i heard the differences. maple neck/fret board has a brighter sound as it should. the ebony fret board is a darker sound for sure.

It's a great pedal , I own one . Your approach like you presented wasn't bad , but I'd like to see you try it in front as a lowcut and mid boost maybe cut some highs as well . The way I use it in my setup is like a mid cut and I boost lows and highs jack the kids on the amp and leave bass down a bit and resonance like a mark series mesa amp

Does this remove the noise from the actual amp itself. My amp is noisy on high gain without pedals

Confusing how pedaloutput goes to the fx return and the fx send goes to pedal return. Ifi was a man with no directions i would've connected the fx send to the pedal send and fx return to the pedal return

No, you cannot "overuse" the SD-1, let's just get that straight first.

Also, the Jim Root strat has a mahogany body, so, the woods are closer than if you had an alder bodied strat, particularly with the tremolo system. That's a LOT of wood gone around the bridge.

EMG 81s have a character that you can't get around - you either dig what it does, or you're stuck with something that you don't want. This may be the 'tonewoods don't matter' source, or, more likely, that's a mantra by guys who put $300 into a $200 guitar and 'can't tell the difference.' Some 'can't tell the difference' between a Mercedes and a Kia with the leather package, either, and gods bless 'em. They're perfect for thrash of course and other genres - even Dopethrone uses them, and you wouldn't necessarily guess that by their sound. I find them polarizing - if I'm going full out, great, but if I'm doing Sabbath or any classic rock, nope. Solution: Fluence Moderns. Not only do you get the Passive voicing, but the 81 voicing is just better at not sounding wrong or out of place. I sometimes go into a different musical mode and forget I'm using the 'wrong' voicing with them.

In 2024 we have the Joyo Agos, which is a Precision Drive clone, for less than the SD1. The SD1 IS a cuh-lassic, no doubt - but, it's still made the same old way, with the same issues as the original. If you were going to pay the top dollar price for the PD, I'd A/B it with the SD1 Waza Craft, which fixes the old version's issues and has the mod mode. d In theory one could very easily mod the PD for SD1 type overdrive, since it's Tube Screamer based, best of both worlds there.

Never been a mesa fan much, but the Rectifier's mushiness & "scoop" sounds more alive with both passive & active pickups. The Soldano was alright, 5150 sounded super compressed. I don't think the SLO or 5150 need a boost to sound good/better/tighter, but that's my opinion. They sound better without any boost just left on their own.

They are all great. I first tried a Soldano in Guitar Center in the early '90s and it was just awesome. My wife made me sell my rack mount Mesa Dual Rectifier from the early'90s. I don't play live. I picked up a Bugera Tri-Rec cheap remake but it sounds really good. I still want the Soldano. All these amps are extremely expensive there are tons of IRs but having the real deal is just a better experience in my opinion.

The Hercules should have won on price as well even with the extra modules. It's 40-50% RRP cheaper depending on what country you are in.

Those of you wonder why a monster 5150 sounds so funny and needs a boost is because he's playing a 100 watt hi gain amp with the volume all the way down....

I got the 1st ever made Era series butterscotch guitar....I'm more of a country guitar/,classic rock player so I love my single coil pickups! Either way LSL did a great job on these guitars....I've giggled it about half a dozen times already and it's a solid guitar🤘🤘

I'm late to the party, but.. I've been using 4 cable method for some time and last night I noticed that engaging the noise gate in the fx loop changes the sound - removes some treble, cuts off a bit of the dynamics. Any takers on how to solve it? Playing with the knobs on Sentry makes little difference, as soon as it's engaged it colors the sound. It doesn't sound bad, maybe I can compensate on the amp EQ somehow, but it's weird, isn't it? Or is it just inherently the way all noise gates behave in the fx loop? I'd appreciate some help on this one.

Out of curiosity, what's the scale length on that PRS ?

Definitely not worth the premium price when you track one of these down as I have recently. I don't think it's any great shakes over many other distortion/OD pedals out there. Maybe I just don't have that ear to distinguish why this is better. That EVH should but putting out what you need anyway. Thanks for the very good demo!
