G Day Mike, I hate when you can’t tell what the hell the name of a record is. Why do they try to hide that from us. Nice Biscuit will probably be a top 10 album for me this year, I love a little bit of pop in my psych. Love that black vinyl, weird how they are able to make records in that color. That was an incredible amount of records you carted home in November. Did you rent a truck to bring them home. Fuzz Club keeps delivering Maybe you need 3 D glasses to read that Giz album or just have 5 beers and the lettering becomes more clear. Australia sure pits out a hell of a lot of records Mike
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 Mike, I think you’re on to something. Obviously the hiding of info & unclear text is intentional because the bands are getting kick backs from 3-D glasses empires & breweries 👍You should be a detective Mike. Don’t be silly Mike of course I didn’t rent a truck, it was a van. Believe it or not Australia puts out a whole lot more records that I don’t even have!!! I know, crazy!! Cheers…Mike
BTW. Aren't you guys getting into your endless summer months now? I would love to live there from December to April~ Rob/Boston
@@Paneeks1960 Yeah we are Rob. It’s going to be 31c today & tomorrow in Melbourne. Other parts of Australia have already been this hot & a lot hotter for a while now. I live near St Kilda beach so a dip may be on the cards. Cheers….Ben
Always appreciate your updates Ben. I watched the Nice Biscuit video for the song Fade Away. Sounding good. Your little adlibs before you show or during are always funny. Like the 666 at the 12:30 mark. Making it a point to check out more Chills. Thanks B~ Rob/Boston
@@Paneeks1960 Thanks Rob, glad you found some stuff that interested you. The Chills are brilliant. I don’t plan what I’m going to say so it comes out how it comes out 😂 If my lack of YT slickness is entertaining I’m happy with that. Cheers mate & hope you’re going well 👍
Ben, some nice pick ups there, cool Gizz box and ofc a bunch of stuff that I never heard before. Cool cover on the 12 inch with Cave, cheers
Great stuff as usual Ben . Love that Gizz vinyl ! Thanks mate 😎👌🎸
@@craigsandry6737 Cheers mate. The Gizz always go all out with their packaging & coloured vinyl…Ben 👍
Goodness me, that was an awesome lot of secondhand 12's You'll have to tell me what shops you frequent, as I'm not going to find anything if I ever go looking in them. 🤣Fauves are getting a good run on 3RRR lately, don't know much about those other newies. Most of the Chris Knox stuff has added artwork, booklets and suchlike, but are often missing from secondhand copies, a pet hate of mine..........cheers John D.
@@downundertuneage3875 If I told you then you’d be my competition 😂 I’ve actually just had a bit of luck lately at Greville & happened to be there when they’d got a few collections in when they were pricing them. I’ve known them for years so they’re nice enough to let me have a squizz before they hit the racks. Good to hear that the Fauves are getting some airplay. Such an under appreciated band. I think most of the Chris Knox things I have had all of the extras included. Maybe one or two don’t but in those cases just finding the records was hard enough let alone with the extras. Cheers….Ben
@@benrankins4446 Cheers Ben. Yes, I've done ok over the years at Greville, one of the few original record stores still in business.
The Fauves' album cover is great. Even more Gizz? I love the packaging, even if the font sucks. Hey, a Go Betweens 12"! Spectacular records!! 🙃
@@EmbryonicRobot It’s a good record too. I have all of the Gizz’s studio stuff, but I only get certain things when it’s the live stuff. Like if it was a gig I went to or a particularly special event like the Red Rocks show. If I collected all of the Official Bootleg Series as well I’d have to sell all of my Canadian records to afford them & to make space. I have a few Go-Betweens 12”s now. It was a decent month 👍
Hey Ben, you must be drowning in The Gizz! I’ve not heard any of their live albums, still just knee deep in the studio gear. Listened to the song Lozenge by Ben Wood… very cool! Nice Biscuit sound good too …. poppy with those dreamy vocals. Nice 👌 A fine selection, Jack
