S14 (SR20DET) - Custom Wiring Harness Part 1 - How to Route the Engine Harness
Want to custom wire your own car? Follow along as we wire up the engine and accessories on our 1995 Nissan 240SX S14. We're working with a brand new Link ECU, and need to wire up our Notch Top SR20DET engine. In this video, we're planning out how the motorsport wiring harness will be routed through the engine bay.
We will also plan out another harness for the accessories on the front end of the vehicle (headlights, horns, etc.).
Since we are running an electronic throttle body, we have completely eliminated the idle air control valve, so keep that in mind if you still need to wire that system in. Now get yourself some rope and zip ties, and make your own custom wiring harness!

    Your knock sensor is not oriented like the OEM mount? How to check that it is working correctly?

    • @MichaelMontez
      @MichaelMontez 2 месяца назад

      I just replaced my Knock sensor and didn't know there was a OEM orientation. 90 degrees to the back of the engine is what I did because thats how it was when I took it off

    • @tristangueret8239
      @tristangueret8239 2 месяца назад

      @@MichaelMontezOK thank you for this information. I heard that the orientation could affect the sensitivity of the sensor but I don't know... During the mapping my mechanic was bothered with it and deleted it. But I would like to put it back because it is a safety feature. Maybe the knock was because the head gasket was too thin

    • @tristangueret8239
      @tristangueret8239 2 месяца назад

      @@MichaelMontezI also have a problem, it is the engine which heats up very quickly when drifting despite large volume radiators (oil and water) perhaps a bad assembly of the water hoses so if it is possible to have a video of your editing I am very interested. Level of the electrical harness too but in France we don't have the same? Thank you for your videos in France people are not very willing to share interesting information

      @@MichaelMontezApparently the original mounting of the knock sensor would be around 45° in front but this must be checked especially if your work correctly as it is. What you tell me reassures me a little because mine was facing downwards when dismantled 😅

    Great video really informative mate! Hopefully you can help me a little more, I recently bought an s14 and the previous owner capped 2 lines off that I believe were a part of the recirculation valve system! But I have no idea if they should be connected to anything now, one of the lines is the blow off valves line you referenced in your video which is currently capped. The other line next to it is connected to the carbon canister which I think has a split which also runs to the waste gate control solenoid valve. The other line that’s blocked off I am not sure where it’s coming from atm but it is larger? I currently have no blow off value but want to fit one to avoid turbo stall/flutter

    That's one way to do it. Not the smartest one, but got the job done. Orientation marks on the axle are all unnecessary, it does not matter it if is put back together the same way it came out as long as all circlips etc are where they need to be. What matters however is to put marks on the shock, knuckle and one of the strut bolts. One of them is concentric, once you get it out, you will see it is funny in the centre, it is to adjust Camber of the wheel. So it is essential to put it back together how it came out or the geometry of the wheel will be out. I don't remove shock, but rather undo the stabilizer bar, tie rod and lower control arm. But this way may not be possible in some locations that rust heavily. I may need to replace mine, bcs subaru unit is much better than napa. Replaced whole axle two years ago, bcs my boots popped on both front outer joints, but is clicking this time, so I may just repair my subaru units boots instead and put them both back in since I did not discard those. Thank you for the video, gave me the idea what to expect for tools needed etc.

    Perfect timing for me as I look to make my first harness on my Kouki. What was the name of the quick connect you used at the firewall for the engine harness? do you happen to know if it has enough pins for a more 'stock' sr20 offering without the TB? Also having not watched the rest of the series yet, do you also plan to quick release the accessories harness? deffo want to do this to mine! Great video look forward to binge watching the rest tomorrow

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports 11 месяцев назад

      Sorry for the late reply. Things have been stalled on the build due to life! For the quick connect, I like to use Amphenol ADHM series connects. They aren't as expensive as some of the higher end connectors, but they still do the job. They also use the standard Deutsch solid barrel contact. I'm planning on using them for both the engine harness, as well as the accessories harness. There are several different configurations, and they would definitely work for a stock system. Good luck with the build, and don't hesitate to reach out to me with any questions about the wiring. Best to DM me on Facebook. Link is in the profile.

    My only issue is. Could you not use the center feed to feed injectors and then side feed for the return. To save having fuel pipes on top. That would keep pressure ?. Would look alote nicer too. And each injector would get good pressure and as for using 1000cc injectors. Youre not getting the best out of the injector they will be running half tilt. 500cc or 750cc ? Jist wondering as from wat i though better duty on the injectors wen near maxed out compared to not even getting full flow out of them if you get wat i meen.

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports 11 месяцев назад

      The injectors are meant to support future mods on the vehicle. So yes, I do plan on running them up to 80% or 90%. As for the center feed, that had been the original plan for routing. But then I saw a video by Sammit where they were developing the intake manifold over in Japan, and they mentioned this specific setup as the intention.

    Where did you get all your stainless steel bolts? Do you mind giving the sizes friend?

    • @BrainPowerMotorsports
      @BrainPowerMotorsports Год назад

      I actually sit on a large collection of them. I often switch all the visible ones to stainless when I start a new project. There are some tricks to finding the sizes though. 1st is of course to remove and measure the bolts, but that can be a pretty slow process. The 2nd way that sometimes works is to go to partsouq.com and look up the model. For Nissan, I have noticed that some of the bolts are called out using a code that actually tells you the thread and length. If the code appears like 08120-8801F or 08363-62025 (for example), then it most likely tells you the info. Look at the second part of these examples. The 1st one is 8801F, which is an M8x80mm bolt. The 2nd example is 62025, which is an M6x20mm bolt. The first 3 digits of that second part often tell you the info.
