Slushy Park and Another Broken Union Binding!

Finally back from vacation and back on hill with just a few days left to ride before the end of the season. The morning started with good speed for all the features. With the late start to the season and working a new job that doesnt allow me the flexibility to ride midweek, we finally got the the a good pow day that I could ride. Nice Spring day at Mt Rose. For what seems like the 10th time this season I was riding and not wanting to rotate. Not sure if it's age, being sore from working out, or something completely different. Either way it was a fun day riding straight in the park with the features all running pretty smoothly despite having to straight line from the A-frame to the jumps Music - epidemicsound.com/referra...

Sometimes the most simple days end up being the most fun. I ran into some friends in the parking lot and we took a couple laps together. We went to a secret stash spot to get some fresh pow even though it hadn’t snowed in a couple days. It wasn’t until I got out of powder that I realized there was a gnarly burr right in front of my front binding on my toe edge that I hadn’t noticed from the pre...

It’s amazing how much snow conditions can change within less than 18 hours. After riding while it was snowing with really light snow that wasn’t really covering too much. Today’s snow is completely different. That was way heavier snow overnight, and that it was way more compressed and really slow. I made the mistake of seeing the line on northwest and went over to Lakeview, hoping that I can ge...

What an awesome day. Mount Rose didn’t get nearly as much snow as I was hoping for and what the original forecast was showing with like the 8 to 10 inches but we did get 4 to 6. It was pretty apparent how shallow the powder was right away went to go, make my first turn on the groomer and set my tail sink into the hard pack. Took it pretty easy knowing that the coverage was pretty light and that...

How Long Does it Take to Commit to a Trick?

It's hard to describe what happened this day. The snow was good and I finally got my board and bindings to a place that I liked. The park was running really well with the one exception of the tight gates going into the up rail. To make it up the rail you have to carry a good amount of speed, which made threading the needle through the gates a little more heart raising. It was an interesting day...

Can You be Too Sore to Ride?
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.6 месяцев назад
I think I answered the question if you can be too sore and stiff to snowboard. The answers is no. Will you perform like you want to? Absolutely not. My lower back was so stiff I could barely bend over when I woke. up. I stretched a bit and did some mobility work that got me to a place that I felt comfortable enough to go ride. The park setup was actually really good, as it has been all season, ...

    Wow! This video shows Sierra Vista Park soon after a few trails had been created. So many more features and trail miles have been added to the park since this video was made. But, many thanks for making it to document the original work done by Biggest Little Trail Stewardship (aka Poedunks) people who volunteered to create the bike park features.

      It does pretty good. The tight turning radius makes it a bit tough on hard pack if you're on the tall side like myself. If you know how to lean and manipulate which part of your edge is in on contact with the snow it can be a lot of fun.

    • @WilAlexander
      @WilAlexander 5 месяцев назад

      It really comes down to how you like your turns on groomers. Personally I'm not a fan of the rocker in most lib/gnu or neversummer's. It makes low speed swivels and some edge to edge easier, but you tend to have less control and the edge control you do have is focused on certain areas. I'm a bit skeptical on the Slimwalls on the new Rides - There's a reason the ski and snowboard industry all but abandoned cap construction years ago. K2 seems like they're trying to save money by calling it a new tech and charging you the same (if not more)

    Many thanks for the review. 💪 Would it be fair to compare the Orca to the Burton Fish for (deep) pow & soft snow? How would it compare if yes?

    • @MarkoLerota
      @MarkoLerota 5 месяцев назад

      He took 156 Orca in this video which is too small for him. He should be on 162. No wonder he didn't like it. He tested skunk ape which is 170 and it was good.

    • @WilAlexander
      @WilAlexander 5 месяцев назад

      I've never seen the Burton Fish, but looking at the details on both - I see the Fish as a Steep and Deep only board. The taper is way gnarlier than the Orca which will give you a ton of nose float. That nose float is great if it's steam, tends to slow you down, which on mellow terrain can be an issue with speed. I think the Orca is more of an All-mountain board that leans towards pow.

    • @WilAlexander
      @WilAlexander 5 месяцев назад

      lol, Nice try, but no. The 156 is as big as most companies "wide" boards. The 156 orca is similar to a 172 Skunkape with the tail chopped (the 156 as a twin is 176cm). I've ridden small boards my whole life. What I didn't like about the Orca was the placement of the inserts in relation to the C2x rocker. The center rocker is too close to the front inserts, making the back end pivot out easier. That makes the front camber sit out in front of your foot instead of under it which makes the nose contact point grab early.

    • @MarkoLerota
      @MarkoLerota 5 месяцев назад

      Don't want to contradict you, but they recommend Orca to be ridden 3-6cm smaller than your regular board size. I'm 6'3, 13 size boot, and 162 should be my perfect size. That's the biggest Orca you can get. T. Rice drives 153/156. And I am much bigger than him. You even more :-). All I wanna say is when I jump on the smaller size board for my weight/height, I barely can drive it. Total lack of control. So I thought this happened to you as well. Never step on the Orca. But I will in a few weeks time. I own 165 skunk ape and I love it.. But I am eager to try the Orca :-)

    • @WilAlexander
      @WilAlexander 5 месяцев назад

      I get that, but smaller boards are easier to ride being more skate-like. Charging and carving is out of the question, but maneuvering a small board is considerably easier than a larger board - You can stand on a 2x4 and get it to tip over, stand on a 2x10 it takes way more effort. The skunkape was sick, but a completely different ride than the orca.

    Hi can i ask you about the Lobster Halldor pro bindings. Are the the same as Bataleon Astro full wrap, ? Besides different graphics. And how does they fit you boots. Can you recommended 32 i have been looking in to 32. to see if they got footprint reduced boots. It's a bit hard to find info on there website. Sry for all the questions 😄

    • @WilAlexander
      @WilAlexander 6 месяцев назад

      They are the same binding just different graphics. I have a video I'm putting together about this. Because you have to buy direct from Lobster and there's only one shop that carries Bataleon an hour away I haven't checked out the fit. But since they're both made by Rome now, the L/XL should be able to take a bulkier boot. As far as 32, I remember hearing years back that the TM-2 has a smaller footprint, but I dont know if that's actually true.

    • @WilAlexander

      I think the Whatever is probably a more rounded board than the Twinpig. Depending on your height the tight radius on the Twinpig can be tricky. The Whatever is more of you classic all-mountain twin with a hint of directional in just the tip and tail.
