old folkie gtarer and singer and this was in my 3rd set, when my 'fans' were kicking back and wanting to feel some music. But, i quit performing and lost this song. Great songs are like great friends - they don't forget you and to bump into this brought on some pretty sweet memories sc

    I've always loved this song.Gee way back when he used to play in Kent & around northern Ohio the audiences were so much more respectful, sign of the times.Of course I understand that it was the music of the day so we were more atuned.I still get a thrill hearing him play.He has that golden voice and man when he blows his harp! I miss the old days I guess I'm just getting old and every passing generation clings to it's youth.I've played guitar now for 38 years and this is the music I'll stick with

    beautiful song, but that asshole from the audience who shouts out shut up and sing it,,, please give me a moment with that jerk. Jonathan Edwards was so cool to ignore that idiot. I was part of the audience back in the seventies when he did the college campuses... , was a parting song for a relationship once.

    I have loved this song since I was a young teenager in the 70's! I'm glad I got to see Jonathan Edwards in 1981, at a place called The Chance, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. I was a student at the time at SUNY New Paltz! The concert was magical! I did make one mistake-I tried to take a picture, and the bouncer almost took my arm off, and threatened to break my very expensive Minolta X-G1! Thank God, he only took the film! Peace, BobbyK

    @helenschmelen Ah, I seem to understand your point. For me, I just find solace in who Jonathan Edwards is, he plucks an emotional chord in my heart, whether it's w/ his music or his tales. He's a brilliant person, and it's interesting to learn his story if you haven't done so.

  • @kmcgullam91
    @kmcgullam91 13 лет назад

    @helenschmelen It's totally situational. That depends on what is being said in conversation and whether or not it relates to their music. And yes, sadly that's how others view people, for their actions, no matter if they have music that tells about themselves otherwise. But how does this apply to Jonathan Edwards? He's always neutral and merry spirited, especially in his tales. His stories reflect his music and vice versa, that's why it shouldn't matter if he speaks. He is his music.
