I put mine in several days ago, buried them, should i lift them or just try to dig around them?
If it was just a few days ago, if it were me, I'd lift them up (gently!) and settle them back in at a higher level. Water them in, too.
@@TheUpBeetGardener thank you
just beautiful…. My aunt has one that’s like twenty something feet tall and I always forget about it until it blooms.
Pretty special... that's a tall one! Does it bloom fully every year?
@@TheUpBeetGardener I’m not sure, we live an hour away from each other. The tree is right in her patio area close to the house. I wish I knew how to attach a photo to this comment because it is stunningly beautiful. I do have a short video of it on my channel .

Oh, hey. You are most welcome. Do you have bumblebees around? Have a great rest of your week.
That does look like good compost!
Thanks -- I just mixed it today with some ocean-shredded kelp and leaf mulch and placed around the garden for a summer fee. Happy gardening and thank you for your comment.

I haven't been able to find blueberries in the wild. Maybe they don't grow in New York? I got a lot of wine berries and blueberries this week. Also last month I got a lot of mulberries and service berries. I still don't know what a wild blueberry plant looks like in person.
It's in the note of Bee.
OMG! How fun is that! I'm so tuned to their tone while in the garden, I know exactly who's making that buzz.
That is really cool
Thanks! The wind is blowing its yellow blossoms all over the garden right now… life in Alaska 🤪

She’s beautiful
Yes, she's a sweetie. Looks funny in the winter though, when she wears snow-hats! Have a great rest of your day.
Idk about dental work, we need to plant a couple seeds in there with all that steam and humidity🤣
Tropical seeds!!! 🤣
Really nice video, a lot of really good tips.. I do hot compost, after flipping multiple times, I stop flipping when the compost does not go above ambient temperatures. I then do a final flip and add small amounts of partially decomposed leaves or local forest floor litter to add more of a fungal component to the finished compost An important element of making a high quality compost is to let it rest. For potting mixes and teas at least 4 months, as a soil amendment at least a month or two. I go a step further and check the compost under the microscope, I know exactly how much biology I am adding to my soil. Stay Well!!!
I stopped turning compost when it reaches ambient temperature as well, sometimes before. I like the idea of adding bits of leaves or what we call Alder duff, the small bits of soil plus leaf mold that collects underneath the alder trees. My best compost batches are the ones that I just let sit for a while. I guess it’s like making good wine or sourdough. Rest is best. Thank you for your comments, as I enjoy connecting with compost “chefs” Have a great rest of your week. Happy gardening from Kodiak, Alaska.
Beautiful!❤❤❤
Thanks, I’m hoping to see more bumblebees 🐝 this year
Wouldn't it still be too cold?
Nope. Spinach survives the winter cold. Very hardy plant. Remember the roots are established in the fall... that's the secret.

Do you think grounds should be fermented?
I don’t think 🤔 it’s necessary. Just added work 😉
I hate compost bins. One long pile you turn from one end of the room to the other. Add one side, remove from the other. Guaranteed even mix. Better when done on bare ground so worms can get in and oxygenate it.
I’d love to be able to have that kind of space, alas I do the best I can on a tiny plot of land 😊
What potting soil would you recommend?
I use a good quality potting soil as a base. No chemical additives, microbial fungus good. I mix in some compost, about one part compost to three or four parts potting soil. And then I also feed my plants with liquid comfrey, and other liquid organic fertilizers that I make.
Thankyou...great info❤
You are most welcome Carol. ❤️
I'll try and find that
🥰🥰🥰
How did it work? Is the DE repelling the sluggies?
Actually, yes. I had to apply it 2 more times because I'd either accidentally brush it away, or I got a little too aggressive withe the watering can! Have you tried it?
Thank you for sharing.
Oh, thank you. I hope the mini, 2-minute podcast was helpful. What topics would you like me to cover in the future? Have a great rest of your week!
I for real just did this 2 hours ago SO I still have time to move them lmao
Yup you still have time. Water them in after you adjust them. Give ‘em good energy, too 🥰
I love your videos🥰
It's far more simple than that: Does it resemble what went in? If the answer is no then it's ready. It took me a lot less than 35yrs to come to that conclusion.
Yes, it might be that I'm a slow learner! 😆
Not necessarily, it can also be the amount of clay you have in the soil. If there is too much clay, adding organic matter won't resolve it. Your soil should be balanced in 3 equal parts, clay, sand, and organic matter. To find out what you have, take a large glass jar with a lid, fill it a quarter way full with your soil, and then fill the rest of the way with water. Close the jar, shake it up for 3 minutes, and then leave undisturbed for a week or 2. The contents will separate into 3 parts, clay at the bottom, sand in the middle, and organic matter on top. For there, you can determine whether to add more or less of what is required for what you are going, and also different plants like different soil gradients. For example, a Dragon fruit cactus loves sandy soil, lots of sun, and watered like a normal plant. Spinach loves clay soil, hot climate water lightly daily, and shade.
Good ideas. I’ve never done the jar test but I’ll give it a go. Thanks!!! 🙏🏼
Thank you for filming the actual turning technique you use. People describe it, and I can read about turning, but seeing you do it and how you spray a little water was very helpful. My compost is about six weeks old. It looks chunky, but smells earthy. I planted five radish seeds in a little container of the compost, and THEY ALL SPROUTED and are growing. However, I can still see recognizable leaves. Should I give it a few more weeks to work, or do you think it is ready to use? Rita
You can set it aside Rita and let it “season” for a few weeks, or just use it. Sometimes I let my last couple batches of the fall just mellow out and season over the winter. But if you have uses for your compost now, go ahead and use it!
So nice of you to water your friend’s garden🙏
Well, he does a lot for us... it's a neighbor thing.
I do not live in your state but I do have 2 cabbage plants and I suffer with cabbage worms and this other spiky worm and they are on my broccoli plant to I did not out a row cover and I regret it so much
Try using tulle fabric to cover. I get the 108 inch width to stretch over my mini hoops. A lot cheaper too.
@@TheUpBeetGardener ok thanks I think they are ready to harvest so 😋

Your so smart you have helped me a lot and I just found a watermelon 🍉 in my watermelon plant that I never saw before just yesterday lol it’s like 8 inches lol

@@TheUpBeetGardener yeah
Lovely video! I just started my own compost piles and was wondering when and if it's safe to use.
Oh, good. I'm glad it helped. Check out the videos in the description -- especially the one about turning your compost -- it's sooooo important for keeping your compost working and not turning into a stinky, chunky mess!
2nd year trying to grow onions. Ice had to pull up several that have rotted. Maybe this is what I'm doing wrong. I'm assuming now that the same applies to onions sets?
Yes, onion sets, too. As for rotted onion plants, double check to make sure it's not due to fungus or larvae. Also, onions prefer a well-draining soil I hope this helps. Cheers!
I love coquis !!! When they sing, the sound make me feel relax. At night is very relax sound to sleep.
They do make a sweet song 'tis true!
That's a spectacular garden
Thank you kindly. A lot of work -- it started as a gravel pad!
Mine is a rolling composter
In that case, don't overdo the water, especially if the ingredients are already wet, like grass clippings. Still, check it often.
Dang this helps to WOW the vid you have with the onions was so good I am fixing both I fixed the onions but how much water do I put in
Ahhh, the compost should be damp, but not soggy. Like a rung out dish rag. Remember, the water is used up, so you need to check. If it's a tumbler, then you might not need to add much water.
@@TheUpBeetGardener ok 😊 thank you
Dang I did not know this thank you I will go fix it lol
Good to know... keep me posted, OK?