@@TheVinylVoyage-ud3uf Thanks Jack, Yeah Gizz do take up a bit of shelf space nowadays. Never would’ve thought that what was a scrappy little garage rock band back when I first saw them would develop into the behemoth that we now know & love these days. I think Ben Woods fits in well with the long lineage of great NZ tunesmiths. Nice Biscuit are probably a bit more pop than I would usually got but there’s no denying those hooks. Cheers…Ben
Hey Ben. Great video! Love The Newsletters! Need to check out a few of the others. Cheers
Newsletters are great fun. Thanks mate...Ben
Brilliant as always. I have that Gut Health album. A few others that you mentioned I checked out on Discogs. There are either no copies available or the shipping costs twice the amount of the actual record. But I'll keep an eye on them. I don't think I've heard your mention the Melbourne band Bananagun yet. I bought the "Dinked Edition" of the new album "Why Is The Colour Of The Sky?." I really enjoy it. It's definitely rooted in 1967 era psychedelic rock. And the great news, my The Saints "I'm Stranded" vinyl box set arrived today. It's got some great extras with the vinyl too. I've just finished cleaning the vinyl but won't get a chance to play it until tomorrow.
Thanks mate. I really like the Gut Health singles and on early listens digging the album, but still have to spend a bit more time with it. It's the same with postage trying to get o/s stuff over here. It's ridiculous. I'm pretty sure I've shown Bananagun's previous record and some of their 7"s before. The last one had an almost Zamrock/Afrofunk feel. I have to pick up my Saints box this weekend. Can't wait to get into it. Cheers...Ben
@@benrankins4446I’m playing The Saints box now. I think you’ll be delighted even though you’ve probably heard it all before. Note*. The box comes in plastic shrink wrap with one of those sticky inserts on the back of the box. The insert on mine said it contained the 4 CD Deluxe edition. I ordered the vinyl, so before taking the plastic off I contacted In The Red Records. They wrote back very quickly that there was an error in production and some of the vinyl sets have the wrong insert on the back. Thy told me to open the box and see what was inside. Fortunately it was the vinyl. They apologized and said they just found the problem and have no idea how many are like that. So to make a long story short, don’t panic if your box says it contains cd’s.
@ Cool. Thank you for letting me know about the possibly wrong info on the box. Good to know because I’m sure I’d freak out when I read that 😂
Hey Ben. Even more Gizz for me to collect, if there wasn't enough already. Pleased to hear that The Saints are still at the top of their game. Cheers Mike 👍
The whole Gizz Official Bootleg thinh they're doing with Fuzz Club & on their own Pdoom label just makes it even more impossible to be a Gizz completist. The other thing is a lot of the live bootlegs are in beautiful box sets, so they're not cheap either! Ed could still take the top of heads with that guitar, Mark Arm did a fantastic job on vocals, Mick Harvey was a great foil to Ed & added great keys flourishes when needed, Ivor Hay & Peter Oxley had the classics Saints unorthodox rhythm section down and they even had a 3 piece horn section so songs like Know Your Product & All Times Through Paradise sounded sublime. When they opened with This Perfect Day I knew that it was going to be some kinda gig. Cheers...Ben
Mmmm.... texture 😂 I actually have a couple of the records you show. The Chills is one. Blame Steve Carlson for the other one. I'm so wanting many of those great aussie and kiwi albums you show... sigh. Where I should've ended up... oh well. Go Betweens! All I can say is "ah yeah?" "Nah yeah!"
Ha, ha I know exactly which one you're talking about when you mentioned Steve. I've just seen that there pre-orders for a Chills record which was old 80's (I think) unrecorded songs that Martin was working on, which were nearly complete, but now with a little help from some of NZ's finest they've been finished. Could be a very interesting release. I remember Martin talking about all of his plans for remixed re-issues & recording old songs that never made it on albums the last time I saw The Chills live. Also I've never said those last two phrases in my life, but people I'm related to in the country use them all the time. Cheers...Ben
@ 😄 Ah yeah? 😂 Sounds very interesting that (About the Chills). The video about the "Steve"'record is comming later this month.
@@MortenAastad I look forward to it 👍

