Jeff, you should know better. Ludwig NEVER made metal Supraphonic only Chrome over Aluminum and Chrome over Brass and Bonham always played Chrome over Aluminum 402 Supraphonic.

Don't trust your ears ! drum tuning is such a pain in the ass ! Get a tuning device to get the pitch you want. it will save you a lot of time and trouble

Hi Jeff - I have a question. I notice that you never talked about the internal muffler. How did Bonham set his muffler inside? Was it touching the batter head slightly or not at all. Also how about the snare strings? Did that particular snare have the Gretch 42-strand snare strings on it?

I've seen other videos say he used a 2-ply Ambassador batter head which I didn't think even existed but they did and do now.. as "Ambassador Vintage" which is a 7.5mil / 3mil combo instead of just a 7mil single ply Ambassdor or double ply 7mil Emperors. Vintage Emperors are two plies of 7.5 mil. So if Bonham used Emperors, then that what he used.

I heard that Bernard Purdie played on the sessions and Bonham learned his parts from what Bernard put dowdown. So the drums heard on the recordings are probably Roger's, which Purdie used at the time.

According to Jason Bonham, Ocheltree actually didn't work with John to the extent he claims to have. I dunno what to think.

Just want to point out that Jason, John Bonham's son said on instagram that Ocheltree was NEVER Bonhams tech. Jeff's also auctioned sticks claiming they were actually used by John himself when they most likely never were. And I'd also like to add that Ocheltree is known for ripping people off who tried to buy drums off him, even distributors who purchased multiple drums. And I'm not sure if any of thrm ever received there money back. His drums sound pretty good, but the guy himself is full of shit and a complete scum bag. I hope more people spread the word, this guy's a disrespectful loser.

That was fun!...and I actually learned something for my own sounds!!...what I hate these days is when the techs are ALWAYS trying to convince me to have an "80's over processed sound" to MY KIT! ( as if they knew better than me, in what my sound was supposed to be!) I'd have to argue with them quite a bit in order for them to not RUIN what my drums should sound like in the mix when live AND in the studio! THIS demonstration is what I have always been going for!! Thanks!!!

My drummer just got an old Black Panther kit. That thing is from the early 70's, but man does it sound good.

Mark Romans (drummer) is burying the kick beater. Why is he playing triplets at 100 miles an hour ? To demonstrate Bonham/kit/timing/swagger : play grooves that let the Kick breath - Fool in The Rain, Levee or whole Lotta love.

After hearing those toms, the bass drum was a bit underwhelming.

I think Bonzo could have tuned any make of drums with a 26 bass and metal snare and the same heads to sound like Bonzo. Musicians joke drummers are not real musicians. I hate that because we have generally 50 or more lugs with two heads per drum to tune, not 4 or six strings. I have had studio owners ask me to tune their in -house snare drum cause I could get the drum sounding great. I took me years to learn it. Then there is 10 different great sounds, different materials.....wood snare, brass, aluminum, etc..tight top, tight bottom , loose bottom, tight top(like Bruford) ...etc.

I wish he had just played a 4-4 beat also

This video always bothered me because these drums, in conjunction with the recording, sound nothing like Bonham's drums. Listen to the isolated drum tracks from any of their albums, and none of his various sounds were anything like this here. This sounds cheap and flat.
