* Correction. Corolla ended up being the best selling car of all time *
There is a racing series for these Fiestas here in Ireland. Every year, they wrap up the season with a six-hour endurance race with around 25-30 of these Fiestas entered. It is wonderful fun and relatively inexpensive (as motorsport goes). It's amazing to see cars of that age hammering around a race-track for six hours and (mostly) surviving the experience.
30 years later and we still talking about electric cars
Are you serious. This var was crap. The design was good, but the reliability was terrible
Bloody awful looking blobs, as was the fugly Stilo that replaced it!
Saw one of these still on the road when I was in the UK in 2024 .
The ugliest Aston ever. Aged terribly
Nice yo see those reviews... Those Corollas still good nowadays...
Overtake on the left at EVERY possible opportunity. If you're overtaken on the inside - IT'S YOUR FAULT - YOU should be in that lane, shouldn't you?
Japanese car are immortal!
I had this Corolla 1.6 lit as a station wagon bought in 1992. My first new car! It lasted 15 years and was the most reliable, very cheap to run, and lots of space. Overtaking on the highways had to be planned. It was very fuel efficient too. Changed the headlight bulb after 7 years, battery after eight years, rusted exhaust after 10 years, rusted front brake disc after 10 years, rebuilt alternator after 12 years. My daughter learnt to drive in it. Sold the car after 15 years, still running well but very rusty. It had become a family member. It was older than my son and I jokingly told him to show respect to that car.
We have kept 4 different generations of Corolla since the last 44 years. The first was 1981, second was 1986 which we kept for 14 years, legendary model... than 2011 which we kept for 11 years & now a 2022.... Durable it is... no doubt.... large market here in Pakistan for this car, easy maintenance.
Boring but fantastic
I Bought two Corolla GTI 16s, I took a test drive and said to the man in the shop. I want this car. I thought- it was a factory special but no they were all like that. It was FAST, Lighjt 120 BHP 7 second 0-60 LOUD. Revved to 7000 I rode fast motorbikes so I loved that. It would decimate a golf GTI. The Hotshot car of the time was the Audi Quatro, that just disappeared off the rearview mirror . The only tr'ouble I had was a Porche 911 in the bacdkr'oads in Sussex England. He picked up behind me. Was a goods safe driver, we slowed down and drifted gently through the villages then went bezerki on the backroads.
Looks like a child drew its idea of a BMW and got it all wrong
Bonjour Yes THE Renault 21 Manager…. Strange name BUT … « You drive a 21? » « oui (yes) a Manager » 😅 What a great name for the French Market… a Manager! 😂😂 I am French Bruno
The other cars look so old compared to the Corolla's.
I don’t ever remember seeing an Executive Corolla on British roads- I am in the country for a week or so typically once or twice a year. Even 25 years ago, can’t remember seeing any. They probably represented a small portion of the 19,000 Corollas Toyota hoped to sell but I bet a fair percentage of the ones they did sell are still roadworthy. I’ve just not seen one.
But where's the POWERRRR? Or the SPEEEED?
Turned out to be one of the most reliable cars in british motoring history and the corrola is the most sold car globally in history
Fake show actors
Clarkson was just tempted to say 'Japs'
A car for a person that doesn't really care about cars....
Narrated by Alan Partridge 🤓
The three tory boys always looked down on the poors who buy Toyota because the poor dont have thousands and thousands of pounds to keep a car running just to go to work. The tory boys don't need to think about money.
I have owned and driven various Toyotas. The lack of repair bills very exciting and my current 2006 Avensis is called Elspeth.
The BEST corolla generation EVER made.
Now corolla is estate version or hatchback hard to get sedan in United Kingdom
Fascinating to see bits of Luton from back then, its basically unrecognisable now, I would of been 4 years old then.
I wouldn't have associated the Toyota Corolla with Adam and the Ants and I am sure they wouldn't be thrilled by it. Jezza putting in some mild snipes here but nothing like what he would have in more recent years.....old Top Gear used to play nice...usually.
Yea commenter on here a few of the old corrollas are still smoking around and their not worth much tho in uk about £500 for a good one...spares are rare now
Escort would have rotted through by now
Of course it handled well: Toyota was using Chris Amon to do their suspension tuning/development back then. A nice retirement gig for the former Formula 1 driver.
One airbag. The start of something new. 🙂
This makes me feel old. I remeber as a teenager seeing this episode for the first time and loving that car. It sucks to get old
I had a Corolla, next generation. Once got me from Brighton to Dover in one hour. Averaged just under 100mph. Never let me down, never liked it.
Brilliant car. I have a 1994, hatch, 1.8, 7A-FE, 5 speed. Just maintain as per schedule and drive. Automotive engineering at its best.
745Nm of torque, that is still a huge figure even today, 32 years ago it was out of this world. I love the fact it still wears all is thermocouples from testing.
"it's a very capable all-rounder" That's all you need. That sells.
Had a saloon 1.6 CD bullet proof
Toyota cars are built to last forever
Two years ago I bought a 2005 Corolla. It felt as tight as a new car and it just felt so solid. It was as quiet as a church mouse and as reliable as time. Comfortable too. Was it sporty? Not really but that was good because it made me just want to cruise. It's not and exciter, it's a relaxer. Great car!
The first car i bought in my life is a corolla. Trading it in for a rav4 this month. Mininum service payment and everything works all the time. Once i hit the jackpot i will be buying a lexus haha.
Glad we never got that hideous hatch version in the states
You wouldn't have had to buy one you know.
@Oisac-y9u still its offensive
@@DankSi In your opinion but not mine. It could be described as bland but it's hardly offensive.
Yeah, driving a rental Camry from New York to Memphis was the most boring driving experience I have ever had. It’s just a brown bag with wheels. Definitely not a car for people who like to drive. It got me there, safely, but I would never do that again. Life is too short
Too short for what?
God, i miss these cars. Now it´s electric, electric, hybrid, electric........... What happend??
Before the much needed HGV speed limiters.
16 valve affair, what what
I have one...respect it or die
Clarkson should check on this Corollas now