I like Ben Woods and his funny nose! I have an old Japanese copy of "Got Live if you Want It" by the STONES....it has a naked man on the label...Frontside has him with a "WOODY".....Backside appropriately has him going "POOPSIE".....whoever would have thought that boring old spindle could be so "SAUCY"!!!
That is some saucy spindle action 😂Ben Woods seems very tame in comparison.
@@benrankins4446 🤣!!!
I forgot to mention that I totally agree with you on early ACDC. In fact I got into ACDC and Ramones at about the same time as a spotty 13 year old. Both bands sounded like they were thrashing away in a garage for their friends with no pretensions and just heads down rock and roll fun! I wonder if you'd like this cover from Powerage by Sister Ray - saw her supporting Hurray For The Riff Raff and was blown away by how she transformed 'Up to my neck in you' from an innuendo riddled maximum rock n' roll track to a lovely sweet love song! ruclips.net/video/Bcia7Rz57fY/видео.html

Good day meight... I'm into I think everything you showed here, except your faves Archers of Loaf lol! I saw them in my early university days, circa 1996 and thought they sounded like Bush 🤷♂️ Though to be fair, a guy I worked with 20 years later played them once and I thought what he played was pretty good. Not that I spend much time thinking about ranking bands, but whenever the topic comes up of what is the greatest American band, for me it's gotta be Fugazi.
What a strange way to write mate. Archers sound like Bush? Yeah and Tom Waits sounds like Taylor Swift 😂 I was seriously questioning your sanity (or your hearing) until you mentioned Fugazi. Redeemed!
Haven't Heard the Triffids/but there was a British Sci Fi movie called The Day of The Triffids
@@Isa-m2y4u I know that film 👍
I finally get to hear some Triffids! This was a great video to get to know about the band. I felt like calling you professor at one point. It’s interesting to hear how so many Aussie bands left for England to pursue the big time because in Canada we had so many bands head south for the same reason.
Unfortunately most of our bands didn’t do well in England because they still see us as second rate convicts even though our bands are better 🤘
@ I understand. I think Aussies have a tougher edge to them and that probably puts off those cultured limies. I think in the U.S. Canadian bands are just cute little brothers and sisters.
I’m glad to hear samples of all these. Thanks for sharing. Sorry that this one suffered some casualties.
@@musicisajourney I do my best to put some samples in there when I have the time 👍
Who’s that first one? Underground Lovers? That baseline is quite a pleasant surprise. I like the sound of Even. Cool how the band name ties in to the album title: Even Less Is More. I wanna check out that album more. The Clouds sound really good, too! Okay, maybe I should just say that this is a cool selection because I like everything you’re playing.
@@musicisajourney That was the 90’s I experienced. Going out all the time seeing these bands play & playing early shows with my band. A tonne of fun 🤘
@ I need to redo my nineties. Didn’t see enough shows.
@@musicisajourney Can't redo anything. Just start seeing gigs now. There's millions of great new bands to see. That's how I spend a lot of my time.

@@musicisajourney Oh well. I've played in bands forever and gone to shows so it's always a family affair.
Oh, that record crash…! I can feel it. I can feel like like watching someone take a hockey puck to ding-a-ling. My condolences. I’m just at the start. I hope we’ve seen the worst.
@@musicisajourney It didn’t hurt as much as that!!! At least the records are fine 👍
@ That’s good. But I hate any physical damage to my stuff. I know you gotta live with it. But it still sucks when it first happens.

Weren’t the Triffods on a Star Trek episode , I think Trouble with Triffods? Sounds interesting Mike, m running out of room for all my Australian albums. Defo. on my top 5 list of best-ever Aussie albums. Yes, I can see the Cave similarity. Wide Open Road is a classic, no doubt; I think Trick Of The Light is a better track from them, and Jill Birt's Goodbye Little Boy is just as good - I can't see David singing this one.......Also, the story that Jill was serving drinks at a music awards function at Burswood Casino in the 1990s after the band broke up, and accepted the award in her Burswood uniform. the music industry can be like that....and the UK was a bridge too far for a number of Aussie hopefuls, as you'd mentioned. Even in Australia the tyranny of distance stopped the Stems/Someloves from reaching their potential, I'm sure, as another WA act. Great vid, Ben. 👍Cheers. John D.
@@downundertuneage3875 Poor Jill. At least she got some recognition but I’m some cash would’ve been better. There’s been a tonne of ‘em that deserved better going right back to the 60’s.

Chickenkiller - Celibate Rifles (although again, Regurgitator would be hilarious and if I were going to do a song myself, this is the one I'd pick. I love a good sing-along) Tallerup Bridge - Abbe May Lonely Stretch - Let Love In era Bad Seeds, although they may want to use their current bass player Wide Open Road - The Drones Life Of Crime - Kate Miller-Heidke (what a song this is!). Saw David McComb at the Cherry Tree in Richmond a few months before his death. Just him and Graham Lee on lap steel and about 5 people and the barman in the audience. He played ‘The Seabirds’ amongst other Triffids songs, supporting himself with a stick because his health had obviously deteriorated. Feel fortunate to have heard these tremendous songs in such a intimate environment with no idea he would pass away so soon after.

