    Hi, why do you say that there is no AS integrity protection in 4G? There is for sure exists as you well describe it in your other video -> "LTE Security Part 7: AS Encryption & Integrity Protection" moreover it is also badly described in this one how the NAS encryption and integrity protection works as it has nothing to do with the eNB, it gets done in between UE and MME only.

    How mme know or assign EBID?

    • @IrfanAli-jl7vb
      @IrfanAli-jl7vb 4 месяца назад

      EPS bearer ids go from 5 to 12 for each UE. As each new "bearer" gets created, MME selects a EPS bearer ID (EBID) for the UE. Lets say UE first creates a single bearer for connection to Internet, then it creates a single bearer (used for IMS signaling) for IMS/VoLTE and at some later point UE setsup a voice call and creates a voice bearer (as part of the IMS PDN Connection). So the Internet bearer, MME will give value 5 (this can be any value [5,12], IMS signaling bearer is given value 6 (again any value in the range [5,12] and not assigned to internet bearer) and value 7 to voice bearer. EBID values given to UE1 are independentent of EBID values given to UE2.

    Fantastic set of videos as I just posted comment for the GTP Primer video. One thing I will say with regards to the DHCP used to give out UE IP address at end of this video, while maybe that it part of the spec, that is NOT the way I see our Cisco customers do it, every instance I see is the PGW's Create Session Response giving out the UE IP address (IPv4 and/or IPv6).

    Ive been supporting LTE for Cisco since its inception and trained many people on GTP concepts, but I will no longer do such explanations as yours trumps anything that I have done especially with the assistance of your slides, and so will be referring requests for knowledge in this area, including LTE call setups with your other videos, to your series of videos. Absolutely fantastic, and I dont give out compliments easily.

    1 Resource block have 12 subcarriers 7 symbols and 84 resource elements right? if there are 6 PRB's then why resource elements are 72? I know right there are 72 RE in 6 PRB's but I want to know how? I'm confused somewhere.

    • @IrfanAli-nz7mb
      @IrfanAli-nz7mb Год назад

      Each PRB has 12 subcarriers. So, in the *frequency domain* (y-axis), there are 12*6=72 subcarriers, and hence 72 resource elements. there are 84 resrouce elements, as there are 7 symbols (x-axis), so 12*7 = 84.

    Hi Irfan, Thanks for this wonderful tutorial. One Question, Do gateways(PGW/SGW) also open socket ports for each tunnel Id or is it just a logical channel to segregate different users?

    • @IrfanAli-nz7mb
      @IrfanAli-nz7mb Год назад

      There is one UDP socket (per PGW-SGW) open and multiple TEIDs are send on that socket.Implementations may have multiple UDP sockets open for sending, with a different port number. But on each socket multiple TEIDs can be sent. The destination port number for GTP-U has to be 2152.

    Do I understand correctly that it is just visualization/simplification that the whole resource block is carrying either RRC or data? As you said in your video about protocols, I think that MAC can multiplex different channels, thus one resource block can have a mix of RRC bearers and data bearers. Is that correct or am I missing something?

    • @IrfanAli-nz7mb
      @IrfanAli-nz7mb Год назад

      A resource block can be one of three: (i) SIB (SI-RNTI), (ii) Paging (P-RNTI), or (iii) UE-specific (C-RNTI). For (iii), the MAC can multiplex RRC message and data bearer, (and MAC control elements) destined to that specific UE. This is my understanding. So the figure is a simplification when it comes to UE-specific message. Good point.
