Great comparison, great riffs too! They've updated both within the year, the V1.5 Obsidian got most of the good voicing from the Granophyre now, very similar upper mids to this video. Mine just got built and I fired it up this morning. I came on the 'Tube to remember the old Obsidian since I sold my V1 6 mos ago. I would hazard to say you'd be hard pressed to tell the diff between the new Grano and Obsidian versions on a vid these days, the difference is there's uber more detail in the Obsidian if you want, but now you can dial it scratchy like many of us non-perfectionist (cough*sloppy*) players prefer! (which is how the Grano always has been=and that's a good thing for most 🤙)

So basicly your guitar goes in to input and send to input amp and between Send and input amp you put your tuner?

Thanks for the direct explanation. The site map was a huge help and made it easy to understand. Just got the Sentry and was a little on the fence about its results, but after following this it works perfect and couldn't be happier. Originally was looking at the Revv G8 and I'm sure it works well also (also has the effects loop feature) but saved a good chunk of cash on the Sentry and with the 4 cable method I can set it and it works for high gain and clean without having to change settings. . . Love it!

i liked it after you tweaked the bass frequency only. 7:02 Also you do not play it enough between, while you are tweaking, sort of prejudicely moving the knob.

I assume you’re using wildly high output active pickups which are clipping the arrows input. It’s best use is tightening up thicker distortion tones. Sounds great going through my Orange OR, even with a Duncan custom, but again a 7 string with active pups into a modern hi gainer is just not it’s forte.

Always loved my JC in built Chorus and the reverb. So never needed to add anymore.

SD-1 makes the sound a bit warmer. I do believe Fortin 33 starts to shine in lower tunings, something like F or E. Thanks for the demo and some cool riffs!

I don’t own a Mesa. However, I find its particular style bulkiness incredible in the isolated ‘round’. The 5150’s clang would probably be very useful for a mix.

I've always struggled with getting high gain tones out of classic crunchy amps so I'm now looking at the Mesa mk IV and the Peavey 6505 or similar... So, what's the point of using a boost with such amps? Shouldn't they have enough gain already? If it's just to tighten the bass wouldn't be much smarter using an eq in front or even better in the loop (with the bass pot on the amp very low)?

In my experience, there's less of a difference than passive pickups, but a difference nonetheless.

I've watched this video many times honestly prefer the SLO for cleans I am a tube nerd and mega audiophile so I am extremely biased. Soldano sounded rounder and fuller. jc120 was too sweet and bright. at times could sound a bit tinny

This is a cool channel which i did not know before seeing your Dimebag Collection video. I am jealous, believe me.. Both pedals sound pretty similar using it as a booster, even for guitar nerds it is very hard, if not almost impossible to tell which pedal is on. But shootout contest videos prove one thing: It does not really matter, which one of them you actually use.

The Behringer tube overdrive TO-100 and the TS9 sound exactly the same, it is impossible to hear any difference in a blind test. Get one of those, if you find it. I did, and I could not be happier with the results. I use it as a booster in front of a Randall Rg80ES. I think it even looks pretty good, and there is nothing to complain about , besides it is not that easy to change batteries. I can live with that. There is of course nothing wrong with the original pedal, but market prices for vintage TS9 Pedals are crazy. Even for the ugly TS10. That can easily be 30 times more as a Behringer clone would cost.

What about a fuzz pedal? Does it go before the sentry or first in chain after the send output of sentry?

I’ve only ever owned 2 dimebag guitars, a stringthrough dimeoflage and a stringthrough Razorback. Razorback was $100, the dimeoflage was free.

with this great tone, i confirmed the Headrush emulation it's so f*king amazing accurate .

The precision drive is great,but sd 1 more versatile with most high gain amp my opinion,i use until now to boosting mt2 and go to peavey cab its so tight!! Great comparing video thanks man 🙏🏽

My favorite is SLO, 5150, rectifier in general. This demo was heavy and deep chugs so the opposite of the list. The SLO is to articulate for modern chug. The 5150 in the middle with its barking mids. All my options but all 3 amps are 10s (SLO 11 haha) killer and would love to own any of them. Thank you.

I bought a Rane PE 17 parametric eq last night & need to dive into it today. (Shady) Guy accepted a LOW BALL offer and through in a Rane ME17B graphic eq also since I sourced my own PE17 (not cheap) power supply. Need to run it through ReEq so I can see what's all going on w the signal and that its working properly. Ran it after my mesa quad preamp and into mesa 5050 power amp but will try it out in the fx loop like i usually run my eq.

I wish the boss sd1 had a clone.

😂 I guess you didn't know this but the Dean ML is an original design from Dean ! Dean Z had a best friend named Matt Lynn and that's where the name of the ML came from !

It's so crazy seeing people running analog amps into impulses. I generally either go all analog or all digital.
