Tony Waddington is an English multi-award-winning songwriter and record producer.
Tony was an original member of the "PETE BEST COMBO" during the early 1960's after which, Tony became well known, as one of the UK’s most successful 70s and 80s songwriters and record producers, Waddington, co-founded the legendary State Records in 1975. He enjoyed enviable success with a series of UK chart hits in the 1970s for The Rubettes and received Ivor Novello Awards for ‘Songwriter of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Contribution to British Popular Music’. His works included compositions for Tom Jones, The Flirtations, Petula Clark, The Rubettes, Lena Anderson, Pete Best Four, Pete Best Combo.

この曲はWinkのデビュー曲であり、まだ彼女たち独特の衣装・振付けや無表情もなく、従来の80年代アイドルの型どおりです。二人は写真雑誌で選ばれて芸能界に入ったため、可愛さは申し分なかったのですが、歌唱やダンスなどの経験はほとんどありませんでした。したがって、素人感丸出しで、常識からしたら、売れるはずは無かったのです。しかし、長年のアイドルブームも下火になり、世間は何か目新しいものを求めている状況でした。そこへ登場したWinkは上手くはまって、シングル3枚目のカバー曲「愛が止まらない~Turn it into love~(カイリー・ミノーグ)」から爆発的な人気を得ました。一般的に言えば、原曲のルーベッツやこの曲以前のキャンディーズのカバー曲も聴けば、より一層面白いでしょう。 This song was Wink's debut song, and they didn't yet have their unique costumes, choreography, or expressionless faces, so it was a typical 80's idol type. The two were selected from a photo magazine to enter the entertainment industry, so they were very cute, but they had almost no experience in singing or dancing. Therefore, they looked like amateurs, and common sense would have said they would never win fame. However, the idol boom that had lasted for many years has dying down, and the public was looking for something new. Wink came on the scene and fit right in, and they became explosively popular with their 3rd single, cover song, "Ai ga Tomaranai ~Turn it into love~(Kylie Minougue)." Generally speaking, it's even more interesting if you listen to the original song by the Rubettes, or the cover song by Candies that came before this song.