Love all sorts of music, indie / alt / hardcore / electronica, rock etc.. and this is an album that for me just towers over most. In my top 10 for sure. Heard it back in ‘87, and it just stunned me. Love it still to this day. It’s criminal that they never got as big as they should have, along with another superb Aussie band, the Go-Betweens too.

As always, you have great, fun video's with a cool, unique approach - "We need the Residents in North America" are the truest words i have heard in awhile. I'm afraid we are going to see some real ugliness coming from my country in the new year. Some many of my fellow countrymen have normalized this new...administration. That's the sad part - the people that should be fighting back just going along. Anyway...sorry for the rant. Which bring me to the Midnight Oil you showcased - we need some radical thinking on the level of that band. They put their reputations and careers on the line. I'll leave you with a quote by JC Crawford on an MC5 album that you know well, Ben. " Brother and Sister- the time has come for each and every one of you to decide if you are going to be part of the problem or part of the solution". Oh brother, we could use some of that revolutionary spirit today. Peace. Shawn.

As much as I loved the Oils & how they walked like they talked it especially when Peter Garrett entered politics unfortunately the major parties are so entrenched in their politics that he was eaten up by the system. He started off with the leftist Green Party who I vote for & then went to the lesser of two evils of the major parties which was Labour. The Residents..Yeah!!/saw them live in oh,about 1989..around the time of The Buckaroo Blues album My pick from North America( where I reside)...The Flamin' Groovies.. At least 3 people have said that the Groovies were the best band since the Beatles
@@Isa-m2y4u Wow that would’ve been awesomely weird. Love the Groovies. Better than the Beatles 👍
Australian music sucks. All these bands rock rock rock. Subscribed.
@@thomasforman8869 Here to make friends & influence people I see. My channel is mainly all Australian music so thanks for the sub.
Liked it Ben. David is an Aussie national treasure, for sure. Ok, he's a NSW resident, but we won't hold that against him.😂 Tells it as it is, and doesn't mind a bit of arty-farty tuneage as well, as you'd mentioned 👍Oh, if only P.G. and the rest of his putrid band could move to Antarctica permanently.........please..........🤑Cheers from a rather hot Melbourne - as you'd know about. 🔥John D.
@@downundertuneage3875 He’s not bad for New South Welshman. I’d move to Antarctica if the Oils did 👍Cheers mate….Ben
I have an idea for a contest. We all make up an intro topic for you to do, and you pick the best three and make videos introducing each topic. You don’t actually have to do any of the topics. Just introduce them in around three minutes. That is to say, Ben, I think your intros are very entertaining! You really have a good style. Oh, and excellent choice with DOA!
@@musicisajourney That contest idea requires me to do a lot 😂 DOA rock!
@ Three video intros? That would run about nine or ten minutes in total.
@@musicisajourney I feel tired just thinking about it 🥵
Nice to see another fan of the Brazilian Beatles!!
How can you not be 👍
@@benrankins4446 how did you come across them?
@@Foul_Quince In the 90's when I was getting into a lot of garage punk stuff from that era (Gories/Oblivians, etc) which led me to the Crypt label which led me to 60's Garage rock. I think they appeared on the 2nd Nuggets CD box set. That's probably where I first heard them.
@@benrankins4446 I don't seem to recall them being on the two big Brazilian samplers of the late 90's/early 00's (Beliza Tropical (which is surprising because it was put together by David Byrne, who did a compilation on them called "Everything Is Possible") or the EMI one the name of which escapes me and I am not about to go rooting through the CDs in the back room to find it. I bumbled across them because I really dig and album called "We and The Sea" by Tamba 4 and read up on it and wrote then name down and bang! chased 'em down from there. Blind luck and shoe leather. I have been telling anyone with ears the last 20 years they are one of the all time great bands.
@@Foul_Quince I just checked & Bat Macumba is on the Nuggets II (Original Artyfacts From The British Empire And Beyond 1964-1969) CD Box. Definitely where I hear it first. Agree with you on one of the greats 👍
