The 4 weight yarn is best for beginners

since i have a lot trouble making a magic ring/magic circle, i usually just make a slip knot and leave it big with a long tail and start crochetting directly onto to it and so far that's worked really well for anything where i need to work in the round and it doesn't seem to loosen on me once everything is weaved in

for me since i have a lot of trouble reading written patterns and charts on their own, i try to find patterns that have both and compare them so i can figure out what the pattern wants from me and that's been working really well so far. like oh i don't remember what all the chart symbols mean, i'll go check the written pattern, and i have trouble putting written stuff into action because i get confused about what goes where so i'll go check the chart to see where my stitches are supposed to go or whatever and that's helped a lot with my overall ability to read both types of patterns

What are you dressing up as for Halloween??🎃

I completely agree with using a light colored yarn (in an earlier comment). Dark colored yarns need a lot of light to see your stitches. I would also recommend solid colors to begin, just so seeing stitches is easier. Another tip I like to offer beginners is to use a smooth yarn, vs. a fuzzy yarn. You will likely be pulling out stitches... smooth yarn will make this easier! Fuzzy yarn likes to velcro to itself and can lead to breaking the yarn as you frog stitches. Finally, remember you are learning a new skill! Be patient with yourself!! Practice, practice, practice... watch videos, try things, frog things... save some of your first efforts, tho, so you can see how much you improve over time. Good luck and have fun! 😊

I wish I had started on thread first. It was hard for me to transition to thread when I made a dresser scarf. It would have bern easier to go up to yarn.

My crochet journey is almost identical to yours! I re-learned crochet after 40 years. I re-learned the same way that you did. Now, in my early 70's I make and sell amigurumi.❤

You are so right about the sewing. I do sew also but never equated that to crochet. Wow. Saves a lot of time and makes crochet projects turn out beautifully.
