John Williams discusses his Concerto for Harp and Orchestra - 'On Willows and Birches'
I get Williams left the series, but I wish that general motifs and themes weren't ditched as a result. There were so many magnificent tracks that just disappeared from the franchise. Goblet to Hallows in terms of music just had no character once Williams wasn't involved anymore. It's not to say those scores are bad (though personally I really dislike Goblet's) but I just didn't have the vibes with them as as I did with those first three.
What happens when you put a great writer, a great musician and a great filmmaker together .
He made magic
The greatest composer of our time.
Could somebody please tell me where I could find the original version of this interview? I'd love to see the whole thing.
What if John Williams can use Hedwig's theme for cheetah the hero Nathan the wizard and Dylan berger the wizard who battle and defeat evil dark green iguana and evil dark bearded orange lizard final creepy story coming out on May 1st on my final year I'm turning 21 years old next year
He wrote that theme on the side? Are you kidding me? :D :D :D :D: D :D That thing is the most iconic sound of my childhood :D
I still remember hearing it watching the sorcerer's stone in theater
John Williams is one of the greatest musical composers of all time ranked number one between Ennio Morricone and Howard Shore
Adventurist wonderful
If there's no magic in real life, how do you explain the scores of Superman, the Star Wars films, the Indiana Jones films, E.T., Jurassic Park, Home Alone, and, of course, this?
I love John Williams and his work on Jaws, Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Superman, Indiana Jones, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Home Alone, Jurassic Park, and Harry Potter. 🦈🌌🛸🦸♂️👽🏠🦖🪄
Someone knows where to get the entire interview?
John Williams is a so terrible composer. He should learn
I hear adrenochrome in it
Illuminati???
I know John Williams isn't the only composer to work on the movies, but it's fair to say that his tracks are the most famous ones from the series, in particular Hedwig's theme.
3:49 john saying phhohum
and doing the hand thing
God, James Levine is (was) a phony. Clearly he couldn't give less than a hoot about this piece, but he's on camera, and he's sitting next to the famed John Williams, so he has to say "beautiful piece." What a disingenuous twerp. Musicians don't say these things in the middle of a detailed rehearsal. This is how he became the beloved "Jimmy" until the truth was made public: telling singers and musicians what they wanted to hear with a big, stupid grin, all the while hiding one of the most insidious souls any musician has ever possessed.
3:58 it does if you know the repertoire
Lillymon Give me an example of a harp piece it sounds most like.
Fancy seeing you here JJay, fancy yourself a Williams concerto? They’re quite wonderful aren’t they?
John Williams is a musical composer genius who works for the Boston Pops Orchestra the man knows music everything from Star Wars to Superman to Harry Potter the man has talent and I may not be named and all the movies he's done cuz I can barely remember them all those the most common ones I can remember sat he's done many other extraordinary pieces of music you might not have realized other stuff I probably don't know about that sent the depth of his immense talent in music skill and ability I wish I had that much skill in one pinky I'm just an idiot who can appreciate good music and a set of things is is the true or things and that is adult mentally inferior to of child at 3 sad and true
To bad the HP series didn’t have more continuity
So......let' be clear.......THIS MAN BASICALLY WROTE HARRY POTTER'S WORLD FAMOUS THEME FOR THE TRAILER ?! GOD DAMMIT! If you seek one proof that this guy is a genius there it is!!
Though other composers have worked on these movies, it's Williams that created the most iconic tracks and I'm glad they kept using them now and then in some of the later movies. Especially for the very last shot of adult Harry watching his kids leave for Hogwarts. It's perfect.
In some ways John Williams made Harry Potter
yess really
He's made every film he's scored 😉
That's a fair comment. I find it a little sad that people take the music so much for granted. The movies wouldn't be anything close to what they are without the music.
ikr @@GAMLAPATTE
It's funny that the Hurry Potter theme somewhat sounds so... british as it supposed to be i guess, and yet it was written by Williams! But it's a memorable score, so who else could have writen it?! Very few composers today merely come close to Williams' genius.
Omg,i have to learn those beautiful scales the harp does .
It ain't deleted sounds I here it just fine
I love John Willliams but let us not forget the late, great JOHN BARRY. He too created some of the most iconic and identifiable film scores in history. His score for 'Out of Africa' was simply stunning.
John Williams is a legend
Is that Bruce Fowler?
James Levine I think
@@MrRbjunior83 Yes, you’re right. 😊
Out of the many composers out there, only 3 can be considered HALF as good as John Williams. Those are Jerry Goldsmith, Leonard Bernstein and Ennio Morricone.
