I eat a bit prior to turning in so my digestive system generates warmth and I pee in a bottle so I don;t have to leave the tent in the cold. And a hot water botle you can get at pharmacies, etc. and are designed to not leak like some water bottles will do.

The biggest Con for me is that the camera does not have a Neutral Density filter built into it. When videoing it is so convenient to be able to flick a built in ND filter on. With this camera you have to start screwing them onto the lens, to the correct intensity before you can get your shot. Very inconvenient and time consuming.

The only problems with this camera is the defective top zoom lever which became unresponsive and useless, good it has the other lever on the barrel. Second, very very slow autofocus in video, especially on moving objects. Otherwise, this camera is a proof that you can technically make excellent, almost ultimate quality 4K video on a 1/2,3 inch 12 megapixel sensor. Today we have much bigger sensors, tons of megapixels, tiny cameras (action cams in first place and also better phones...) and powerful chips but the video quality is downgraded and lowered and this is obviously made by purpose.

Do you find that sleeping bags suited for winter weather in the UK, that you can fit into the bottom of your pack, necessarily have to be pricey and have something like down in it? It seems to me that if you want a bag that packs itself realistically small on a budget, your only option is a 2 season.

Not an ultralight, for sure. However, if you are in this tent in a rainstorm, and it's properly set up and staked down, you will be dry. It stands up well in windy conditions, too.

Thanks for the good review. I just got one of these because I already have a Marmot EOS 1 tent that I've had for many years. I have been really impressed with the quality and its ability to handle heavy rain.. However, it is a bit small and can get claustrophobic so I got the Tungsten 1 UL which is a decent size. I haven't used it yet but after setting it up and inspecting it, the quality seems just as good as the EOS.

30 year RamX 15 owner here. Your canoe seems to be in good shape - the redder they are, the less time they’ve been left out in the sun. Simple mods: you can attach a small trolling motor by making or buying a side motor mount - with lithium ion batteries you can motor about for hours with a 25 lb. Battery. You can also put a low beach chair ahead of the middle thwart - just put it on a rubber pad so it doesn’t move. Enjoy!

I and my hiking buddies have had more than a dozen encounters with mountain lions and grizzlies. You need eyes on the back of your hats and facemasks that redirect lions, they can be detoured from the standard back attack and are triggered to attack if you run. You need bear spray and sizable full tang knives. Water treatment is necessary, at least a prefilter, a saturated iodine solution, a shinny metal canteen and a 365nm UV sterilizing light. In the event of a nuclear conflict the iodine detours the dangerous untake of radioactive Iodine 131. You may hide from radioactive fallout under bridges and large structures. Recharge is best if you have USB charging solar panels.

When an a payment in our building was on fire I grabbed mine and ran out. First family out of the block. Some choice to stay in as they couldn’t see the danger. So include common sense to.

DWR is solely for stopping the outer fabric from soaking. If it's gore-tex or another membrane it will always be waterproof. DWR is needed so the gore-tex can breath and allow your body vapour to pass through the gore-tex membrane and the outer fabric. So back to your video , you mentioned there are parts that are soaking. Soaking isn't good especially with that small amount of water. It means the DWR hasn't mixed well in the washing or maybe enough wasn't used, who knows.

No, no NO! NEVER wash your waterproof garments in anything but a detergent specifically made for waterproof garments, like Granger or NikWax. Will it be as clean as Tide or the like, NO! But it will ensure your waterproofing did not get washed off either.

This is my 3rd Lumix FZ300, gave 2 of them to friends after using them a lot. As a professional photographer for 45 years, I took this camera on trips as it weight only 450grammes, and is compact enough, even did professional jobs twice with it. The lens is good even at 600 m/m focal, I made portraits of people hiding being pillards "using the orientable viewer which moves in every direction" in markets in Asia and many other places and you can see the pores of the skin of the faces. When you know about manual photography it is easy to use and do what ever you want. Great camera for action shot, pan and tricks, on fully automatic modes, intelligent auto and program mode. Batteries; I have 2 batteries and charge them "with the regular charger which comes with the camera" on usb outlets "getting commun everywhere" or 120/220 volts outlets. I also charge them with and external portable charger which I also use for my phone. Splash and dust fantastic as you do not have to change lenses which always bring dust on the sensor, this is a Big PLUS. Stabilisation is also very good. I won't talk about video as I like still photography. I never used the little flash incorporated in the top of the view finder. After heavy usage not one of the 3 camera I did own let me down after many years of intense shooting. More Pro than con for sure. I am thinking about buying an other one before they won't be available and for a very decent price.

These do come with a USB charger now. I had a Canon G10, but was never happy with it, so just got the uk 330 version and the reason for this was 3 fold. 1 f2.8 though the whole range 2 sensible 600mm lens, longer affects the camera usability 3 water and dust proof, VERY few have this and a must for travel. This is ideal for holidays as you everything in one package with the advantage of adding filters. For me the largest blow up so far is a 40cm2 which is ok with the small sensor. For the cost of the camera it is a very good general camera.

Those cons where not very depressing. I only have experience of the Panasonic Lumix dmc fz72. But also a super zoom camera (60 x). I don't know if the FZ300 has the same issues but the biggest cons with the FZ72 is 1. The noisy image stabilazor when recording movies. I had to turn it off because it was so destructive. 2. Pressing the rear dial stopped working after a couple of years. A typical problem for some Lumix models. Not sure if that's the issue with the FZ 300. The button on the rear dial controls settings for all the M, A, S and P modes. So quite crucial. Even though this camera is quite old it's still around on the market. But it seems that the manufacturing of bridge cameras in general last couple of years have gone down. Many of the older super zooms are not available anymore. But the FZ300 still is. I have been looking at the Canon SX70 HS with it's 20 MP sensor, but after all the reviews on the FZ300 I am starting to lean towards getting one of these. Thanks a lot for the great review.

My buddy has one with the same pushed up seat issue. We had a huge snowfall one year, and it bent the bottom rail with it stored bottom up. It’s the canoe he stashes way out in the area we fish, so we don’t have to do the 6 hour portage every time. Pretty much indestructible, and not out a lot of coin if some a-hole steals it. Lol If they want to do the amount of work to get it out of there, then they deserve it.