First 2 films really stood out from the others. Chris Columbus style combined with John Williams music was very unique. You could tell the style had changed from the 3rd one
+Busher50 Yeah I noticed a difference in the third film too, I still liked it though. It's still a great score. Each film got worse after that in my opinion, and the scores weren't as good since John Williams didn't compose the rest of the films.
+DisneyCroft 1996 I agree. The first two films, and their scores are the best, but the 3rd film and its score were still good. The movies got worse after that in my opinion, they're okay, but I kinda lost interest after the first 3.
I thougt John Williams composed the music in the third? It was the fourth film that they dropped him off
Busher50 exactly what I thought
@ricardo9696 Idk, I think Alfonso Cuaron's made the franchise's style much better. PoA is amazing. The first two are great and nostalgic but PoA felt like a cinematic experience.
Howard Shore beats this in lord of the rings
sanch Sanchayan actually no. this is better, john did better and please LOTR purist fans please stop make a fool of yourselves, they always get so insecure about HP or star wars. GROW UP.
yea yea ,, we understand .. LOTR beats SW both in quality and other measures . Probably the only trilogy whose score got recognized by the academy of 2 films in the series .. not SW or HP. Forget about HP neither its film quality nor the score stands up to anything in terms of artistic ability
I dont really do oscars. its rich white old men giving out awards. there is so much politics and corruption at that awards, so no thanks, I dont need a shallow Hollywood award to make my case or prove my point. all three are great to me and I disagree on the scores in HP because a window to the past by john William for HP 3 is one of the best score themes ever. its my favorite theme ever from a fantasy film, that score was wonderfully made and high in artistic credibility. this is one of the reasons why people viewed HP 3 as a game changer for the series and I believe the score was nominated for best original score at the oscars, not that it matters to me. I dont like the main SW score all that much the best score from star wars ins across the stars from episode 2 which was created by john williams as well.most of john william film scores are as good as the score from LOTR , some even better. Jurassic park anyone?
jurassic park sounds good . artistically shallow . star wars has depth . still no depth as lotr .. the only other score to have that depth is morricone's dollars and nino rota's godfather 1 & 2 .. williams' schindlers' list , memoirs of geisha is far better than hp
not to me. as the whole far better than HP is no really true in the sense of score it comes from LOTR fans having a hisotry for just be insecure about the HP series. sad but true
NO false... NO ONE can compare to John Williams as composer. MARK MY WORDS NO ONE. John Williams stopped doing the soundtrack for Harry Potter and it's funny actually... the movies themselves started to go down the toilet aswell. It's as if John Williams had put like 80% of the atmosphere and magic into Harry Potter and it was just gone after he didn't do it anymore.
At least Patrick Doyle did his thing beautifully for movie 4, and Alexandre Desplat tried his absolute best for the last two.
i didnr even knoe john williams did harry potter if anybody can do dark and eeire its john williams
I absolutely agree; Lotr music is not as well crafted as Star Wars and Harry Potter music. I also know what you mean about the films going down hill when John Williams left.
Thomas Donnelly Music Thank you for agreeing. I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling that way!
+lightsidemaster You should check out my profile, I made a bunch of videos with John Williams music put into all the other Harry Potter movies :D
Where the sounds
Hans Zimmer or (my favourite) James Newton Howard.
Kalle Balle i don t live james newton howard's scores it is too Zimmer-like and flat ... well before Hans zimmer came james was good ..
Without sound, there is no raiders of the lost ark.
Mute
Ennio morricone perhaps?
muted? this is why people bootleg the whole album. I just wanted to hear it and have been thinking of buying his whole catalog if the is one. JW is awesome. But no, I get to stare in silence. ...while I fire up my bittorrent.
muted soundrack?? youd better delete whole stream ignorants... you gotta be fucgink kidding... chyba was pojeblo...
Listen to Jane Eyre, War of the Worlds, Images, The eiger Sanction and you will see that Williams is one of the most versatile composer. By the way, Star Wars and Harry Potter don't look the same at all. The differences between the first and the third Harry Potter are huges, it seems like another saga. And each Star Wars has particular sound, and new themes, you can easily say from which film a piece is if you do not know it, because the style is completely different.
John Williams is a genius, but all of his music sounds the same, just listen to Harry Potter/Star Wars/Home alone - it sounds the same. That's why I'm more in love with Hans Zimmer. He has such a big spectrum by comparison. Just listen to the difference between Inception and Pirates of the Caribbean, or Madagascar. He always makes something new and exciting.
You're joking right? Hans Zimmer self-plagiarises all the time. Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean soundtracks are practically interchangeable.
